You guys know the drill here. Vote on whether the anime should stay or be removed from the anime relations list.

Remember, this isn't a popularity contest. Vote on whether YOU believe the anime has philosophical merits and don't just follow the crowd.

I don't see anything philosophical in both series.
The 7 Deadly Sins? Nah.

Right now, I can only leave a brief remark and a vote. I hope to leave a better argument later in the week, but for now I didn't want to miss the voting while I sorted out my argument (which never materialized for me on the FLCL decision). Also, my decision is directed more toward FMA than FMA: Brotherhood. I've not seen the latter, so I can't judge if anything which caught my in FMA eye carries over into the latter series.

I think FMA should remain on the list, as it does highlight some issues dealt with in political philosophy. To be more precise, it highlights many moral issues that confront anyone when dealing a society perched dangerously close to the Hobbesian state of nature: a war of man against man. FMA is one of those rare anime that I've seen that shows warfare rightfully in its awful damning light. It doesn't romanticize it; it doesn't devolve into heroic exploits; it doesn't have any clear "good guys" or "bad guys" - FMA just presents various aspects of human behavior in situations that often question exactly what humanity is and what the appropriate moral responses should be in any given situation.

These are only some remarks for now, and I hope to fill out my thoughts later. Nevertheless, I do think FMA presents some of the most pressing moral issues that any political philosopher has to confront when thinking about violent conflicts: how do we respond to them when it seems, upsetting though the thought may be, that morality alone might not settle the issue we're facing.
