| Brink pushes past her and kneels down to Cyn. "It's okay...I promise.." He looks back at what looks to be Alexi. "The real Alexi would never put down her very own brother. Let alone, tempt him with a knife. I'm going to assume YOU are the one who put this parasite in, that's how you infiltrated her body. So why don't you stop being a pussy and show yourself?" "Really? We love it in Valkan!" Jackson explains. |
| "The real pussy here is you Cody," Alexi says. "Second place has always been your forte, living in the shadow of your brother. What an utter disappointment you are. It's no wonder your parents think of you as a failure. But it is a wonder how anyone could love you." Alexi shrugs. Her eyes turn blood red, the color of Crux's. "Ah, looks like it's game over then eh?" She chuckles, but it is his voice that comes from Alexi's mouth. "But you've got one thing wrong stud. It wasn't me that gave her the parasite, but I am the one getting rid of it. I can't go and lose her now, not after I've come so far." "You mean there's more on Valkan!?" Zaine exclaims. |
| "Your words don't affect me, I know my faults. You're just spewing lies to him." Brink stands and turns towards him idly pointing at Cyn. "How are you getting rid of it exactly? Last time I heard, you had your crew get rid of something that never belonged to them. I'll be damned if I don't get it back for her." Brink gives a fiery glare as his icy blue eyes turn almost white. "Get up Cyn, this is our chance." "Of course. I really do hope you have the chance to visit, friends. It's very unique." Jackson smiles, biting into some chip like snack. |
| "You're too much Cody," Crux laughs, still not leaving Alexi's body. "What do you expect to do? Kill me? This is the best armor I could adorn." She motions to Cyn and says with Alexi's voice: "Don't bother with him stud. He's broken." "Oh yeah?" Zaine finishes his candy. "I'd love to see it. I want to see everything this galaxy has to offer!" |
| "Just let her go, you already took the damn amulet, now leave her be." Brink says. Jackson nods in agreement. "That's the spirit!" |
| "Oh that reminds me!" Alexi exclaims. "There's someone here I should visit. Thanks for reminding me stud~" Zaine laughs at his enthusiasm. "There's so much to see and do." His eyes flash gold for a few seconds, then return to their normal color. (Ow. What the hell?) He rubs his head. "Wonder if I'll get to see it all?" |
| "Cyn, come on. I can't be the only one to deal with this asshole!" Brink looks over. "I'm sure you will." Jackson assures him. Alan stares off into space. {HAAAA} |
| Cyn sits there on the floor, blankly looking at the blade of the dagger. It's tip rests over his chest, right where the shrapnel lies within him. "I told you stud," Alexi giggles. "He's broken. I'm surprised it's taken him this long actually. Maybe I should speed things up a bit?" She pulls out her gun, loading it. (Crux. Get out of my body! RIGHT NOW!) Zaine shakes his head. "You alright Alan?" |
| "GET OUT OF HER BODY, RIGHT NOW!" Brink says, stepping in front of Cyn. "Put it down, it's not worth it. We made a vow. How can you think about letting him win?" "Yes, of course my love. I just feel strange." Alan pouts. "My tummy hurts." |
| Alexi smiles at Brink, the gun pointing at him. "Cyn. It's your fault, and there's only one way to atone for it." Cyn shakes his head. "No? You selfish bastard! Even now you deny me retribution?" Cyn stands up, the dagger at his side. "I'm sorry." He pulls out three knives with his left hand and flings them at Alexi, running at her. "You would throw those at her!?" Alexi dodges two but takes the third in the leg. "Maybe you just ate too fast?" Zaine suggests. |
| Brink stares him down, in position next to Cyn. "Not even." He lets his hand slide up his sleeve and the sound of a button is heard. Suddenly Brink's forearm retracts into his body and comes back quickly as a barrel of a gun, the end glowing a faint red. "Your biggest weakness can always be disguised as a strength. A parasite like you needs a host. And we are going to save that host." Brink turns a nob on the outside of the arm-gun and small knives come through the end waiting to be launched. "I'm sure it's fine." Alan giggles. |
| "I know when I've outstayed by welcome," Crux says. A black shadow leaves Alexi's body, clearly Crux, just as Cyn runs up to her. Cyn catches Alexi's body as the shadow, laughing, skirts along the wall and out into the mess hall. Zaine watches the shadow zip by the table and to the bridge. "What the heck was that?" |
| "I'll follow, take care of her." Brink runs out and stands in front of the others now. "It's Crux." He says without explanation. "C-Crux!?" Alan stands up immediately infuriated. |
| "That explains it," Zaine mutters as he draws his sword. "Where are you!?" Crux's laughter can be heard throughout the mess hall. "I help you out and this is how you thank me? What an ungrateful bunch..." Cyn removes the knife from Alexi leg and applies pressure to the wound. Alexi winces. "Cyn..." "Hold still will you?" He doesn't meet her gaze. "Give me your gun so I can close this wound up." "I don't don't blame you Cyn," She hands him her gun, switching out the ammo. "Not once have I blamed you." Cyn remains silent while he patches up her leg. He ties some cloth around it to finish. "You'll have to do more later for this." He stands and leans against some cargo, looking at the doorway. |
| "You've helped with nothing!" Alan snaps sharply, looking around as she draws her sai. Jackson looks around, unsure what to do. |
| "Ungrateful and ignorant," Crux muses. "Come out and face us Crux!" Zaine looks around for the shadow. "Now why would I do that? I only came to help. It's your turn now Zaine." "Have you honor?" Zaine's eyes turn a brilliant gold. "Face me!" "Do not speak about honor Kavardan!" Crux hisses. "You know nothing of it." |
| "So who is it gonna be now, Crux? Who's ass do I have to kick?" Brink looks around, his back to the others. |
| "So you wanna play stud?" Crux coos. The shadow appears by the elevator, taking his shape. "I've got some time. Let's play." "Cyn," Alexi says. "It's not your fault." "Stop," Cyn says. "You aren't the one to blame for my parents deaths-" "Stop." "-and you haven't ruined my life." "Just stop!" Cyn yells. "No!" Alexi stands up and limps so she's in front of him. "Listen to me. I will never hate you. Never. You're important to me. Really important. So don't you dare think for one second that I would be better off without you because you're fucking wrong!" "Alexi..." Cyn stares at her, at the tears in her eyes. "You aren't allowed to leave me Cyn," She hugs him. "Not like that." "I'm sorry Alexi," he hugs her back. "I'm sorry. Forgive me." |
| Brink smirks, "You don't get to "play" this time." He aims his barrel at the shadow a shoots a few knives at him. |
| The knives go straight through him and sink into the wall. "You can't hurt me in this form." "He's not really here," Zaine says. "He's somewhere close by, but not on the ship." "Well done Zaine!" He claps. "Give the man a medal." Zaine takes a step forward. "Give me my pendant." Crux backs up. "You won't be getting that back until I'm done with it." "When will that be?" Zaine steps forward again, watching Crux back up for every step he takes. "What's the matter? Afraid to face me?" "As a matter of fact, yes." Crux says. "I'll have to play with you another time. You can thank me later!" The shadow fades, then disperses itself in a burst of wind. |
| Silence fills the room as he disappears. "What the fuck was that?" Brink says putting down his arm. |
| "He's toying with us," Zaine answers. He golden eyes observe Brink's arm. "He's done what he wanted and left, whatever it was." "Don't you dare blame yourself either," Alexi says, staring at Cyn. "If you do I won't forgive you." Cyn nods to her. "Right. I won't. But are you alright? Your leg..." "I'll be fine," Alexi replies. "This is nothing. Actually, I feel pretty good right now." |
| "Fuck. I hope Alexi is ok.." Brink says. |
| "What's wrong with her?" Zaine asks. "Is she hurt?" "Really?" Cyn watches her stand with her weight on her right leg. "We should get you to the med bay to take care of that leg." "It's weird, but I don't really feel it," Alexi says. "I'm just standing like this because I don't want to do any damage to it, but I honestly don't feel it that much. I feel great." |
| "Kind of.." Brink says as he rushes off. |
| "Brink! Where are you going?" Zaine follows after him. |
| Brink walks into the storage bay, "He's gone. Are you ok, Captain?" |
| "Hmm?" Alexi turns to Brink. "Oh, yeah. I'm feel great actually!" Zaine enters the storage bay after Brink. "Alexi? Cyn?" He looks them both over, assessing the damage. |
| "Thank the gods." Brink holds her tightly. "Oh.." He breaks away and brings his arm back to normal. Alan pokes in behind Zaine. "Woah.." |
| "Hey, hey," Alexi says. "It's alright now. But whoa, your arm!" "Cyn, you okay?" Zaine asks. Cyn nods. "Yeah, I'm okay." He looks at Zaine's gold eyes. (Gold? What's with that?) |
| "It's nothing, heh." Brink shrugs and gives a nervous smile. Alan remains quietly confused. |
| "Don't be embarrassed," Alexi says to Brink. "You'll have to show me it sometime." "You guys seem unharmed," Cyn says. Zaine nods. "That's good. Well, we should get out of the bay and back to the bridge." He sighs. "It's a good thing the crew wasn't on board..." Cyn mutters to himself. |
| "What happened??" Alan asks suddenly. |
| Alexi looks at Alan, and then gasps. "Oh! We never told you." "We didn't tell Zaine or Jackson either," Cyn says. "And I don't know how much Brink knows, but I think he's got it all." "Alright, everyone to the mess hall," Alexi commands. She herds them all towards the elevator. "We've got something we need to discuss." |
| "O-Okay?" Alan says as she moves to the mess hall. |
| Cyn and Alexi stand in front, while the rest of the group is seated before them. Alexi patches up her leg, while Cyn starts telling their story. Alexi offers information here and there, then takes over once she's finished with her leg. It takes them about two hours to tell, and neither leave anything out. Silence fills the room when they finish. "That's terrible," Zaine says. "But why is he still following you around? Why not just leave you alone?" "We don't know either," Cyn answers. "But he has since then." "He's just a sick bastard," Alexi says simply. |
| Brink interrupts "Sicker than we know." Alan sniffles a bit. "We will catch him, one day." |
| "Oh yeah?" Cyn says to Brink. "What do you mean?" "He doesn't need to be caught," Alexi says to Alan, "He needs to be destroyed." "Well, I agree with you," Zaine says. "There are no words to describe what he's done." |
| Brink ignores Cyn's question and turns to the others. "Agreed." |
| "Well, What's our next move then?" Zaine asks. "What do you mean?" Alexi looks confused. "He's nearby, so we should get him." "Oh no. I'm not going anywhere near him." "Yeah, but--" Zaine starts. "Besides, even if we did, I don't think we'd win. He's stronger than you think." |
| "He's on your new world!? What if he...?" Alan begins to say. |
| "What if he's here?" Cyn finishes Alan's thought. "What if he's on the new Kavarda?" "Where would he be?" Zaine asks. "This planet just got made. He's got no tie to set up a base here." "Maybe he's just here to observe?" Alexi offers. "Reconnaissance and such." "Whatever his reasons, they can't be good," Cyn says. "Nothing about him is." |
| "I hope he doesn't plan on destroying the place..." Alan says nervously. Brink nods in agreement. "We don't need our plans foiled at this rate." |
| "I doubt he would do that," Zaine says. "He's not wasteful." "You almost sound like you know him," Alexi comments. "I don't. I'm just making observation based on what you've told us." |
| "Hmm, so, what do we do?" Brink asks as he stands with others. |
| "We concentrate on building here," Alexi says. "There's plenty to do now that people are starting to decide where to build. It shouldn't take that long to set up the first town." "Once a permanent settlement is here," Cyn says. "We're free to go back to what we were doing." "The Federation has issued the crew and I a quote 'well-deserved' vacation for all the work we've done," Alexi explains. "They've also provided us with a hefty amount of gecca. So we should be fine to go anywhere and do whatever once the first town's done." |
| "Where to?" Brink asks. Alan takes the rest of her candy bar out of her satchel. "Idunno." She mumbles as she takes a bite. |
| "The crew's working on building here, so as long as they're okay with us leaving now..." Alexi thinks. "They're expecting it," Cyn chimes in. "Besides, they wanted this more than any of us." "Right," Alexi nods. She watches Alan eat her candy for a moment. "Why not Valkan?" |
| Jackson perks up, "That sounds wonderful, I'm sure you'll love it there!" Alan swallows her candy and gives a goofy smile. "I'm gonna get fat, hehe." |
| "So it's settled then?" Alexi asks. "We're going to Valkan!" Zaine exclaims. "That means more candy!" Alexi giggles at Zaine's enthusiasm. "There's candy in a lot of other places ya know." "Really!?" Cyn laughs and returns to the pilot chair on the bridge. (With the crew gone, I'm going to have to watch the ship's core and systems...) |
