There are examples of great characters or character development in every genre of anime, so I'm sure not everyone here has the same tastes. But I can enjoy almost any anime as long as no characters are unlikeable and one character is exceptional. So I'm sure recommendations from a club revolving around great characters would be useful.

I'll start! According to MAL, Kemono no Souja Erin is just outside the top 100 in ratings with a score of 8.48, but over a thousand shows are more popular than it. The fact that it's a bit longer than average at fifty episodes might play a part in this, which is a shame, because it's truly a wonderful story.

To avoid any spoilers, I'll just say that it follows the main character, an intelligent and curious girl named Erin, from a young age to adulthood and centers around her challenges as an animal lover in a world that subjugates magical beasts for use in war.

Maybe with your help we can get it into the top 100 in rating and top 1,000 in popularity. :3
And let me know what you think of it if you watch it!

I love hidden gems. I'll probably have time to start Kemono no Souja Erin next week, and I'll post some thoughts on it here. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Great to hear it skipped to the front of the queue! I would recommend taking it slowly though, because it is fifty episodes long and has, truth be told, a ridiculous amount of flashbacks. It's an interesting piece of work because it has a very real goal and resolution, but feels quite a bit like a slice-of-life too. Hopefully that doesn't turn anyone off - I enjoy SoL's.

Looks intriguing. I love it when a story follows a character from childhood to adulthood. 99% of the time it pays off well in the characterization aspect. There is one exception though...Shinsekai Yori. Ugh.

I enjoy all sorts of genres but SoL is definitely one of my favorites. I'm going on vacation for two weeks soon so I'll start it when I get back. Looking forward to it, thanks for the recommendation!
