Immediately after watching this episode, I felt nothing. It was unspectacular. But then something came to mind: what was Holmes's motive for using a toy gun? Why would he bother baffling his enemy with a trick? Why would he leave his friend's life on the line for a bluff? Moreover, how was the ne're-do-well bested and Hudson rescued at all? Suddenly, everything becomes more complex.

Could all this be due to Holmes's possible nature as a vampire? Perhaps he was able to solve "The Case of the Captured Cohort" with his nature to enter the slipstream of a new consciousness that was masked by the sudden scene transition we see before all becomes quiet on the Hudson front. While only speculation (since this is hidden from the dimension in which we dwell, apparently), this would explain why Holmes suddenly suffers from extreme exhaustion after routing his foe and Hudson's amazement with the result of the skirmish.

Ladies and gentlemen, I think that we're about to experience something great. We might just have witnessed a taste of Holmes's dual nature of existence. The excitement surely hasn't even begun!!!

Now, these events do draw out a few more questions for consideration:

1. Where was Christina-chan during all of this? While she most likely was calmly seeing to the maintenence of her flats, could it be possible that she was truly behind the successful outcome of this episode?
2. Will Hudson grow in spirit from this event? Perhaps we ultimately will find out that he's the true hero of this saga.
3. May it be possible that the diet and sleep schedule that we observed Holmes having is what gives him the strength to maintain his authority over insightful musings and the mystic forces that envelop both his revenant persona and his ability to solve mysteries without investigating them?

I guess the first 6 episodes were just a plot device constructed to give us a grasp on the concepts displayed in this episode, the characters in the anime only exist to get across the philosophy in this episode. This Vampire-identity thing is either the merging of all human existence or the merger of all of a mans projections with every other facet of his own mind it doesn't actually matter which is true as the Vampie-identity thing is just some bullshit, deus ex machina constructed by the director to foment a change in the viewers mind, to understand that personal truth is infinite and that all possible realities exist. The ideas in the philosophy are a bit varying but they attempt to explain the possible reasons for God to have created mankind in his image so to reflect upon himself, as in Holmes-san's case he creates an alternate reality and identity after gripping that he can set rules as his image of Houdson made the ground for him to stand upon he made a reality in which all men were friendly or caring and all women must find a way to live their lives around that reality and do the household.

The philosophy also attempts to dissuade people from depression as one's concept of personal value is, according to the directors philosophy, the thing that is most important. As best I understand personal reflection and creating personal value from within are the meaning of life that the writers are positing to us in this episode. This episode takes a lot of judeau-christian values and puts it into an amazing visual presentation like this episode.

It reflects on hidden truths such as the nihilistic nature of God (a god that believes in good(human) and evil(vampire) wouldn't have separated that knowledge from a creation made in his image and then punish him for attempting to imulate the one he was designed to imatate, therefore God is aware of the concepts of good/human and evil/vampire but refutes them, and this is why he separates himself from man.which is made obvious by the naming of "the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil"(diet) in the metaphorical sense of "fruit" fruits are what are ultimately created by actions, actions in biblical terminology are known as sowing seeds; Eating/Partaking of the fruits of the actions of a belief in Good and Evil has resulted in every major conflict and most every death and most every perception of loss or sadness or despair if not all of this entirely by itself. This teaching contradicts most every holy text based on the hebrew God but only really the ones that involve record keeping and descriptions from a human perspective.

I could continue to expound upon the ideas presented in this episode but the major things to take away from this are to abandon the concepts of good/human and evil/vampire the only cloud perceptions of truth in the reality you are in so that you might reflect on yourself without the consideration of harm from others becoming solely self reliant and thereby defining yourself and creating an imovable image of self worth you can always compare to.

The way Holmes threatened that criminal in the beginning was daring as hell! "Omae no ho ga urusai, aku to ga." So friggin' chill!

Even Holmes' antic in such a serious situation was way funnier than any comedy series. That level of humor is straight up unprecedented in the history of anime.

Of course, the highlight of the episode was Holmes giving that criminal a royal thrashing and saving his dear mate Hudson. That was too fucking badass, especially with that epic soundtrack playing in the background! I couldn't contain all my hype during that scene! >.<

Masterpiece episode! Noticed that the opening song now has sound effects for the respective sequences, which made it even better! 5/5 once again! It's so underrated, it hurts.. (._.)

Villian: "Hey, don't you care if he lives or dies?"
Holmes: "As long as I'm safe, I'm ok."

I'm curious as to what Holmes did. Pretty funny when he aimed his toy gun at Hudson though.
