Just finished the episode Raw, it was actually a pretty enjoyable episode, even solid for the animation part. The prior episodes were just rather buildup towards the entire Totem Trials.

The anime focuses more on a different Pokemon compared to the game (I know this is a bit rough considering I'm kinda comparing, but this seems more funny since Rattatas in Alola are Dark/Normal and Yungoos and Gumshoos are Normal), so in a way it makes sense and adds up to it somehow.

As for the animation, I do like how they handled the areas with this battle, nice battle choreography and it doesn't feel like its taking away the motion from my end. In another note I do like how Ash is more competent here compared to the previous seasons at least the start (heck he's even more competent than BW and I don't really like BW all that much, I still consider it the worst generation anime wise), so I like that bit around there.

Aside from that I made few memes where Gumshoos appears, and I mentioned you know who *cough* Donald Trump *cough* (I still can't forget this at all Lol I'm sorry), and the double battle for this episode was pretty solid, using Sand Attack to counter Electric Moves which works, and using Rowlet's... Um, this is Leafage right? I think it's Leafage to make a whirpool against the two and then using an offensive attack strategy, it works very well.

Woah this episode was sarcastic af LOL

So, this was the Sun-based challenge? At the moment I'm watching gameplays from Moon xD Still they didn't left the Alolan Rattata and Raticate behind, I liked that aspect.

Good for Pikachu and Rowlet for beating the Island Trial ^^ Now Ash has the first Z-Crystal from the island challenge. I wonder if he'll use all of them at least once...

Next is the Grand Trial! That one is now serious stuff :P

Wait a question, so the first Totem in the game depends on the version? Because I played Moon at the very least xD

Yep but it happens only in the first Island Trial. Gumshoos for Sun and Alolan Raticate for Moon, the rest is the same in both versions :P

Ah I see then, thanks for telling >-<

But yeah I played Moon so I kinda went a bit like "well this make sense in a way" for the anime but when I saw your comment I was scratching a bit through, but thanks anyways tho >-<

You're welcome ^^

The anime will most likely differ in some aspects, more than past seasons did which were simpler to adapt with the gyms journey. In this case Ash stays in a school so it may be adapted into school trips for the Island challenges. Or not sure what can they do for that, got to wait the moment xD

So apparently, Rattatta immigrated to Alola as stowaways on a ship, i.e. illegal immigrants. Man, they're really doing this on purpose, aren't they?

Today i realised i just love the OP, the groovy beat and it just feels fun and nostalgic for some reason.

That Dekagoos having a glow made it actually look like a boss fight wich was nice imo.

I was hoping that we'd be introduced to Ilima as this is his trial in the games, but instead Hala was the judge. I hope Ilima shows up at some point. I'm still unsure of the other captain's roles in this show. As far as I know, they haven't mentioned being Trial Captains.

Next up is Lana's trial against Totem Wishiwashi. I wonder if they'l have her be the judge?

I enjoyed the battle. It was well choreographed and animated but one thing about this episode bugged me. If the point was for Ash to find a way to deal with the rattata and raticate without battling then he kinda failed since in the end the solution still involved driving them out by force.

Wow, after Satoshi spending so much time at school this episode just seemed to fly forward!! He already completed his first trial, all in one episode! I wonder what they'll do when he leaves the island... are all his classmates going to come with him? Only a couple of them? ???

Totem trials are fucking awful compared to gym battles. Only 4 minutes long battle with no strategy thinking at all, just attack after attack, mainly due to the totem Pokemon having no trainer. SM will no doubt be the worst series ever for those of us who enjoy Pokemon for its battles.

... not sure if serious. The trail captains function as "gym leader" I am sure they'll keep things interesting. Besides, it is the FIRST trail which gives viewers an appetite of what's to come.

Honestly even if it is baiting I disagree with what he's saying. Also, having a different way to go through certain things (for example the totems) isn't quite bad per say, and another thing is that yes while you have no trainers with the Totems, you have acquaintances or assistants Pokemon that will help the Totem if it needs help, so its not like the totem has to do things alone at the very least, that's the point why the game added the mechanic, to make it harder in a sense.

And wasn't the anime series like this when it's not regarding on Gym Leaders too when it comes to 4 minutes or less?

Also, a point to make you also have the Kahunas as well, which are like Gym Leaders in a sense but each one of them at least to word it out, represent a guardian towards the Deities, or at least someone that will take leadership. If that even makes sense.

And as Shoryuken have said (sorry if I said the name wrong), it's the first trial. Not like the others are the same when it comes to difficulty (let me remind you of Lurantis with Synthesis... oh god I hated it)

Have you even watched the episodes? There exists no captains in the anime. All we'll get as far as trainer battle goes, during a three year period, is four Kahuna battles. That's awful. Instead they fill the void with low effort, shit quality filler battles like the one VS the butler in the previous episode.

And 8 gyms in 4 years is exciting ? Just as the previous shows you will probably get enough action in between. From air races to city tournaments. Just wait untill they are done worldbuilding, if you cant wait just save it up and marathon it or just return when stuff does get ''exciting'' enough.

While I can't say for sure that there aren't captains in the anime I find that kinda stupid in a sense. Again, the anime can do whichever they want and whatever they want to go through, we haven't even seen enough yet, and perhaps who knows, they might show the Kahunas... it takes times.

Also, by that logic all the battles in previous Pokemon series outside of the Gym Leaders are shit because they are also fillers in itself, in some shape or form. Also, don't say it isn't filler, because it is filler, regardless if it isn't or not. Pokemon's anime is all about journey and process, which isn't actually hard to look at imo (I've seen all the seasons as far as I am concerned so I'm pretty sure this isn't any different than the others when it comes to pacing, it will take time to focus on the characters and focus on their process throughout those).

And as someone has said in the forum, if you don't really find this exciting enough, I suggest you to focus on something else and wait until it does.

I think they're trying to say moreso, "We don't know how to feel about this!" because they have mixed feelings toward a weird bear rescuing/kidnapping them. Though as of this episode it's becoming more dislike.

It's a variation of their catch phrase.

In the original Japanese, they don't see "blasting off", but "It feels bad/We don't like this feeling". There are several other instances where they would use that catch phrase in different situations other than blasting off or they would say the opposite of it. The variation "what's up with this feeling" is a play to the usual running gag.
