honestly as someone who waited a very long time for this (like many of you probably have) i am disappointed. it wasn't horrible, but compared to what it could of been it wasn't really the best.

i do like the op, but i absolutely hated the ed. season one and two (especially two) had amazing ed songs i'd watch all the way through, this one i couldn't stand (that's just me though).

haise looks bEAUTIFUL, but honestly a lot of the other characters looked super strange (urie looks almost flat to me???), and something just seems really off with the animation.

as someone who is reading the manga, this felt really rushed - i think this was the first 6 chapters?? but, because i love the manga and tokyo ghoul overall so much, i will give it a 7 for now. hopefully it'll get better in coming episodes

Overall a good episode.
There wasn't so much story to the plot, since it heavily focused on characters introduction. The character designs look just fine, but kinda different from the manga. Also, the scene is presented quite differently, like how Sasaki pined down the enemy's kagune using Yukimura(1/3) and Mutsuki-Torso confrontation. I love the new OP and ED, it's a big improvement from Root A (excluding the ED, amazarashi's "Kisetsu wa tsugitsugi Shindeiku"). The background soundtrack is also good and befitting so far.

Good thing that I set a low expectation on this, so it turns out great for me and now it looks promising.
It's been a long since I read the first chapters of the manga, watching this episode brings me back the memories.

So it's 6 chapters per episode..well I wished they would have adapted 3 chapters per episode. it would have been on par with snk if that had happened. *Sigh*

I know, right? I have even done a thorough comparison between the two mangas, Tokyo Ghoul:re and Shingeki no Kyojin, based on volume compositions and number of chapters.
I just realized that all of my favorite characters, beside being stunningly beautiful, also happen to be exceptionally skilled murder machines. \('-')/

Man, and to think just the other week when the PV came out I gave Studio Pierrot the benefit of the doubt since it actually looked half decent.

But as to be expected, it was rushed as fuck with a bunch of shit cut out. And seeing as how it's 12 episodes it will continue to be rushed as fuck.

Seriously there was no reason to reveal Haise was Kaneki in the very first episode. That was something readers had to fucking stew on for a while. Like, as manga readers we knew but they teetered the line well enough that we didnt actually know until they dropped it on us in an epic way.

64BitRatchet said:
This isn't a continuation of Root A right?

Correct. They essentially ret-conned Root A so it basically never happened. They were even telling fans to read certain volumes of the manga before watching this so they'd be up to speed.

Its better than Root A but its worse than the OG In my Opinion.

The Events seemed Rushed AF. 6 Chapters (150 pages) in 1 episode?? I know thay wanted to get to the first Hype scene but its bad to rush. They left some detail from the manga like always but I ALWAYS EXPECT THAT. The Animation Was fine like everything else. THE OP WAS SHIT. After Unravel any tokyo Ghoul OP has been bad.

NOTE: The :re op is better than Root A but not as good as the Original's. Mostly like everything in this Pierrot Adaptation

That's the biggest problem though. They rushed the first episode to get to the "reveal" scene, but that's literally the opposite of what they should've done. They purposefully built up that tension to the reveal in the manga for a reason. It was meant to be this crazy big revelation and Pierrot essentially tossed out all excitement and meaningfulness behind it now.

That was... pretty fast. Like, I can see how so much content could be fit into 1 episode, but it doesn't take away from the fact that it could've been spaced out a bit better.

OP is nice, ED is kinda meh.

Sasaki seems powerful, all the characters are new. That's a different Tokyo Ghoul and I really like it. I prefer more the Kaneki white-haired than Sasaki, though.

Not bad for the first episode. Opening was better than √A.

I just hope that this series turnout good, because the franchise isn't bad. Its actually really good and interesting. Its's just Studio Pierrot fucking up everything they touch. Tokyo Ghoul, Black Clover.

Damn, I'm a huge fan of the art style of the manga, so it'll take a while to adapt to how they've chosen to animate it. Didn't think it was a bad episode, although I believe they changed some parts during the scene Mutsuki gets attacked (any reason why?). Watching this makes me want to re-read the manga lol. And only 12 episodes? ;-;

Yeah, me too. The art style in the manga is a huge improvement from the original Tokyo Ghoul, and the reason to why I love the series.
I think they did some alteration because Studio Pierrot is usually aiming at younger group of audiences. Perhaps this is also the reason for the rush and shounen-ish style, because teenagers (usually) can't stand a slow paced show.
You'd better not. Because I don't. This way I can enjoy the show to the fullest, by trying to forget the details in the manga.

Ah, I figured they were likely toning things down for a younger audience. A bit of a shame, really. And I suppose you're right about trying to forget details from the manga, I can't even remember who Orochi is supposed to be. Guess I'll try watching this season till the end before getting back to the manga~

Saiko is pretty cool but she barely gets screen time, even in the manga. Urie is just straight annoying but he becomes more bearable later on. Shirazu is meh. Sasaki is boring when he is not Kaneki... Mutsuki?? Fuck Mutsuki...

Not a bad start.... The pacing is very fast.... I think they adapted like 5 chapters but that's fine with me because the first part of the manga was kinda slow paced, however I do hope that they turn the pacing down from the next episode.

I am not a big fan of the opening but maybe it'll grow on me. The animation quality is pretty good.

It was a little confusing but I kind of remember the jist of how Re is based on. Only part I loved was at the end where it shows old kaneki trying to get a hold of the new kaneki , forgot his new name already , and then...when he cracked his finger ... I screamed YES!! I GET TO SEE HIM AGAIN!! but then it was the end of the episode ... Nooooo lol can't wait for next week. Great first episode!

Why?
Op was ok, but pretty much confirm that it will be rushed beyond belive.
It will end on

ED was cool 'cuz lot of Saiko in it.
Episode was rushed (it ended at the final page of chapter 6).
They didn't show that

No explenation on what RC Cells are and what level Quinx Squad have.
Arima didn't recive book from Haise (showcasing their bond).
Akira didn't declere that they will capture Torso within a month.
And scene when Kaneki goes to Haise at the end of episode was sooooo much better in manga. Kaneki had centipede mask on which made this scene much more creepier.
Overall 2/5 - I'm actually worried about this series now T.T
Also I'm shocked that they didn't show who Orochi is in this ep, well it'll be revieled in next episode.

This was a good one. It's been two years since I've watched the first two seasons and read the manga. Even though the second season was not according to the manga, I prefer the anime over manga because of the battle scenes and all are more enjoyable to watch than read imo. The op could be better and the animation quality was a little odd. I don't mind the rush so much I think the arcs are way too long anyway. We'll see how this turns out. I hope that we'll get a 4th season announcement right after the final like snk got last year.

I have mixed feelings with this episode, glad to see the series and especially the cast animated, but the skipping of stuffs and pacing puts me off.

The OP visuals is kinda like the unravel and the music much better than √a, the ED which is the chill one, I like it more than the OP, saiko in it is adorable af. Based on the OP, it seems like they will do up to Rosewald arc, well goodluck in censoring, such as the scenes from the stitched character. The OP showed cameos to which I guess won't show up on this anime, iirc from their respective appearances from the manga, unless pierrot do original scenes AGAIN.

Animation is average, it ranges from bad to good, most close ups have good animation, well that's just for me. I like how they done the preview, a symbolism which looks like portrayal of haise distorted personality.

It's looking like this is going to be another rushed adaptation similar to season 1. They've already packed in a lot of content for just 1 episode and they've already begun removing scenes. The opening is decent, I don't think it's Unravel level but it's enjoyable. The VA's are doing a great job so far no real complaints in that department. Art/animation isn't that impressive, feels rather generic and some scenes are pretty bad looking imo, I think this is a pretty common standard with anything Studio Pierrot related.

Anime only people are going to struggle to understand this story if they don't go and read the original manga from chapter 1-143. Root A was basically anime only and thankfully they've retconned it and are going to attempt to stick to the :Re manga.

3/5 is what I'd give it on the forum poll on a scale of 10 I'd give it a 6.7/10 right now.

Don't feel like the first episode. Previous season first episodes was more...impactful, maybe? Kinda scenes are doesn't have something memorable. First episode in first season was really well done, and Root A have a beautiful scene with first snow. OP and ED really unimpressive too. First season have a one of best anime opening and second season have a nice melancholic ending. But whatever. First half of manga was really great, but in second half manga became less interesting.
