Sousuke's resolve to keep Kaname safe is about to be tested by Kaname herself. She can't abandon her friends to their deaths, and he knows that. Oh man, the next episode is gonna be such a rough watch. :(

The animation department on this one is really superb!
Damn! so many collateral damage!
Looks like Captain Tessa is a tough woman on the inside and deceivingly cute on the outside!
Too much CG use...
5/5.

Now that's what I call BUDGET!

Tessa's base is getting bombarded. They better find a way out of there fast. And way to go for Tessa showing that she's not to be taken lightly. Also, nice transition into boosting the morale of the soldiers a bit too.

Looks like we got two conflicts going on: Tessa's base getting bombarded, and Chidori's classmates being taken hostage. "Big One Percent"...is Sousuke gonna go Solid Snake and be that one percent to save them? Well that's 2 for 2 on the action. Let's see if the third episode keeps it up!

This episode showing how much of a cowardly scumbag Tessa's brother really is, I hope there is a bigger reason for going after the whispered than just technological superiority cuz if not then he's just a selfish asshole who's OK with abusing people for his own gain.

To be fair, this was not just directed at Speck, but anyone else in that group that was harboring such thoughts or were getting taken in by Speck. She can't very well arrest all the pilots there. This situation needed her to establish her authority in a different way that wouldn't jeopardize the mission becasue as she said they still need trained AS people like Speck. They aren't in a situation they can afford to lose men like this. So the theatrics make more sense when you look at it that way.

Nice episode, is getting good. Love how badass and competent Sousuke is throughout the episode (I know understatment of the year for FMP but is still awesome). Loved how Tessa showed why she's the captain of the Danaan. Sigh, Arbalest doesn't look too good in the opening. We'll all be saying goodbye to it soon :( , but luckily, the Laevatein will be there to show Amalgam what for :).

dropped this because of that absolutely hideous cgi during the driving scene. had to stop it there. im overreacting, but i take issue with cgi implementation in anime in more general terms. it can never be the future of the medium and when i see it becoming more widespread (see: the most recent TWO berserk adaptations) it makes me sick and sad

agreed the rendering during the car scene seems lazy and rushed work, it should be improved in blu ray version

if the enemy is serious about getting serious, people close to Chidori is bound to get hurt, another intense episode

They say that a chain a chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If a link already broke down under presure that means that the chain itself is worthless. The only way to fix that is to replace the link and seal the chain or just shorten the chain and reseal it.

Arresting Speck would have been the choice to stablish her rank and her determination as commander and set an example of what would happen to any other desertor. It's better to get rid of one bad apple before it rots the whole basket. Even if they are incredibly short handed a mentally frail gunman like Speck has no place in what's supposed to be the top of private militia.

Tessa's words totally contradict her actions. She claims that she's not going to beg with tears in her eyes for cooperation or asking for a mix of sympathy and/or loyalty. But that is exactly what she's asking for the whole crew, to stay loyal to the cause because everyone arrived on their own volition.

She's disrespecting her own rank by allowing an element of her team to diss her and blurt out act of treason in the open. Discipline is one of the most important elements in any military unit, and she's not showing any kind of discipline by letting something as critical as a treason to just slip by because they are short handed.

Mixed feelings on the CG. Great action scenes but I really prefer the pure drawn style. The CG is just too obviously CG and discordant from the normal animation.

That all said the animation animation is delightful. Probably had to use CG to compensate for the time - fair enough trade in the end.

Action action action. The intro also spoiled a lot of where we're going with this. They're gonna cover a LOT of ground this season. I do worry that what this show did so well in the first season is breathe. I don't know if the story works to be super serious all the time. Thankfully we do have an emotional connection to the characters. Well I am happy enough we're still getting more FMP. One of the better mecha shows so far for the last few seasons.

Very disappointed by the sloppy overuse of CG in the car chase, but the story is otherwise keeping the tension going. I wish KyoAni was still working on this. So far The Second Raid is still the better season, just based on the first two episodes. But to be fair, TSR is pretty hard to beat, and this is still a solid continuation right now.

I can't with this pacing *o*
I'm so used to things going slow... its such a treat to have so much going on at a steady pace, it is so enjoyable!
Tessa, so much to love about this captain. She has shown multiple times what a great leader she is. So calm and collective.. and no place for bs! It is nice having those scenes c:
And specially nice seeing them share a laugh afterwards as well... however brief.

That aside, reality is hitting Chidori hard. The comments that Leonard made in the last episode (about her being superior to the rest, innocent casualties, and sousuke's kill count) are forcing Chidori to face what's happening... I'm anticipating her to give herself up to spare everyone at some point in this series.
Also! I loooove the ending song, it is sooo pretty and soothing c:

Aaaand now the week wait starts... I haven't had to do this in a long while >.<

I see what you mean..
But for me, I feel the way she handled it stayed true to her words and was the best way to go about it.
I mean, it is very natural for many of the men to think of treason since they are facing what seems unmistakable death. Tessa could have had him locked up or killed to set an example, but that would lead to even stronger feelings of betrayal from the other soldiers.
Instead she addressed it. She gave a warning which I do fully expect her to follow it when/if another case of treason arises.
From that scene, I took as
-she wasn't going to ask for sympathy mixed with loyalty depending on their goodwill
-she was expecting loyalty because of their positions which they signed up for and anything else would get you shot.
-Plus, she is the type to give second chances.. to a soldier who thought of treason under an extreme situation, just like many where, but just happened to say it out loud. But now that she has dealt with this issue, there are no more chances.

Also, I didn't think of her shooting the ground as childish.
Obviously a lot of the soldiers see her... petite, soft spoken, a "great girl"... She needed to make a statement and have everyone realize that she is the captain for a reason and that they are also "walking the path of a warrior"

The CGI for the car chase seemed unfinished and lacked textures. Hopfully this can be polished for the BD. People need to realise that CGI is part or anime like it or not and Xebec have good experience see Yamato 2199. Remember the origional also used CGI to a lesser extent but producing anime is expensive these days.

Great episode anyway, i think things will get worse for Mithril next week.

They CGI is okay. Much worse in most other shows.

But love that his show is back. Same feeling like 13 years ago. The pace is really "slow". and they show thing in the OP that is happening 1/3 in the manga. And in this pacing it should happen araound ep 5-7. So the show will get cramped as hell in the last 6 eps. or this is a silent split cour.

OH MY GOD the entire episode was so stressful to watch!
I really like the current tone, and the major theme of Chidori realizing what Sousuke actually does is some GOOD SHIT.

There was so much CG in this episode, even entire backgrounds, and it didn't take me out of it at all.
Looking forward to the next episode!

More white-knuckle action for episode 2 - the tension is relentless. If anyone still had doubts if Amalgam really got serious, pretty sure there isn't any more after this. They pulled out all the stops here, even getting the other classmates as hostages!

It was only a matter of time that someone smart from Amalgam realized just how much their advantage over Mithril is - nearly every AS they have is equipped with a Lambda Driver, which while inferior to the ARX-7's own in single combat they more than make up for it with numbers.

Remember that warehouse with rows of Venom mechs destroyed in TSR? That looks like a mass-produced version - pretty sure Amalgam can and will make more of it. The Arbalest will usually prevail and as we saw in TSR Sousuke can even win in a 1v6 contest by divide and conquer tactics but this is different - a smart enemy knew exactly when and where to strike; they knew Sousuke's Arbalest can't be everywhere at once.

3 Behemoths attacking Mithril's main base? Damn, without Lambda Drivers I don't think Mithril's M9s can manage to destroy one. They can buy time for the de Danaan to finish setting up though. Would be curious to see if Mithril managed to salvage at least one LD from the ones they defeated in TSR though...

The weakest point of this episode was the car chase CG, but everything else was excellent.

This was definitly one of the best FMP episodes ever. No holds barrel, this shit is getting REAL!
That part when Tessa said "If it is nuclear, it will be instantaneous"...
Shows how dire the situation is, Sousuke even had to leave that kid there bleeding, against Kaname's objection.
Talking about her, it was a really tough one on her for sure, she now is finally understands what it means to be in the middle of a war, I feel bad for her, no one kid should ever have to get this kind of reality check, but she has alot on her plate herself with the Whispered stuff (talking about that ending too...).

Just going to give this a 9, it is safe to say it deserves it, if they are going to keep going all out like this.
Xebec is doing an awesome job here for sure.
OP isnt bad, can grown on me... but I absolutly love that ED theme!

Wow! This new FMP is the most serious, unlike the previous 3 seasons where it had some comedy bits on it.

FMP The Second Raid was just like this, you just didnt see any civilians getting shoot, comedy there was also minimal and only reserved for some episodes towards the middle.

Also Sousuke just ran around shooting and throwing grenades in an residential area, I hope there will consequences for this. And you would think Chidori will be used to this by now, considering what's shes been through in the previous season's.

Wow, this series looks like garbage. Characters looks like crap, backgrounds look like flat crap and you really don't use trash CG (that looks like 10 years old trash at that) for the most exciting action scene of the episode. What happened to you Xebec? I know you have to work on USY2202 but it's no excuse to release such atrocious animation. Shit, I hope it's because of USY, not that they forgot how to do decent animation...

As for the non technical aspects of the show: yup, Chidori is the cunt I remembered her to be.

The pursuit in the car in cgi is obscene, linear plot without climax, in the next surely Chidori will be captured to save the hostages, then ntr, a classic of the Japanese narrative. But still a fine episode.
