An island to see Mew hmmm, it was sure dangerous at the beginning with the mud with the Kingler and the waterfall with the Gyarados.

Really interesting to see a fight against Mewtwo, well Mewtwo is sure extremely strong but Lucario and Cinderace were also great during the fight it was impressive to be honest.

This episode really makes me want to rewatch the first movie, I feel like it was one of the best episode so far in terms of quality of animation, fights, BGM etc, I loved it.

While this wasn't exactly the grand return after 19 years for Mewtwo I would have liked, it was still a pretty good episode. Mewtwo and Ash recognized each other and the battle at the end with Lucario's double team and Mewtwo effortless blocking their attacks, along with the tail-whip and giant Shadow Ball bomb was all nice. Mewtwo apparently takes care of small woodland creatures now.

Also this ep basically leaves it open for Mewtwo to appear again later in the season if the writers wish. Hopefully it's not his only appearance this series.

Oh boi! Mewtwo totally swept the floor with them (although that was to be expected), it was also quite nice that he was a kind of "mentor" to Ash and Goh when it came to their dreams. In addition, the end is open for another possible appearance in the future. Next week, a food contest XD...

As expect from the banned Pokemon in Smorgon servers, it's too OP. btw if there is free food there is Team Rocket

Well! I expected more from this episode, I don't like how the fight ended with Mewtwo I expected more from ash, come on go is fine he just started so anyhow he didn't stand a chance but ash is chapion of alola and with Pikachu he also defeated legendary Pokemon but In this fight he didn't do much. Anyway overall episode was
good and it might be even better if they had focus more on backstory of ash with Mewtwo.

The king is back! The fight between them was good especially Lucario-Cinderace one.

So is there multiply versions of Mewtwo? I recall the last one was voiced by a female, while the original was a male. I'm glad the OG Mewtwo is back and doing well for himself, since we last saw him. Good character development throughout the episode. I thought one of the baby Pokemon that is with Mewtwo was Mew, oh well. :p

crazy to think its that Mewtwo’s first appearance on the actual tv show “canon” since Gen1 when he offscreen wrecked Gary at Viridian City...and hes just relegated to just be the character of the day 😕

They're not even being subtle with the First Movie reference with Mewtwo descending down and the ending where he disappears with the other Pokemon lol.

Mewtwo turning into a wise old man who's no longer angry with the world living in an uninhabited island with Pokemon as their guardian. Hmmm now where did I see this before. Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised at how this episode turned out. I thought it was gonna be another Team Rocket scheme again with Giovani trying to recapture Mewtwo. I'm glad they're already over that plot.

Also really glad they gave justice to Mewtwo's strength and not just let him get beaten by a Mega Charizard lul.

Don't think too much about it honestly. The anime has always been really vague about a lot of stuff. Remember there's canonically a baby Lugia in the anime even though legendaries cannot breed except Manaphy.

I know I'm late but damn this episode was like the biggest tease in years. I mean sure it was obvious to anyone with common sense that nothing special would happen here other than Mewtwo's come back but still what was even the point of him returning for such a boring episode where he just overpowered everyone? We know Mewtwo's a badass; did we really need the 2nd half of the episode as a reminder? What a waste of time.

We've known that at least 2 Mewtwo exist since the 16th movie, yeah.

You're applying video game mechanics to the anime, which nobody should be doing at this point since it's obvious that the anime doesn't work like the games. But yeah, Lugia can breed in the anime because unlike in the games, Legendaries are capable of procreation in the anime.

It was pretty cool to see the original Mewtwo again, but that only makes me dislike the wasted opportunity from the BW era even more. I mean, last time we saw Mewtwo, it was in a New York-like city, Genesect's story was similiar to Mewtwo's, Unova was based on New York, and YES they do a Mewtwo movie with Genesect, but it's not the original Mewtwo. :(

But that's a long time ago by now. It seems they're done with pretending what happened before didn't happen, or at least sort of.

Mewtwo's second return was anti-climactic. It played some of the ominous music from the original movie, which was nostalgic but unfitting as the boys were cheerful and never seemed to be in any danger. (Note: I watched the sub, dunno if the dub used different music since the dub movie used different music.) Not a bad episode, but basically just fluff.

To add to the discussion above: though some of the movies are obviously non-canon to the rest of the series, Mewtwo Strikes Back and its follow up did seem to be.

the whole start of the episodes was kinda funny how they just wanted to go through the woods looking for mew bet ending going sort of obstacles maze LOL, but the mewtwo part was what important really here.

seemed that ash recognized mewtwo and mewtwo recognized ash, the probable reason for not telling us about how they know each other is probably from 2 reasons: 1. they wanted the series to be easy for new watchers, and now telling the whole story would waste entire episode of possible action (LOL) 2. the first movie doesn't end there, there's a TV movie where ash meet mewtwo again, the conclusion from there was kinda ending with the solution this episode gave that mewtwo is helping pokemon and making them get into his own pokemon paradise, the writers just didn't wants get into the whole details that even most fans would forget 'till now because of story before 20 years ago that aired on TV movie LOL.

the battle was very nice and solid. i don't care about goh not succeeding much, but ash strategic annoyed me, he just needed the right strategic with the kind of his own surprises attack, but he just merely did hit and hit and hit attack, really disappointed. but those kind of episode at least shows how pokemon would be model after DBZ action LOL.

edit: oh and i forgot about last second showing mew. when he was laughing i was telling myself that he probably saying: "lol those stupid human thought they could catch so easily, i just faked this whole episode hihihihi" and i just LOLed so much xDD

that was a good fight and a good episode. saying that even tho I like gou I still don't support gou's dream, I think it will unintentionally have the same consequences as what giovanni is trying to achieve. some may say that he won't be able to catch all the legendary but I think the way they are building up his character, it sure seems possible, by the end of this series he might have one in his hand who knows lol

this has always been true but it's still annoying how they always reset ash and his memories and they come back only when they want, I hope they stop doing this but it doesn't seem so

Boy they're really good at teasing the fact that Ash has a lot of history with Mewtwo, without him actually explaining any of it to Go or the audience. Good episode for nostalgia though. The little details like them needing a special ticket to get to the island, and the tall grass they were walking through at one point were all nice little nods to the original Faraway Island for Mew.

FInally a realistic Portrayal of How Powerful a Pokemon is and How it thinks.
Good for You, MewTwo, You'll make sure Goh's Dream Remains a Dream...and then we'll get the next season

ohh boy i cringed so much at this kid gou thinking he can capture Mewtwo literally one of the most OP legendary in the series when he couldn't even capture a minor legendary like zapdos, and to think he wanted to capture mew as his first pokemon LMAO what a clown i really dislike this character i hope his dream is shattered into pieces.

Yeah, Pokémon sure knows how to be cringe but if you didn’t like this episode I don’t see a reason why you should keep watching the series.
What more can you ask for? Cool opening referencing starters from every gen, a little adventure where Pokemon like Kingler and Gyarados actually look menacing, and a final showdown with Mewtwo no less!
Don’t throw a fighting Pokemon at him Ash, seriously man you should know your type advantages by now… But the animation was cool and the action was worthy of a good Dragon Ball episode, so I’ll let that slide.
