THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I was starting to lose interest, but the backstory definitely pulled me back in. I'd rather see more of this than another side story like with Deep Dragon. Also, this show would be infinitely better if someone muzzled that raging midget whose decibel levels make me prefer the melody of fingernails scratching a chalkboard.

these last 4 episodes were really dull. so this episode was needed in order to end the losing streak

here's the thing, though:
1. some of these scenes are unnecessarily long. whether it's staring at the sky and not saying anything, or running through a hall for 10 seconds straight with nothing else happening. this whole episode was jammed pack full of "dead air" that i fast forwarded through

2. they spent the first 7 episodes telling us that orphen was the greatest sorcerer the tower had ever known. now in the 8th episode they tell us that azalie was the sorceress that everybody else looked up to. ummm...there's a disconnect here somewhere...

3. i still don't give two shits about azalie. she brought this on herself. and while learning more of their backstory is good for the overall story, it doesn't change the fact that i don't like azalie, that she's not a good person, and that i don't care if she lives or dies

Orphen was quite aware on Azalie someday finding her downfall because of her fascination with obtaining greater power. He sure has changed a lot compared to his younger self but still not strong enough to save Azalie.
