What happened to the ‘original twist’?

Does anyone remember when the producers of P5A said there was going to be some original plot twist different to the game? Looking back on it after my royal play through, it feels like the exact same (bar timeline issues) as the game...
So did I miss something in the anime or is my memory of what was said wrong?
...or did they just pull a 180 on us

P5 anime is just waste of time. P4A is a classic and P3 movies are incredible stuff. Watch those.
