I didn't quite love it like the other arcs, but Tonari's backstory was strong and emotional, and I found it refreshing that
I admit I didn't feel the emotional connection to her friends as I did secondary characters in other arcs like Parona or even Rynn, and I definitely admit the pacing got a bit off at points, but I thought the arc's general themes as food for thought (the psychology behind the islanders and the tournaments, particularly) were very enjoyable and even the tournament fights had me intrigued, especially those with

The arc wasn’t bad for the plot but the animation quality dropped, I personally think that’s why people hate it (personally it’s my least favorite, but I don’t hate it at all).

I feel the same as you. People saw a 5% drop in animation quality and lost their damn minds.

Ok I admit ... I hate it a little more than I should but...it's because you know... I was absolutely loving the show.. episode 1 was a freaking masterpiece and one of the best opening to any anime ever ..
Then machi arc was also heart breaking..but it developed the character..
Then we got Gugu arc which was also great

Each arc fushi grew as a character and experienced new things..
After gugu died I was expecting him to avoid making relationships to not let close ones die .. as character development .. which indeed happen (pioran forced herself on her so that doesn't bother me (btw pioran is goat))

What I didn't like is how bland and unoriginal the island arc was compared to the rest of the show which was awesome..

It's like a 7/10 arc in between 10/10 story..

And characters of island arc being annoying and selfish (it's okay to show selfish characters but fushi accepted and forgave them to easily..) didn't help

But the last 2 episodes easily switched back to 10/10 quality so I am just hoping for an awesome second season just like s1 or hopefully better

ya .. people complaining about animation are just making up reasons.. it was just a small drop .. I disagree with people saying it dropped in production quality ..

rightt it wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. I found tonari's character development to be really good as well.

Australia arc. Idk, I found it to be not as good. Like when the rock bear t-poses and they bombard it somehow without it burrowing into the ground to escape or breaking some puny ropes. I didn't like tonari and was prepared for her to die, but her friends had to go and die a fools death instead. When hayase offers to "kill" her already dead friends, I could not wrap my head around them refusing to let her. And fushi leaving hayase in the boat was too much for me. How can he be that reckless, naive and overall dumb?

I get that hayase is a psychotic bitch, but I would let her stick around with the condition that she behaves. That or kill her once and for all.

I think they didn't let Hayase do it bc they know how perverse she is. It's something about honoring the dead. Hayase would have enjoyed killing Tonari's friends and Tonari and Fushi would have hated that, especially because Fushi values life so much. He only kills the knockers because they steal life. But Hayase is a crazy psychotic bitch. When he saw her in the fighting arena and shown any type of remorse about March or what happened back then, I think he might have let her kill Tonari's friends. But instead Hayase flaunted and bragged about killing Parona to keep Fushi safe. Like??? What??? She bragged to Fushi about murder. She doesn't get to kill anyone else he cares about

Also, as much as Fushi hates Hayase, I doubt he thinks it's okay for him to take her life. What if people care about her the way he cared about Gugu or March? Remember, his mind is that of a child, maybe a young teenager. There aren't many children that could kill in cold blood, that's why I think leaving her stranded in the middle of the sea was the best option to him. The knockers usually attacked groups of people near Fushi, so I'm sure he didn't think one would come looking for Hayase. And that's the thing, Fushi IS naive. He's only been around for a few years you know?

Yeah. I agree. It definitely doesn't deserve the hate and I really came to like Tonari's character a lot more than I did initially, as she was just annoying at the start, but she got really good as the story progressed.
