For my part, I found that yes, the first episode is kind of a mess - the CGI which is not just the fault of this series alone but I wish the industry would abandon and bury once and finally for all (barring minimal uses here and there for touch-up or some exceptional cases where it's actually well-crafted and can be made to actually provide an impressive and unique aesthetic sense to a whole world and show, like Dorohedoro, Houseki no Kuni, Beastars, etc.) is absolutely atrocious and hideous to the point it can easily take you out of it. I don't know why they can't just use 2D art for the same exact characters. A lot of isekai even using CGI
horses for horse-drawn carriages.
Why?! Why is it necessary when it looks like a pile of dung? There can't be people of such poor taste approving these decisions who don't actually think it looks as bad as it does.
It's generic in many aspects, the editing and writing choices like a main character's introduction seems ill-conceived.
But other than that, it'll probably just be watchable popcorn entertainment. Visually it could be far far better as noted, but that awful CGI trend is something I'm noticing with more and more isekai and action anime increasing year by year and there should be push back against it on a wide front rather than just mistakenly attributing the problem to one particular series or even studio.
I'll probably keep watching it because I'm only watching three other new seasonals (Slow Loop, maybe Sabikui Bisco, and maybe Ryman's Club - I can easily immediately see aspects to excite and embrace or dislike and dismiss with any of these shows so far, except Ryman's because it hasn't started yet) and four returning/continuing series (Digimon Ghost Game, Ousama Ranking, Hanyou no Yashahime: Sengoku Otogizoushi season 2, and Vanitas no Carte season 2), but it's not that I truly expect it to be that great or some marvel compared to other series and even other fantasy specifically.
Did anyone start this expecting Lord of the Rings or Berserk? It's a modern isekai based on a light novel. Hopefully it just has a fun enough plot and some character moments. The worst loss and shame is the incongruency visually of forcing alien-looking trashy CGI into the rest of the world.
I agree 100% On minimizing CGI in anime due to budget cuts also I wasnt expecting anything 'great' but something that I could watch and like it.
