Do we need to watch the original series to understand this one?

I've never watched the original series, nor do i know where to find it. Do i need to watch it to know what is going on in here or is it a remake?

It's not required but there are a few references to vol 1 here and there. however they do have a couple of differences in the first 3 episodes

There is already a thread about this but no, apparently this will have new original anime content and will deviate from the original RWBY in episodes 4 and up.

The first 3 episodes have stuff from the original RWBY, it also has new things in it and new characters (the witch), going inside the dream is also new, however, these 3 episodes was rushed as hell too.

As an RWBY fan like me, I am actually disappointed but if you have never watched RWBY before then you might not notice those issues.

Nope. The first three episodes tell you all you need to know. The pacing is a bit fast so I can't give you any guarantees of getting invested into the characters.

No you technically do not, but I feel like I lost all the characterization from the original in this recap. I would still watch the beacon arc from the original for the characters since this feel more like a retelling of events.

Yeah, I'm going to say that this anime rushes through the first season or two of the original. Basically what it fells like the first 3 episodes was used to rush all the old stuff and get to the new content where the story will diverge from the original, starting season 4.

Technically you don't need to watch the original series, but there is more character and world developpement so I recomende to watch the original.
