As title says. Seems like a good anime and people kept hating on the previous ones so that's why I'm asking.

the first 2 episodes is said to be a recap of first 2 volumes. The plot then goes original.

I'm not sure about the manga for this one. This was originally an American web animated series. Seasons were called volumes. 2 volumes were directed by Monty Oum(RIP) the original creator. The first 2 episodes are said to be a recap for the first 2 volumes. If you want to understand it in detail, then you need to watch the first 2 volumes of the original series.

Personally, I dont think you need to do that. But if you want to follow the series, then go for it.

I tried to go on Crunchyroll and see if it's on there, but it has 8 volumes in total. Will they also spoil the rest of them?

Yes, the first 3 episodes that are available only go over a bit of the show. They cut some good parts out of it. You’d only need to watch season 1.

"Should I watch the previous seasons to watch this?"

You can watch this without any previous knowledge, it's a sort of alternative universe remake of the beginning of the old RWBY show (Volume 9 of which is coming this year).

If this story gets you interested you can watch the 3D CGI series from 2013. (Eventually) you wouldn't be spoiled beyond Volume 2, not to mention those two first seasons are kind of short, also the action scenes are shortened here and some secondary plot threads omitted.
The manga and other comics are bonus stories.

technically you could watch the first vol just to get familiar with the characters as this is a retelling of the RWBY series but with a couple of differences and new characters

I recommend watching the first vol of the original series for context. however, this is a stand alone anime and there's not too much need for having prior knowledge of the series

The mangas are mostly expansion of the original "character trailers" and thus are supplementary materials, they go more in depth with added context and details that gives more context to the things that goes on in the original show. They also give more backstory and character development to the characters focused. The manga drawn by Shirow Miwa has really cool art from my memory.

If you do plan on reading them I'd highly recommend you to watch the 4 original character trailers titled "Red", "White", "Black" and "Yellow" trailers, they are very short, very well made though. I'd still recommend the trailers even if you don't plan on reading the manga tbh lol.

No need because Ice Queendom is the remake of the original with its own twist. But if you want to enjoy more content and the main plot of the story, watching the original would be a great because it has went quite far and you can see whether you will enjoy the main goal of the MC or not.

If you've watched all the original until the latest volume (volume 8), you can see the reasons why some people hated the original because it somehow took the route people doesn't enjoy as much.

The answer to that depends on how far you wish to delve.

Based on its first three episodes, I believe that it could be enjoyed without the context of the series proper, but it might not resolve to much more than a standard anime action show with the associated tropes. Part of the fun for veteran viewers is the opportunity to compare and contrast.

I wouldn’t discourage you from watching Ice Queendom first, but I would encourage you to springboard to the series proper afterwards, at least.

The thing is MAL doesn’t view RWBY anime, because it wasn’t made in Japan. So, you won’t find it on MAL anywhere.

If your going to watch this anime, you only need season 1. Thou, I’m not sure what the rest of this will be like.
