rooster teeth have been going downhill FAST since around 2016 and are on the verge of collapsing altogether, is this a last ditch effort by warner bros to squeeze out the last few dollars before then?

I like to think of it 1 part wish fulfillment by the crwby, 1 part what you said and 1 part an attempt at jump starting it, (because it's been largely dormant as a series for a few years) by introducing it to a broader audience.

Not really, Roosterteeth is only a subsidy of a smaller portion of Warner Bros and technically have been doing there own thing for years. Warner Bros Japan is the only part that is still apart of RWBY ( hence Ice Queendom even being able to be made), it’s more of paying respect to Monty Oum(RIP) and making RWBY be the first western anime (Even though this isn’t the main RWBY series).

a bit yes. but also I think it's also in respect of mounty oum (rip) and giving the fans an anime. the fans seem to have been wanting RWBY to be an anime for a while.

That would be the DC crossover movie which is coming in 2023.

Ice Queendom is supposed to be an effort from Smile Company and Bandai Namco to cash on the popularity of RWBY in Japan. Smile is looking forward to sell some figurines with the designs from here - regular and winter versions.

IDK what's they're trying to do, but that's one possibility. I'm trying to be positive and think it's that they're trying to bring a good story to the Japanese audience. I was hoping RT would be making another season and wrapping up the original series. Seeing this series come out may have dashed what little hope I had left.

RIP Monty Oum. You created a truly unique series that I grew to love and enjoy.
