Sorry, I submit a discussion about the wrong anime (Horimiya and not Toradora) πŸ˜‚. 
So, I try again with the good anime. 
Did you notice that "Ryu" from Ryuji means "dragon" in Japanese and that "Taïga" is prononced like "tiger" in English ? 

Alexioos95, you said that was explicitly said in the anime but you wasn't sure... Me too 🀣🀣. I don't remember if that was said in the anime but even if it was said, I notice that myself lmaoπŸ˜‚.

I guess it’s pretty pointless to answer but just like other said, they say it in the anime so multiple time and it’s even used as a gag. Also, you can either read their name (Ryuuji) or use common sense (Taiga).

But yeah, you can’t miss it if you paid attention to the anime since they say it.

Tora = Tiger ('Taiga')
Dora = Similar to 'dragon' (Ryu = Dragon)

Toradora = Tiger and Dragon

No, they said in the anime that Ryuji and taiga are describe like a dragon and a tiger but they didn't explain the signification of their name. Do you understand the difference ?
