Ao no Orchestra's been great in many ways. Its biggest strength lies in how the characters are fleshed out. It helped me root for Tachibana even though she's quite the grumpy one.

Nonetheless, I've been pretty disappointed at how the rehearsals are portrayed. As an orchestral violinist myself, much of my rehearsal time spent with the orchestra is focused on playing in a way that meets the conductor's interpretations. While there were snippets of that at some point in the anime, most of the rehearsal screen time was spent just having the orchestra playing the same parts over and over again without conductor feedback. That, honestly, is a tell-tale sign of a bad conductor.

I'm currently at Episode 11, so feel free to tell me whether that changes over time. I just think that integrating an introduction to musical interpretation would make Ao no Orchestra that much better than it already is.

It does change over time. Episode 12 is their audition to be in the active orchestra for a performance and then the rehearsals change. I don't have any personal experience in it myself to know if its accurate, but the conductor gets serious about practice after that. This show just seems to be slow paced compared to other music anime I've seen.
