I've recently decided that in my future Kendo career I'd like to practice this style. The sensei and senpai I have asked all tell me I should probably wait until I am at least Shodan or Nidan, so this is more of a long term thing when I look at it.

Still, I'd like to add a bit of related waza/whatnot to my practice at home. You guys have any recommendation in terms of multimedia material? Before you chew me up for thinking I could learn with videos and books, I'd just like a better idea of what I might be getting myself into. Since I am still mudansha out of courtesy and sensibility I'm not going to even think of bringing this to the dojo yet.

A few resources I've been pointed to so far:
http://www.xmission.com/~miik/nito/
http://www.e-bogu.com/KENDO_PRINCIPLES_NITO_RYU_SET_p/ebo-pub-vid-kpnitoset-.htm - Oh lawd, that's like almost a quarter of my pay per period.

I thought about nito but i gave up on this idea, when i asked my senseis they said "train your arm and hands first" or something like that... you will need much more strength to control swords... after all you keep it in one hand
so maby first try some exercise to make your grip stronger to prevent someone from snatching away your shinai...
If you think that is not essential read some books and search answear there... books wont learn you how to fight but only how to prepare for some syrious training.
You've got some crazy ideas but that's good! You've got my blessing xD
nito is realy rare... hope you will make it (one or two nito players in mah country, wini corect me if i'm wrong)

Thanks for the input. I think I'll add strength training to my curriculum :V
I bought the maximum lengths for Daito and Shoto (37 for the daito) and damn, is it different swinging with one hand. I guess it takes more to be jodan and nito.
I have one sempai doing each of the styles, so maybe I'll approach my nito senpai after practice next time.

EDIT: He told me to get a suburi-to and practice regular two handed suburi with it for a while. Bought a short one to swing inside (set me back $50 ;_;), but the damn this is HEAVY.

I started playing around with nito just a while ago.. and damn it is fun :)
But like you TheWanderingEye my senpai told me to wait for a real start until shodan which is if everything wents this way only 2 years away :)

Until then I really enjoy playing around after regular practice and my senpai yelling "Raise your damn left arm you pansy!" ^_^
