Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Frieren, solid 8/10 anime. The fight scenes were better than most shonen and the art and atmosphere is indeed quite above average, but like I really do not see the point of continuing a series like this (or most anime that get multiple seasons)

In the late 2000s and early to 2010s (when most of my favorite anime came from) this was quite unheard of. Lots of shows from then were quite good and were amazing, but what made them work is they only had like 2 cours total and they were done and never continued, but it is kind of what made them special.

I feel like this show and many other continuations from the past 5 or so years are kind of unnecessary, not even thing that was popular when it aired needs a sequel.

The only new anime I personally think that deserves to be continued and continued is Re:zero. Rezero will set the standard for all these anime, I honestly don't think it would be too far off to say Frieren, and many of you other favorite anime took inspiration from Rezero's amazing story telling and ultimate perfection in its crafting of characters and world building and just everything that makes a perfect story.

I'm not trying to bash Frieren or any other anime, i get that if I only want to watch Rezero i can stick to that. But I really do think Rezero truly is the greatest anime and is the most deserving of all these sequels.

And shows like Frieren and many other anime (that most liekly took inspiration from Rezero) that will be getting sequel after sequel, should only stick with having 1 or 2 cours just like the 2000s and Early 2010s.

What do you think?

"Honestly, what is the point?"
The manga is continuing, Frieren didn't achieve her goal, simple as that.

From a production perspective, it's bound to be profitable, like the first season.

Frieren and Re:Zero mentioned in the same forum post and it's not by him...

Frieren isnt a Slice of life or a romcom thats putting out sequels which wouldnt be needed, its got a plot and a story arc and it will keep publishing untill the story that the author wants to tell ends. And please, re:zero is far from being a perfect anime ✋🏻 AND Frieren isnt inspired from re:zero, stop living in your delusions.

I think you should stop watching altogether. The show didnt even explore much of its past lore.

If you want incomplete stories, just stay there. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS THREAD? Is the better question.

You created a paragraph for a show you have no interest in continuing and what do you expect exactly?

Do you feel superior cos you are different?

I think you're talking absolute nonsense.

What's the point? Well, Season 1 was pretty good and we want to see how the Story continues. That's pretty much it, boy.
You call it unnecessary. We call it the logical nex step, when there's demand for a second season.

i think that this is one of the worst takes i ever heard in my life. anime from the period you speak of and unfortunately, many anime to this day, being one season long isn't what makes these shows special, it's what makes them woefully incomplete and a glorified advertisement to the source material, rather than an actual (ongoing or full) adaptation, that respects both the source material and anime only fans.

not sure what you're on about regarding re zero either, it's cool that you like it so much, but why would that make it the only anime "deserving" of sequels, that makes absolutely no sense, multiple series can be supported for the long haul at the same time, by different studios, staff and so on.

if you want to spread your love for re zero then feel free to do a series thread or write a review or whatever, but this take is nonsensical, many people that are not you clearly want more from frieren after seeing the first season, that is more than enough of a point.

You are bashing every other anime is that not Re:Zero, calling them copycats.

Instead of writing all that, just write, “I am biased for Re:Zero”, that’s basically what you admitted.

Pointless post 🤦🏻‍♂️
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Don't get me wrong, Rezero is a great show. But you paint it as being the godfather of all anime.

I'd argue it's not even the godfather of isekai. I think, while great, that most isekai will copy the tropes from MT in that regard.

But that's a discussion for another time.

Don't ask your existential questions here bud. I understand that you don't see the point to lots of things, but that's more like a you problem.

Basically, you have yet to give a reason as for why re zero is apt for a long, extensive story that requires multiple sequels and Frieren isn't, other than YOU don't see the point.

Also please indicate which 2000's shows you like are not more than 24 episodes. I'll give you equally acclaimed shows that are. (Including one you have in your favs, Full Metal Alchemist)

You cannot be more wrong. The bigger, more acknowledged titles were long running shows, even more than hundreds of episodes long.
Inuyasha, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Pokemon, Detective Conan, Sailor Moon etc.

In reality the difference is only the format. Nowadays shows are split into seasons while back then they usually aired them continuously.
There are several reasons for that, e.g. profitability, but maintaining high quality animation is also harder today.

PS. Frieren is easily better than Re:Zero.

What's with that recent obsession of some Re:Zero fans feeling the urge to nitpick about random things regarding Sousou no Frieren? 🤔

The story is far from finished, Season 1 was very popular and successful... It's normal that people expect another season, and it's normal that the sequel season was eventually announced, lol. It'd be weird if it wasn't, or if an animated show faithful to the manga had to conclude with, let's say, an anime original ending (like happened to some anime in the past, decades ago), instead of just letting the story continue in the anime format.

This gotta be rage bait or trolling because this is the dumbest thing i have read on this app so far. What is so special about unfinished animes? The Unfinished anime thing is known to be the most annoying thing to anyone to anime fans, i don’t know how you came up with that dumb idea.

Now about Frieren, Frieren is an adventure anime its not a romcom and as long as the adventures continue and people like them there is nothing stopping the studio from making sequels and its not like frieren’s story is finished, she didn’t even achieve her goal yet. I hate when people try to undermine an anime just because it’s not their favorite smh.

It’s obvious that you’re trying to make controversies to get people mad and oh god its working.

I’m not really seeing what you have against them being continued though. Other than you don’t see the point and that not being continued is “special”? Why don’t you see the point? It’s just enjoyable entertainment. That’s sort of the whole point of any entertainment. To entertain. So make more of it? For something like Frieren, it’s clearly loved so why wouldn’t they make more of it.

If anything is the problem it’s the industry’s over-reliance on manga and ln as source materials.

Even with common second seasons very few shows actually reach the end of their stories simply because there’s too much stuff to cover.

I don’t understand how stories being left incomplete makes them feel more special. It’s just an imperfect rendition of the source material then.

What a weird post. Probably many of these 1 or 2 cour shows that you’re so nostalgic for adapted their entire source material. The other alternative is that they never got picked up for more seasons due to not being popular, thus never finishing their stories.

Frieren, and multitudes of other anime, are adapting longer stories and therefore need more seasons to do so. I’m not sure what is so difficult to understand about that?
