so confused which chapters are included in this entry

from research astro boy has a lot of chapters from different runs and stuff. some were released through different magazines and such.
along with this entry there is another entry called astro boy special.

the 2 entries total 22 volumes and 98 chapters. however by my count there are 23 volumes with 116 chapters.

so just wondering what chapters are included and if other entries will be created for the other chapters

personally i would have it

astro boy with 18 volumes 73 chapters
astro boy chronicles with 3 volumes 17 chapters
astro boy special with 2 volumes 25 chapters
birth of astro boy with ? volumes 1 chapter

but if anyone is more knowledgable let me know

Astro Boy Special should be 2 volumes. 21+2=23. I don't know how the chapters are counted. I also don't know why the database combines Chronicles with the main manga but gives Special its own entry.

The mal entry is always based on 1 Japanese edition. Then the confusion begins when there has been multiple different editions which have collected and combined chapters in all kinds of way. The English edition by Dark Horse has basically collected almost all the the chapters. 21+2 volumes.

thats where my confusions comes from.

the dark horse release has 113 chapters in it. ignoring the 2 lost chapters chitan and jungle devil boundary and then some stuff here and there that is almost the majority of it.

however the mal entries only total 98 chapters which is 15 shy of the chapters released in this japanese edition.
ik that if i read the whole manga i can check it off but there will also be 15 unattributed chapters.

Chapter counts never make sense. I've read several titles with chapters that don't match what's listed on MAL. I simply ignore the discrepancies.

It seems that the 98 ch count skips the "Once upon time" chapter splits. Which total 15.

The chapter count is indeed confusing, I'm gonna quote myself on this
