So I've seen this be something people complain about, saying the lack of seemingly any kind of government structure in this show is a problem. I suppose I can understand the argument: "This is so unrealistic, the cops would show up. My suspension of disbelief is broken." And that's fair. To which I would maybe cynically reply that you're probably not very fun at parties, but that's okay and allowed as well I suppose.

In my view, this show is primarily about empathy, and specifically its role at a societal level. Bofurin uses their strength to protect, not for their own gain. Their strength comes from their unity, which is fostered and taught by respected leaders. Unlike their rivals, they understand that survival is a group effort, not a competition. The top dog is a gardener, for fuck's sake. It's not a metaphor, it's a sledgehammer. The message is "if you foster empathy and cooperation, you will be the heroes".

Now I've not read the manga and for all I know it's revealed that there was an apocalypse or something; but putting a bunch of violent boys into a position of power through violence, and then them using that power to kick toxic masculinity in the balls, is a neat fantasy concept. This thing is like Gay Anarchist Star Trek. Oh, hey, I think I figured out why it's so divisive.

Anyway, my argument is that the lack of government is not a flaw, it's a necessary part of the underlying metaphor of the show. While I agree teenage boys resolving political disputes with fistfights is a poor base for a government, it is an easy-to-understand allegory for how the underlying values of individual leaders and how they propagate those values can shape a society.

It's basically a less worse cringefest than Ass Revenger. Animations in S1 were sweet. There's nothing more to say.

Fuck cops, where are teachers and why their school looks like it's been abandoned for a few years and is ruled by nice hooligans XD

fr thats the actual mystery. at the beginning of the anime they spoke about furin like it was an actual school that he was moving to yet there is seemingly no teachers or even lessons taking place.

It is an actual school that functions as a school (though it's poor quality in terms of education), but that's just not shown because it isn't necessary for the story being told. They've briefly alluded to the fact that the patrolling and Furin activities happens after classes end. It just isn't about their high school life. They just happen to be in a wholesome gang that was formed from within this school, but if the gang had been formed elsewhere I doubt they would ever mention their high school experiences.

@amentet Yeah, but they could at least show the teacher once or a few time, or pretend that the bell is ringing for the lesson. One scene like that would be enough, but I feel like every time they show this school the studio only emphasizes how abandoned it is. Walls overgrown with plants, close-ups on graffiti inside as if vandals had their daily exercise there, zero adults. Students literally do whatever they want. They argue, fight, and are picked on in front of school by other hooligans.Even Tokyo Revengers, which is terrible in many respects, managed to show that hooligans go to class and study normally there. I know that the anime focuses on something else but it looks funny because it often has scenes at school

its a fantasy show. power fantasy, friendship-power fantasy, beating the bad guys and emerging victorious fantasy, hero fantasy, saviour of the town, protector of the weak fantasy. it doesn't have any plot, people watch for the fights and for the dopamine you get after the good guy makes a comeback and beats the bad guy to pulp, that satisfaction we get after that is what keeps this anime afloat. you will get nowhere analysing this anime deeply, its not worth it. turn off your brain and watch it. you will have a blast. i know i do.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.
Feeling half happy, half sad.

The government is the least of the problems, the plot of this has several other errors

I think most characters act as the city's unofficial police. I know it sounds preposterous, but remember, they are outcast students from normal society (where there are government and law).

@TsutanaiFuun Once your brain is turned on, these unanswered questions continue to nag you throughout the show. Let's be honest, without the animation this show would be pure garbage and there are better shows if you want to see the good defeat the bad.
