So yeah, it seems the way they want to defeat that monster is to seal it away rather than killing it. Not even surprised since it may as well be the strongest monster that showed up this season.

Hell of an episode, Nube truly is a beast when he goes all out. Episode felt like a mini movie imo.

This was epic af! How Nube defeated the monster at the end hit different making it darker and insane than the original. Also Tamamo coming to the rescue and slowly becoming Nube's ally, I'm excited for more in the future when cour 3 happens.

@Stark700 EXACTLY!!! And how Tamamo and Nube teamed up to stop it made the episode exciting and showing we are up for more in the future between them.

I love when everyone is working together, Nube and his students... no, the more correct term would be Nube & Tamamo and their students!

Is it so bad getting praised for a good deed? I'd like to think this will change Tamamo for the better.

So the key to defeating the nutting fish monster was to remove it from the fog and expose it to the sun, sounds simple enough but in practice it proved to be very difficult, but it resulted in a lot of badass Nube moments, animation went very hard many times throughout the episode, when those kids are in trouble Nube locks tf in, this time it could’ve been especially bad with several kids doomed to die unless the fish gets defeated. Also good on Tamamo for helping Nube here, the scene where the kids begged Tamamo was quite emotional ngl, so even the seemingly heartless fox man can be moved, I really liked his development here, I hope this is the start of the path to becoming a good guy for him.

And finally, with the help of Tamamo and the kids, Nube did the damn thing and torched that fish, a very satisfying win after all the pain it caused, I think Nube has earned at least three dates with Ritsuko for this one. And thankfully we aren’t done yet, we have one episode left of this cour according to MAL, it’s gonna be hard to top this episode but hopefully it’ll still be a good stopping point for now.

@TheColonel76 If we're only getting this and the 2nd cour in Winter 2026, then I feel like we're going to lead into the big plots that show up later, though there's a big gap in any available scans of the manga, which feels like we'll never get anything officially available, Shueisha and Viz by association are just sitting on a gold mine, though they're already struggling at times anyway, especially with MHA wrapping up by Spring 2026, all they have is Vigilantes there, plus whenever we get back to Boruto, Black Clover and Bleach TYBW. They've at least got some staying power, but...

@holdingnothing A shame about the unavailability of the manga, I’m more of an anime guy myself but I think they should definitely make those available if they can. Cool to hear we’ll probably get some more big plot stuff in the next cour too, this fish arc has shown it can get pretty serious so if it’s anything like this, it should be a good time, although I’m a fan of the episodic stuff too, I’ve liked just about everything from Hell Teacher so far.

The sight of the baby spirit fish hatching out of the students' backs was ...less than pleasant. Nube looked extra awesome in action though.

Is Tamamo officially an anti-hero now?

@TheColonel76 There are probably several other manga that have gotten adaptations, even recently, that I don't believe are available in English and the existence of the anime may, contrary to what we might think, actually discourage translating the manga when there's something that's more easily available. But that also involves decisions for whoever owns the copyright and such for distribution. Viz originally had Shaman King and I think something else, but now they're distributed by Kodansha USA. Who I think also picked up the license for the Rave Master manga that Tokyopop had

The fish thing was 2 chapters, 4 if you count I believe a 2 parter prior that introduced Tamamo as a student teacher, though he does eventually come back as a doctor, though I'm not sure if even a variant plot with the kids' health exams was involved. A character that can not only use illusions, but is also older than the entirety of a whole class or two of elementary school students and the teacher does make it easy for him to falsify and otherwise pass himself off as just some person who's really talented and attractive

From what I can gather, I'd think we'll have less stuff that feels episodic if they're doing even the barebones of the plot that ties into Nube's Demon Hand. The opening theme teased stuff that may have been adapted in the original, but the original manga barely had gotten to the point, the 90s series was a lot of episodic stuff, not unlike what I think Sailor Moon had to do, because the manga was monthly and thus they only had so much core material they could adapt. Which I learned did not include the infamous crucifixion scenes in the 3rd and final seasons, those were supposedly added for the anime, because it was required to expand on things anyway. It's minor, but interesting to learn that it wasn't in the original, unlike, say, the crucifixion that was definitely in the Naruto manga with Itachi's Mangekyou Sharingan Tsukuyomi when he used it on Kakashi. They cut off the top of the cross in the anime version, but it's there in the manga, chapter 142

Nube facing trouble against the Remugyo, it makes the monster-of-the-week stories so far look like a puny enemy in comparison. In contrast, it's not just its spirit manifestation, but its fish eggs which absorb the nutrients of its hosts, as Tamamo puts it, will completely eat up the students if the spirit monster is not eliminated with its fog before sunset.

Instead, Hiroshi looking up to Tamamo to provide help to Nube, who's having a hard time dealing with the Remugyo, it's only with the collective spirit of the students that he's forced to take drastic measures. And Nube thinking that he had the perfect setup to capture the fish spirit with the net he set up, it's a shame that it woke up before he could do anything. It's only with the power of Nakama friendship in both low and high places that has Nube, Tamamo and the students finally bring it out of its fog for the exorcist himself to eliminate it.

The secret of Nube's power...certainly lies with his time spent with his students well enough, classic teamwork.

So that's his secret power. Hopefully that fox can be in good teams now :)

Nube the goat. This had some cool action moments. Also had a feeling they were gonna turn Tamamo good, whatever.
