Looks like it's gonna be a 'giant killing', if ETU beats a top team like Nagoya.

Lol'ed at Pepe. He's like a kid. But gotta admit, those were mad skills with the ball xD.

I hate these climax building episodes, it's like waiting for the world cup to start. Give us the next episode now!

Very enjoyable episode. Interesting to contrast the positive signs we've seen the last couple of episodes among the players on the team vs. the increasingly negative perception of the team by everyone else. Setting things up nicely for some Giant Killing.

Great conversation between Murakoshi and Tsubaki. Can't wait to see this translate on the field. Also interesting article by the freelance reporter. Even with heavy doubt, she penned a bold article. While I want to see the action on the field as much as anyone, it's still nice to see some of the focus on the people outside of the team, like the reporter and the GM, who have essentially entrusted their very livelihoods to Tatsumi. I don't think it's time wasted at all.

Really makes you anticipate the next episode. Nagoya's all the more memorable to me because our manager came from Nagoya Grampus to manage Arsenal. He won two cups with them from 1995-1996. And weirdly he never drew a match there.

I like those smiles Tsubaki, Tatsumi!

I think the strategy will be provoking the Nagoya dude who was or thinks he should be the star of the team. The crack between him/team and the 3 Brazilian players is obvious. If Nagoya has an internal struggle, ETU will win for sure. Knock 'em dead guys!

Alright! There! Can you see why I love this anime so much? Man the realism is so overwhelming that I can actually feel that ETU is real!!! I can really feel the world running out there! Amazing chapter! And finally we know who's Pepe! and he's not alone

Those three are really a thing ne? I love Nagoya's Coach thinking, and actually makes sense, but obviously that's not what's football made of! Of course, like Tatsumi said it's all about spirits, skills and will! That's what it makes a Low-class Dust-like Team completely defeat a magnificent High Profile Transatlantic Ship-like Team.... The Brazilians are really interesting, to bad they're not completely joined to the team... it's obvious that they do whatever the want.... Brazilians on a J1 Team? Sure... but National Player lever ones? Dunno... but hey they realy deserved to form par of the Brazilian's National Team since thee three have that wicked skills... XD

And so the Media, the Fans (or so called fans like Shige concluded) and even the Vice-Chairman are reaching their limit... And so the ones that are craving for a ETU win... Everyone is at their limit.... Meanwhile Tatsumi still dun gives a damn and leeps on doing what he believe is the best... is it really the best? It is! I'm sure they'll win... I hope so... and I hope that Tsubaki finally understand why he carries the number he's carrying on the back... Why he's one of Tatsumi's favorites...

I'm sure these words is result of Bad translations from CR's
But Brazilians nat team often pick some player from asian league on their 30-50 draft player list. and some top player like Hulk have been play on japan before. So I don't think that part is unrealistic.

Btw for episode comment : What a details, geez.. I'm really enjoying the off-field part on this series.

Not when they were young and kicking though. Japan is like the USA and Saudi Arabia to Euro and South American players : a place to end up your career when you're past your prime while cashing huge money, nothing more.

Regarding the episode in itself, it was quite good overall but I found the first part extremely boring. Fortunately, there was the preparation for the Nagoya match and the introduction of the Brazilians to liven up the ep a bit.

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

Built up episode but it was really exciting. Can't wait for the match. I want to see what his going to do to stop the Brazilians. Hopefully we might see some real football formations too.

Now am off to go play some football manager. I got an appetite for it after this. Wow! world cup is closing too.

This. ;)

Still, something might have been lost in translation. But then again, no matter how much effort they put into making this realistic it's still a Japanese anime. Besides, it wouldn't have been fun to watch otherwise. :D

it amazes me that for a japanese league team, most of the team's success comes from three brazilian players
the only way to stop a gamer from playing is either: beat them, or wait until they get bored (though 2% percent suffer seizures

That happens in most teams anyway, I mean, the fact that the best players of the team are foreigners. (See Inter, or in a lesser way, Barcelona and Real Madrid).

That being said, holy shit, the world cup and giant killing at the same time? I hope my body can take it.

Oh man, what an atrocious dubbling of the brazilian players. They talked like completely morons! It was also ridiculous the way they were acting just before the match. It was so unreal and unnatural... I´m quite disappointed with the show. Hope it´ll get better in the next episodes.

It's still quite possible for those Brazilian players to be capped (hence being "national team players"), but against relatively weak opposition during international friendlies. Like Brazil v. UAE for example. And aren't there current young Brazilian players in the J.League anyway? Incentives and cash bonuses can bring a Brazilian or three from their home country to Japan. Although there are weird types like Robinho who is apparently "homesick" nowadays.

I'm already playing FM for most of my spare time lol. Although it's only FM 2009, I'm in 2037 now. One of my feeder clubs is Osaka AC (not it's real team name of course, Konami apparently has exclusive rights to the J. League, even EA Sports - which has the official FIFA games - doesn't). There are also two first team players in my Arsenal squad that are Japanese, Shigeki Hosogai and Tomoyuki Kobayashi.

agree. but surprised me that they used the brazillian portuguese, not the european "version"(the foreigner's dubbing of GK is really good at all). and it's a cliche that brazillian soccer/football players acts the way they did.

Usually i don't mind characters acting like little kids despite their age. However, in a serious show like this it is understandable how ridiculous that was. At the same time though it makes the situation more noticeable; The stupid foreigners are taking over the team while not actually being a part of it.
Off topic that scarily sounds like something my parents would say, substituting the world team for town.

I have to say, compared to One Outs (yes, I know they're different sports) - Giant Killing is doing a much better job at keeping up a good pace.

One Outs spent a lot of episodes on 1 game, where as Giant Killing looks like it'll be able to cover a whole season properly, and still keep it suspenseful!

This match will be the perfect one for them to make their turn around victory. It's pretty- obvious they will win for a bunch of reasons:
-Tutsumi has done his research
-he is going to get sacked soon and the skulls are getting really pissed
-he is beginning to look more "lively"
-the reporters are counting on him
-nearly all internal conflicts, including Tsubaki's, have been resolved
-It got into detail about their opponents, and they are a "giant"
-It specifically showed the characteristics and personalites of the three foreigners.
-Defeating an ex-manager will help unify the team in showing that Tutsumi's unconventional ways work better than simply hiring new foreign players.
