Episode gave Shiki a responsiblity for this investigation. Interesting as this tested both his physical and mental skills. They really wanted him to truly master his abilities.

Masumi also continues to show his intelligence. Shiki's revenge story has cooled down somewhat but this feels like it still pushes him to be even better.

Another nothing-burger episode.

The Shiki/Mikado "dramatic schism" doesn't make any sense.
The show acts like these two are old childhood BFFs that just discovered some dark secret about eachothers past and now their long friendship is comin crashing down.
In reality though they've known each other for about a day, so the whole thing just comes across as forced and stupid...

I also love how being able to stand in a fully engulfed room without getting burned (and be able to breath) now seems to be a power shared between ALL Oni and Momotaro. πŸ™„
(And that goon who keept driving instead of just you know... breaking, was the icing on the cake.)

The poor writing in this show never ceases to entertain.

Don't care about the "we was friends for 5 minutes" dynamic. They try to sell me the pathos, but it's just not there. Meh.

The confrontation between Shiki and Mikado finally happened, and it's honestly sad to see.
Mikado must feel really betrayed and conflicted, especially considering that "Shiki" used him to kill a lot of people (which we know it's not true). Honestly, such a kind person didn't deserve that, and I hope Shinya pays for all the crimes he has been doing, like killing all those people, including the group that was helping him out (I don't know if he isn't worse than Tsubakiri honestly, at least Tsubakiri didn't kill humans apparentaly). I still think that deep down, Mikado still wanted this to not be true, since he really didn't want to kill Shiki, so I think there's hope that these 2 can clear out this misunderstanding.

It seems next episodes are going to heat up with the fight scenes. Mudano spoke the truth when he said that Shiki needed to show that he is strong to be heard, that's also what really happens in reality. And I hope Shiki is able to make Mikado hear him out.
I'm also expecting Shiki's classmates to start appearing more now, since they have barely appeared in the last couple of episodes. And it seems Jin isn't appearing until the end now.

I ended finding this confrontation really satisfying, because it was well planned, and they gave it time so that it made sense and seemed natural, considering the instances of the characters. They were building this up ever since they introduces Mikado, and it was well executed in my opinion.

I'm really excited for next week's episode! This arc has certainly be a upgrade from the last one!

Edit:
The harshest shot of the episode

I don’t understand how people defend this show, it’s written so poorly:
Framing Shiki to manipulate Mikado… there was absolutely nothing about that scene that you could get the wrong impression from.
And Oni fighting Momotaro to get a seat at the table, how stupid is that, how is one supposed to negotiate with a racist criminal group who are all complete morons?

What exactly did Shiki do other than lie about his identity? This makes no sense, yeah the writing here is subpar at best. At least I hope for some action next week, not satisfied with this, & I'm usually very patient.

They're never going to be powerful enough to completely eradicate the Mikado, a peace treaty is the only option and that isn't happening if they're too weak to fight back

@OrielBel it wasn’t even a good framing, it was all circumstantial evidence and he could plainly see at that gang fire that Shiki had nothing to do with it

“I thought we were friends” actually hurt me. We knew that confrontation was coming, but man the genuine disappointment in Mikado’s voice hurt to hear. It’s not even an anger at the “betrayal” just a feeling of sheer let down and realizing someone isn’t who you thought they were

oof, poor writing for sure and the guys above that said why basically said it all for me.
what even is up with Mikado? your hate for the Oni as a whole didn't even allow you to hear your "friend" out. why? because he's an Oni.
and please someone should kill that Shinya bastard already ffs.
anyway, fights are coming so that's good.

Gee, Shinya. How come your mom lets you have two busted vision powers?

I knew the confrontation was going to be raw, but damn. If Mikado's as angry as he is now, I wonder how he's gonna take finding out who truly tied the puppetstrings on his back.

The scene with Mikado and Shiki is strangely staged. The first one literally screams at the top of his lungs, searching for survivors, and the second one arrives and makes a scene, claiming that the other is a criminal. Of the new characters in this story arc, Masamune seems more interesting than the villain.

This whole friendship thing reminds me of Gon and Kite from HxH cause how long did Mikado and Ichinose know each other? a few days? a week? and yet they act like they've known each other their whole life, actually they act like they've been best friends their whole life. Fuck off. Just show me a good fight before this season ends

They have meet literally only once and are acting as if their friendship lasted since childhood or something.
Seriously, the desperate attempt at forcing deep drama is not only not working out, but actually backfiring.

Pretty solid episode so far. I enjoy the set up.

I also love all the hypocritical responses here. Typical case of people just beating on it with 0 media literacy.
If the show did not do this, then they would moan that Mikado just turns on Shiki without any reason.
Now the show gives the reason, and they moan that the show just wasting time.
You really can't win over stupid.

ANYWAYS. Looking forward the next week episode. Hopefully they beat the shit out of the Momotaro here, except Mikado. Beside the 3 gives me really POS vibes.

It's funny. I just marathoned the last 6 or 7 episodes of this after taking October and most of November off for other reasons, and while I think the ideas going around in this arc aren't exactly terrible, the execution has been. Far too slow and drawn out. A momotaro tactician setting up a betrayal in friendship does require some buildup I grant you, but this was too much. It felt like barely anything happened and they STILL haven't started fighting yet. To say nothing of the pivotal friendship itself feeling underdeveloped. In hindsight, I kind of got lucky putting this on unofficial hold when I did because I can't imagine how grueling this slow as molasses pacing would have been had I watched this last batch of episodes weekly. Contrast this with the first large arc which I thought just threw everyone into the fire too quickly without enough proper buildup. This series through two lengthy arcs has somehow managed to have poor pacing in completely opposite ways imo which is...certainly something.

Also, this notion that the oni are trying to bring the momotaro to the peace talks table is interesting and probably the single most important piece of information we've received this arc so far. I question why we haven't gotten it sooner, but oh well. Maybe we have and I just forgot.

It's really dumb how they fo "no one will listen to Shiki because he's weak" crap.
It doesn't make any sense, Shiki is literally the super strong child of Kishin, that has all the Momotaro scared and nervous, and he's had the most impressive onscreen fighting record, he's beat like 3 Momotaro captains.

Tbh, I feel like we should’ve spent more time seeing Shiki and Mikado actually hang out more than once to actually feel something in this ep. The whole, “Oh yeah, your best friend is an Oni btw” came across as sudden and not very well executed. Mikado was just chillin in the Momotaro base with Shinya for half the arc, now all of a sudden he’s framing him for the murders of the gang members and breaking up their “friendship”. I just wanna see some fights now.

The problem isn’t media literacy. It’s the show itself not having any sort of proper build up or execution with its characters.

Thank god someone amongst the momotaro is smart enough to realize that tongue piercing guy is evil and extremely manipulative. I really wish purple guy would speak up tho.

This anime really drags on, y'know? Watching it was been a painful slow torture.

Both the Oni and the Momotaro are moving in the same direction, as is Shiki and Mikado finding themselves in quite the situation that works either way for Shinya having the two's confrontation work out in the first place. The "friends" part didn't matter thereafter having learnt the obscure truth, it's truly the end of the good and the arrival of the bad.

It's pretty much the exact ploy that Masumi can recite it at the top of his head, and Shiki still thinking that he can make amends with Mikado, it's not working out when their ego resides being the stronger of the two beings, and even worse if the Oni can't prove that they're equals to even ask for a consensus. Shiki really has been taken for a ride since coming into Nerima, and he essentially has to face reality before him of a war that will not end due to his simple non-killing belief.

With the Kanto Nuts Union gang rid of, thanks to Shinya's eye using Kougasaki as bait, he's just setting up the Nerima Momotaro for their long-fated confrontation, and it's the same for Masumi relying heavily on the Oni Academy's students to rout them out, before Nerima's Combat Unit is tasked for backup.

The stage is set, and there's no turning back...
