Winners of the 71st Shogakukan Manga Awards Announced

Shogakukan announced the winners of its annual manga awards on Wednesday.

Unmei no Makimodoshi ("All Great Achievements Require Time")
Fuuta Kimura's action manga has been serialized in the Monthly CoroCoro Comic magazine since January 2022. Shogakukan published its 11th compiled volume in December 2025. An anime adaptation produced by Bones Film with the English title Fate Rewinder was announced in 2025. Unmei no Makimodoshi was previously nominated for the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards.

Cosmos
Penned by Tamura Ryuuhei, the action sci-fi manga began serialization in the monthly Sunday Gene-X magazine in April 2023. Shogakukan released the series' seventh volume in September 2025. Cosmos ranked ninth in the Male Readers' category in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2025 rankings. The series has since 2024 been licensed in English by Viz Media and its chapters are published digitally alongside the Japanese release. The third compiled volume was released by Viz Media in November 2025.

Dandadan
The action manga written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu began its serialization in the Shounen Jump+ web magazine in April 2021. The series' 22nd volume was published by Shueisha in January 2026. Dandadan was adapted into two 12-episode television anime series produced by Science SARU, airing in Fall 2024 and Summer 2025, respectively. The series is set to receive a third anime adaptation in 2027. The manga ranked fourth in the Male Readers' category in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2022 rankings and was later nominated for the 15th edition of the Manga Taisho Awards. Viz Media licensed the manga in 2022, publishing the series' 16th compiled volume in North America in December 2025.

Dekin no Mogura (Dekin no Mogura: The Earthbound Mole)
Natsumi Eguchi's manga made its debut in the weekly Morning magazine in April 2021. Kodansha released the series' 11th compiled volume in August 2025. The series was adapted into a 12-episode television anime by Brain's Base, airing in Summer 2025. Dekin no Mogura is published in English by Kodansha through its K Manga service.

Hirayasumi
Keigo Shinzou's slice of life manga has been serialized in the weekly Big Comic Spirits magazine since April 2021. The series currently have nine compiled volumes released, with its latest volume released in July 2025. Hirayasumi was nominated for the 15th and 17th editions of the Manga Taisho Awards, while ranking 18th in the Male Readers' category in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2023 rankings. Shogakukan announced in 2025 that the series is set to receive an anime adaptation produced by Production +h.. In addition to the anime, it also received a live-action drama adaptation that aired in Fall 2025. The series was licensed by Viz Media in 2023. The publisher has since released a total of seven compiled volumes in English, with the latest volume released in November 2025.

Nominees for the annual award are announced by Shogakukan in December. Including the winners, the nominees for this year's award were Uchi no Inu ga Koneko Hiroimashita., Koiseyo Mayakashi Tenshi-domo, Jumbo Max, Hinokami-sama no Soujinin desu ga, Itsunomanika Hanayome toshite Dekiai sareteimasu, Hotaru no Yomeiri, and Mikadono Sanshimai wa Angai, Choroi..

Winners: Dandadan

So number of sales guarantee you a Shogakukan Manga Award now in Japan? So they have become like the west where the actual storytelling quality is an afterthought. Great, I will never trust this awards announcement again to find good manga to read.
