Animation fell hard at times throughout this episode. Some very poorly placed stills, as well. However, there were still quite a few lovely sequences of animation. The goddess is such an unfathomably annoying character. I can't wait until they go further into the mine without her, lol. I did like the dude who thinks he is a king. He cracked me up. I'm close to just giving up completely on the writing, but most everything else should stay entertaining enough.

I don't like how much of the dialogue between all the characters (especially Kivia) was cut short, definitely lost a lot of nuance there. Instead we get 9 mins of "introduction" that didn't even properly explain the world. I mean not that this original content was bad, but I feel it's not worth losing the characterization of characters like Kivia who imo is just as much the focus of the first few arcs/missions as Xylo.

What was that??

It was beautifully animated just like the first episode, and the first half was decent, but after the first fight in the caves, it stopped making sense. Why would extracting the captives lead to huge losses when one of them is right next to them? Shouldn't they just need to walk out of the cave at that point? Where are the other monsters that they're expecting to have to fight?

I'll give this show the three episode test. I want to like it, but the writing has just been pretty bad so far
@popa910 there are more of the survivors waaaay deeper in the mine.

@KingYoshi don't know how you think the animation was like that because the animation was still pretty good, not as high as episode 1 but at least on a baseline where the animation is pretty good for standard episode like this one

Good episode, we got more interesting lore about the world and a partial look into what civilization is currently looking like. As expected, people that were dooming over the episode quality were proven wrong. Despite the many action directors on the episode and the handful of second key animators. The quality only dipped very so slightly while still maintaining above average art, story telling, and animation.

Which picked up in the second half of the episode, the general movement and action sequences were on par to episode 1's. Which makes me think it might be similar to Wistoria in a sense where they save the super well animated sequences for the last half of the episode. (only episodes that don't have as much importance or action in them) so they're definitely spreading out their resources.

I can see why some would find this episode just 'okay' it's not a priority episode, more of a lore dump with character interactions than anything else with little fight scenes. It's a setup to the next episode which seems like will be a big one.

I hope I don't see any more people complaining about the animation quality or dooming over the upcoming episodes. It's clear that the anime is in great hands with a super confident production team, can't wait to for next weeks episode
@hypexleaks I really wasn't expecting all those super fluid character acting scenes from Xylo and Teoritta.

I find it funny how useless the holy knights look compared to the very same heroes that they look down upon.

The heroes get these bad ass magic weapons while the holy knights are left with regular spears lol.
@MightyHawk Only Norgalle has shown to possess advanced weapons so far, and he's a seal expert, meaning he's someone of value. The anime made that very clear, so pay attention.

Good ep

Nice to see Xylo with sum humanity despite hating them so much.

Teoritta and Kivia are still annoying asl.

Considering that Teoritta is going with the knights, how in the world will Xylo win by himself?

9/10

@karrotStick Cutting the scene of Kivia showing her poorly drawn map was a bad move, as that scene was important for the audience to sympathize with her. however, it's clear that the screenwriter wants to prolong Kivia's development, just as they are doing with the relationship between Xylo and Teoritta.

As for the original nine-minute introduction, I quite liked it. it showed more of the world and gave Xylo another reason to save the people inside the mine. However, I didn't like the change in Norgalle's introduction scene in the anime, in the light novel, his first appearance had a much greater impact.

Overall, it was a very good episode, and considering this isn't a priority episode, I'm eager to see how the animation will be in a priority episode.

By the way

A terrorist and… whatever Tatsuya is. You know, I’m starting to get why people are so racist toward heroes now. Tatsuya alone would justify it for me, ngl. Anyway yeah, new episode, new mission, and this time it’s nothing more than an obvious trap to capture Teoritta. Glad Xylo caught on to that quickly. Even that bitch, I mean, the knight from last episode who should’ve stayed dead is back to her usual antics.

Honestly though, Xylo has to stop being such a goody two-shoes and should’ve let Terrorist-kun “accidentally” kill them lol. So yeah, Xylo comes to this girl’s rescue once again, in the badass way he always does. Xylo's time again here, let's see him put these annoying pricks in their place hopefully.
@IzanaSolos Tatsuya is what happens when Inosuke and Petelgeuse have a weaponized baby that gets flinged at the enemy like a bomb by a militaristic teocratic fantasy regime.

Studio knew exactly what they where doing when they cast Yoshitsugu Matsuoka for this role. xD

Its so stereotypical how the knights are portrayed as totally useless.... Mangakas, it's ok to have capable characters aside from the main cast, specially antagonists
@PettankoLover I don't think it was mentioned in episode one, but Xylo is basically a super soldier. A lot of resources were poured into him to make him as strong as he is. Also, Tatsuya is a berserker who throws himself into combat. The holy knights are just ordinary soldiers that are typically outmatched by the faeries.

Animation tourists are gonna get filtered out real quick if the characters are not emoting and moving non stop like in KPop Demon Hunters lol.

For a revenge isekai, made by a studio of which you wouldn't have any expectation for them to make this show look and feel good, I am pleasantly surprised by how things are unfolding. This is an excellent appetizer for the king of the isekai genre, Mushoku Tensei, coming this spring season if i remember correctly.

Well done staff and studio working on this, well done!
@AdrianFTW99

Not trying to be "that guy", but from what we've seen so far, this isn't an isekai.
Xylo seems to be from this world - he's not teleported to or reincarnated into it.

No harm meant, it's just that people mistaking "fantasy" for "isekai" is a pet peeve of mine. ;)

Well, this episode didn't spend much time in exploring the setting of the anime, and Xylo is given right away another mission, a very questionable one at hand, since it seems impossible to complete, so what's the real reason for them doing this?

It seems Kivia is starting to wonder the true motives of her superiors too. I'm guessing she's ending up being an important character for the show, I thought that we wouldn't see much of her after the 1st episode, but she has already appeared in this one. Well, she did care about the civilians, and wanted to rescue them, so I'll give her points for that, but I won't forget how incompetent she was during last episode, and if not for Xylo, her whole army would be dead (even if she was following superior orders). But she does have the skills, since she killed quite abit of faeries.
By how things are going, I wonder if she'll be Xylo's romantic interest in the long run.

Anyways, those human faeries were disturbing, and it was even more disturbing the fact that they had to kill all of them.

I wonder what's the big scheme behind this mission.

Also, I didn't really understand what happened to Dotta. They said he was in the repair shop, but what did they truly mean by that?
We got to see 2 more Heroes, and honestly, they're both quite excentric, one has died so many times, he doesn't have properly a personality or sense of himself, and the other one has a delusion (and has commited terorism). Oh well, it is what is, and Xylo will have to work with that.

Also, we got to watch the opening, and the animation was pretty cool, but the song wasn't that amazing for me, it was good, but it didn't stand out that much for me. There are more memorable openings so far in this season, but let's see if this one grows in me.

Edit: Forgot to mention, but the animation quality for the anime continues really good, and the fight scenes were all cool to watch!

The hero who thinks he’s a king is surprisingly amusing. I wasn’t expecting him to be this entertaining, but his attitude makes for a fun contrast with everyone else.

Teoritta is definitely going to find some way to join Xylo’s mission. You can just tell she’s not the type to sit on the sidelines, and I’m really curious to see how she forces her way into the action.

@ChickenDan Episode 2 wasn't a priority episode, meaning the animation will focus on the priority episodes, which will most likely be episodes 3, 6, 8, 9/10, and 12. It will be spectacular, especially episodes 6 and 12, which will have animation quality as good as or better than episode 1.

Imagine calling the animation this episode "bad" when we just had OPM S3...

I found the animation for the most mundane of things (like the characters simply moving or talking) to be solid and fluid, and that puke was ... needlessly animated.

Alot of people need to start watching more actually mid shows again. Their perception of what's considered "bad animation" is really skewered...

First episode was just animation show off ok enough to keep the entertainment high, now despite the still good animation the show looks kinda bland, the first half they were trying to introduce some aspects of the world but it looked kinda rushed, as if they were trying to get to the action already, and the second half was just another battle with some useless side characters watching while the MC does his magic, I mean yeah, this show can work for some people but doesn't seem very convincing yet.

Also the goddess is really annoying, I'm not a hater of lolis but can't she shut up for a moment we're in a serious situation here.

Sentenced to be a Minecraft player.

A new mission right after the previous one, no rest for the 'criminals'. This episode is brutal, seeing those humans-turned-fairies– I wonder if the demon blight can only corrupt the living? (just assuming those humans were still alive by the moment of their corruption).

Fun little squad we have here and it's not even the full group from the OP yet! Already loving the 2 new members– His Majesty Norgalle is a funny guy, what's more is that he is the 'science/magic' guy lol. My goat Kirito Matsuoka Yoshitsugu with another screaming and broken character– Tatsuya, just how many times did he reincarnate to be in that state, though at least he's still tame outside of combat haha. Really curious with the backstory of the other heroes, wish the season is longer, fitting all those into 11 episodes just feel so lacking.

Xylo's really overprotective of Teoritta, well can't blame him after what happened before– but he would definitely need her to defeat the Demon King, unless them 3 are enough to do so.

Another good episode and Teoritta was cute again as well.

@Hanamaru__ You couldn't be more wrong.
the first 9 minutes of this episode were original to the anime, meaning the narrative is quite slow compared to the light novel. According to the light novel, episode 2 should begin with the scene where Xylo and Tatsuya are digging inside the tunnel.

After a little bit of a wait, we finally have episode 2, and on a Thursday which will be the norm going forward, very glad to be back watching this series again after that amazing first episode. And I guess I’ll start with the production first, I’m happy to say it’s still very consistently great, even some of the scenes where they were just talking were very fluid and beautiful, and it looks like the animators are focusing a lot on Teoritta especially, I can’t blame them because I’m loving her a lot too lol, she had a lot of great moments in this one. And that OP (I’m guessing) at the end was awesome, great visuals and an epic song, here’s to hoping it isn’t skipped often going forward.

About the contents of the episode, it didn’t take long and Xylo has already been thrusted into a new mission, this time involving going into the mines to stop a blight, and along with the new mission we got some new characters, the goofy yet skilled Norgalle, and the zombie-like Tatsuya who can still kick ass despite his far gone state, it’s cool seeing what happens to heroes who revive too many times but it does have me curious about the kind of person he was before he got to this point. Things seemed to be going as planned in the mines until the knights got attacked (nice to see Captain Kivia is still relevant), that was dealt with but then it was revealed that there are still civilians in the mines, it was cool of Xylo to take it upon himself to do a suicide mission to save them, but I feel bad for Teoritta being left behind, but I doubt things will go how Xylo wants them to so maybe we’ll see some Teoritta action despite how this one ended.

And lastly, I noticed a World War 2-looking tank during one of the early scenes of the episode, so did they have that technology at one point and lost it? I’m interested in what’s up with that.

@Aleksu If this season really follows the light novel closely, it won't be able to develop the other heroes. However, the anime is full of original content, so it's likely that the heroes will at least have many prominent scenes. As for their pasts, motivations, and stories, I think only a second season will reveal more about some of them.

@popa910
Hey, didn't you catch the anime? They're going deeper into the mine to look for possible survivors, of course the knight doesn't want to because it could cause great losses.
