Yeah they're probably using sacred seals for that.

@karrotStick but all the sacred seals seam to be runic writing on the object/body part doing it like how xylo has all those tattoos and norgalle wrights runes on stuff, given how no real explanation has been given for any of the system yet I presume that we will never get one so it really doesn't matter

I don't think it has anything to do with the sacred seals, but rather it's just a typical and common exaggerated representation of a certain characteristic.
This happens all the time in anime, it's something that has to do with good direction, not something that has a meaning beyond showing a certain characteristic in an unconventional or uncreative way.

Usually, when someone has this doubt, it means that person is a normie...😐

Edit: Yes, I was right.
It must be difficult for a frieren fan to watch an anime that doesn't throw the explanation in your face, treating the viewer like an idiot.

There’s nothing wrong with explaining things so the viewer/reader can understand.

@Desmascarado if it was consistent then it would be fine, if it was seals then have the runes like the rest, if it's just them having good eyesight why do both of them do the same weird circle of fingers round their eye thing and why do 2 people have the same better eyesight with no one else having anything similar like good hearing or something (if this happens later then fine it's solved but untill then it's weird). The other inconveniency is the seals that make them hero's not diminishing in effectiveness when underground since it was said they don't work as well without sunlight but I assume that one will get an explanation eventually.

The finger around the eye trick is something i've seen in other media, after a quick search it seems to be a little trick that works IRL :

The finger-around-eye zoom trick creates a "pinhole camera" effect, allowing you to see objects more clearly or magnified by limiting light entering your eye.

Beyond that, both Dotta and Tsav are described as generationnal geniuses, so maybe they have vision seal, or maybe they just have cracked eyesight.

@Ragon_Qc thanks, if the weirdness of it is normal in other places than that's probably the answer

@Kookieburra Honestly, I don't know how to answer your question. Are you saying that two characters having good vision is a flaw until an explanation is given for why they have good vision...? Really...?
Regarding the storyboard of scenes where the characters demonstrate to the viewer that they have good vision, I already explained that in my first comment, but if you want a more direct answer, I would say that it's done that way because it's cool.

Regarding the "sacred seals losing effectiveness," that's incorrect. Sacred seals are like batteries that charge with sunlight, they don't lose effectiveness at night, but rather their stored energy runs out. This is why all the battles have been at night.

@Kookieburra it quite literally said that Tsav’s sight is inhuman not long after he did such, since Kivia asked about it. I’d assume it has something to do with both Dotta and Tsav being rather gifted, or them both just having really good eyesight while using a scientifically based method
