It is a very popular TV series, adapting an even more popular light novels series (who even received a US publication) and featuring Hayashibara as the main voice at her career's peak. It got all the fanfare of well-known brands: a few years on TV including a whole original series (not based on books), annual movies and several OAVs, plus a revival show in the 2000s. The novels even got an exposition hall for the anniversary in 2016or17. It sold also well among anime consumers here, during the sub-only VHS era. (We even got late (approx.2005+) TV broadcasts of it on children hours in France.) |
| Lina... Dragon Slave would’ve worked, but that’s a bit overkill, isn’t it? As soon as Gourry pulled a hilt without a blade, I knew. I’m already a little familiar with the Sword of Light thanks to the movies. That’s really interesting! Now I know exactly who Gourry is. “A family treasure”, he says. Haha, I guess it would be. @Rei366: I know it was very popular in its time, but I don’t think Slayers is that well known these days. Cellar’s reaction isn’t that unusual. |
| Zolf and Rodimus didn't seem like bad guys to begin with, so it's cool to have them on board. Also nice to see Gourry kicking some ass. |

| That abandoned town was a perfect battleground. Zolf might be third rate by Lina's standard but he's friggin brutal! Lightsaber! ^_^ Sorry couldn't help it but pulling out the Sword of Light was just that badass. |

| Zolf and the other dude never looked like villains to me, so their loyalty to Zel wasn't surprising. The sword of light was though, Gourry is stronger than one would think. |
