Fuck he's one of the most obnoxious twats I've ever come across.

Is this intentional?

And the fact that he's voiced by Matsuoka makes him even more annoying than he's supposed to be

I expected that the MC would be similar to Keima from TWGOK. Turns out I was completely wrong.

I agree. I know he is suposed to be a twat since he is a otaku but that does not stop him from being annoying as hell.

What is the point of his characterization? Is it just to make the male otaku fanbase feel good by letting them fantasize about being around attractive girls all the time without possessing any redeeming positive qualities of their own?

Oh shit, that's all harems.

He doesn't even do his job as a director properly. All he's been doing is leeching of his circle's skills and ranting over how things should be without doing them himself. Everything he acts on is according to his mood and it cringes me.

If it weren't for Michiru I would've dropped this show ages ago (who has less screentime than Kato I kid you not).

it's very much intentional. He is an anti-social otaku who doesn't know how to (or care to) deal with actual people, cranked up a notch by his seemingly energized behavior. Adding to that, Kato is only a canvas to work his 2d thoughts on.

If i could take a guess, every time he opens his mouth to rant at how kato needs to be a better waifu, it's also to bring attention to how creepy anime ideals and tropes are irl or something.

Just because something is intentional does not mean it was a good idea, nor does it mean that their intention was properly executed.

Mr. Ethical is a douchebag simply because he refuses to embrace the perfection that is Utaha-senpai. lol.

While it's true that he voices his own opinions a little too strongly, at least he sticks with them and he is not afraid to let others know how he feels. You won't know for sure what the opposing party thinks of your opinions and isn't it better to show them rather than hide them out of politeness? If everyone hides their intentions, misunderstandings WILL happen.

He is total moron. This anime would be MUCH better if he played along with girls instead of rejecting them completely.

I can understand 2D love, but seriously, nobody rejects adorable otaku girl.

Oh my goodness, Tomoya is the lamest, most pathetic male character I've ever seen.

He's a delusional jackass, i'm on episode 4 and he doesn't want Katou to hang out with her cousin until their project is finished because he wants her to stay "pure." what!?!??!!?

Oh shit, that's all harems.

This is hilarious.

I actually enjoyed the show a lot, but it would be a lot better with some actual growth from Tomoya. Here's to a second season for that... or hopefully the light novels.

He is. Hearing him shouting with Hiraoka's voice made him much more worse.
The way he invited others to his circles also felt off. He was more like forcing and making selfish decision rather than persuading. Maybe just me? :/

Well, could be worse, I guess.. There are lot of other harem MC more douchebag than him, anyway.

you must be new to anime cause this is literally how every harem protagonist is..

I' guess all we can do is wait for a harem where the dude just bones all of them...

OH WAIT THEY ALREADY DID THAT, IT'S CALLED SCHOOL DAYS
The best anime is the Road to El Dorado

if you didn't find it funny about how he acts then you should've probably stopped watching these types of cartoons, then again everyone already shot arrows at you.

I actually liked him for having a decision instead of our usual dragalong protagonists. In many harem anime (like Haruhi) it's usually the main girls who initiate everything and the MC was just there to be slave and comments. I like Tomoya's genkiness.

Agreed he's a douchebag but kind of fun as he's quite energetic and shakes things up rather than waiting for the heroines to do all the work like in other harem animes.

Also thinking his attitude is intentionally giving light to how weird anime tropes would be in real life. I wonder if Kato or someone else will end up calling him on trying to force others into anime tropes.
