Great standalone piece (if the manga had never existed)?

Looking at it as a standalone piece, how do you feel about the anime?

As someone who never read the manga, I loved it. From all the threads I've read, I see that they pretty much took the source material, ripped out certain pages, and drew on the rest with a crayon.

Be that as it may, I think they turned it into a very enjoyable standalone piece - although I imagine the die-hard manga fans would have a hard time seeing it that way.

Do you think that would be fair to say? If you've read the manga and are going to reply, try to view it as if the manga never existed and look at it objectively. You're not going to be able to fully flesh out characters in a 12 episode series, so that's why you might see the pacing as rushed.

From what I understand, they changed the entire tone of it as well by not including a certain... event? Again, I see how that would impact (no pun intended) your view on it, but I don't think that makes it objectively bad - just completely different.

Thoughts?

I had read fuuka from when the first chapter came out. The only thing I found enjoyable about the anime was being able to hear the music. Has much as it killed me for fuuka to die in the manga in my opinion after having finished the manga it was a nessacary for them to kill fuuka akatsuki. As sad as it was I came to like the other fuuka and it gave you really good character development along with the other band members. But the thing that bothered me most about it was that since they did not follow the manga we wont be getting a second season, and I really wanted to hear their other songs and be able to see the whole manga animated.I feel the anime could have better conveyed the emotions in the manga. But since they didnt follow the manga we wont be getting to see more of it in an anime. Last for my personally I didn't like koyuki that much as a character so having her date yuu just went against how yuu felt about her in the source material. Sorry for rambling it's all just my opinion, everyone is free to like what they like. Although I will admit when I saw her live in the anime my feeling conflicted cause I was happy she lived but at the same time it ruined the story and no one can replace akatsuki but I came to like aoi.
