On the morning of the third day since Nio joined the Miburo, he encounters an unfamiliar boy named Tanaka Taro.

Though Nio is curious about Taro, who is of the same age, it’s revealed that Serizawa has killed a comrade.

I found stories involving shinsengumi to always have a gay vibe, and that's actually a compliment.

With that said, it's the group that just has too much power, and just like the proverb "Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Nio having to find that justice means to him. He's had a hard life so far being an orphan but he's still sheltered in many ways to the way the world works. Nio journeying outside his life with his grandma and sister seeing more of the brutality of this world, especially in Kyoto. Meeting all the other members was a cool scene. I like seeing all the different personalities expressing themselves. The impromptu sumo match was hilarious. Nio trying his best to fit in with this wild collection of samurai. While also seeing the dark side of life in Kyoto now. Killing dispensed by groups of people each with their own agendas and ideas of what's right. Wading through that to find your own idea of justice is hard to do. Nio is learning well from Hijikata, I like how he's taken the mentor role to Nio. They go out to find this group that killed that man on the bridge. Running into people just trying to get by which confusing Nio even more about who's good and good bad. Its not as black and white as he thought before. After consoling that girl Nio knows what he wants to fight for in this world.

I don't get why this has such a low score, this anime is great so far! The animation isn't top notch maybe, but it's not horrible either. The story is captivating and all the characters seem really likeable. Can't wait for next episode!

The emotional moments just ring hollow and don't make much sense. At the very least, they feel like they're many episodes too soon.

So Nio joined the Miburo "to make the world better" and now immediately starts questioning whether "they're the good guys?" Why is he wondering that already? Because he saw some low-life get cut down, with no context provided? He already knew the Miburo is a violent and feared organization when he joined up; he was in the middle of a swordfight last episode!

Yes, the topic in general makes for good drama and character depth, but it's strange to see this in Episode 2, especially when he didn't even do anything yet.

I was also rolling my eyes when he saved that little girl, shared his sad childhood and found his resolve (which he already had...? I don't see what changed this time around). It just felt so cheap, obligatory and awkward.

What a sumo wrestle it was!
I’ve also heard stories about Kondo Isami and Okita Soji before (see “Vinland Saga” manga, written by Makoto Yukimura. At the end of some volumes, he used to write stories about their adventures through life).

I’m happy that such an anime exists and it’s pretty cool.

The art work and animation seem a little iffy, but the characters seem interesting enough. Plus I'm a sucker for a good samurai series. Let's see if it can pass the 3 eps test.

Good to know. Anime is really good, or at least much better than i expected, so I may hop to manga if it's that drastic.

Agreed. It's obviously not going to be a brutal series and or carried by stunning animation. Love how it's making up for it with the dialogue and philosophy. Even if it's a repeated tale it's a great one. Who doesn't love the idea of justice and all the forms it can take.

Fellas be a bit goofy here, that's normal and good.
Mixed feelings as two ways to look at it, but regardless full marks. The bad way would be deviation of order leads to more deaths.
In a sense, he is fighting for himself, so others could get what he didn't have. All good <3
4/5 awesome to see him so happy and that one guy attempting to... whistle?

There are some elements that I like. It's like being inducted into a club where kids are turned into men, but there's some drama here as our mc is a cry baby, maybe a bit.

The ending was supposed to be poignant but ruined by the killing in the preview. ugh

Nio gets introduced to the Miburo, where its place is just as every bit as "demonic" as it can be...or it is, on the surface to see guys brawl against one another like it's the usual affair. But when situations occur at the worst, the Miburo gets activated to assess the case, which in this case, is a series of murders as a result of corruption, that is handled like the usual.

Hijikata giving Nio the space to think about what justice means to him, while out on patrol alongside Isami Kondo, and a case comes to them with a guy on the fly, and an abandoned girl on the side that he saved and brought her back to its parent, though it deviates from the Miburo's code of arms. And that is his justice, to see children be saved just like he did.

Yano Serizawa being the spy to purge the Miburo, trouble has begun.

So Nio has finally discovered the kind of justice for himself. His character is interesting and for me it's enjoyable at the moment.

Nio showed bravery while protecting the girl and it's admirable of him.

It's only epsiode two, but I can't wait for the story to build up. I like seeing what Niro wants to do with his life after showing indecision before with his sister. I may grow attached to the characters within the Miburo especially if they get more development, it was fun seeing them interact with each other and showcase that they are not "demons"! However, being within the Miburo may not be as easy as Niro initially thinks, and there isn't much transperancy as to who they are or their true beliefs; each of them has their own "values" they keep to and that may cause conflict within.
I'm not a big history person, but I also would've liked some backstory to this to help me build up on some of the notions Niro is making about Kyoto. If Kyoto is a dangerous place, perhaps more exposition than the two women whispering in the beginning about kidnapping would've been more to help guide the viewer as to why something like the Miburo is needed, or why they could actually fester more danger in the region.
