I was a little worried about how well this remake would be able to capture the magic of the original series, but it turned out better than I was expecting. The animation and music were pretty decent, and the story is flowing nicely.

It is a little strange seeing in a modern anime that the sisters are pulling heists without masks when cameras exist, but I suppose letting the viewers see the pretty faces of the sisters is more important, haha. Plus, it was part of the charm of the original series. So glad it's dubbed as well. Maybe someday a licensor can dub the original series too.

Very strong first episode. It still has a lovable city pop atmosphere even though it was modernized to close the 40+ years gap between manga and this reboot.

Also one of the very first manga that shows woman power, those guys are completely in the palm of cat's eye. Praising intelligent female characters satisfies my ego, but my guilty pleasure is that I love those dumb guys. I've no doubt that this anime will have enough fanservice for cat's eye fan, but Toshio needs to take his shirt off too!

Can I have 52 epiodes of this instead of just 12?

Hmmm it's okay, but the story is pretty simplistic. I mean, I feel that Cat's Eye aren't really challenged by the police tasked with stopping them. Even after they give the police a time and place they still fumble it so hard. If the writing was clever like Ocean's 11 level of heist I think it would be more appealing to me. I'll give it a chance though.

It's easy to see how Cat's Eye has been so successful with Hitomi handling acrobatics, Ai on the hacking, and Rui setting the plan for their capers. Toshio's so distracted by the love in the air that he's not seeing the truth right under his nose!

We've already had three heists, and I am just loving the old school charm in a sleek modern art style. This was a great premiere.

First episode didn't leave a good impression. I don't like this art style, it might be authentic but it looks dated in 2025.
Male MC is 'absolute moron' and that's a quote from this episode.
And what about the pace?! 3 heists in one episode.
On top of that the score of original adaptation is not great either. Not sure what to look here for.

Probably the anime I was looking forward to the most this season unless I'm forgetting something. Always love more good remakes of old animes. This one in particular kept the old artstyle/feels which I really enjoyed. Love the cats girls already. Onee san specially, she's hot. The cast is good for them as well. Curious about what their motive for stealing these pieces are cause they seemed to be storing them in a place so doesn't seem like returning them to their og owner plot. Also 3 stealing in one episode felt a lot. Though not expecting it to be the same in following episodes ofc. Really liked the first episode. The ED by Ado was also really good and had a feel from the last century.

I'll give it a couple of episodes to find its footing but so far it hasn't particularly enthralled me like similar anime have (i.e. Great Pretender) before. I'm mostly watching because the production quality is solid. The characters haven't really given me much to work with, but the story isn't particularly gripping either. I can enjoy episodic works, but I need it to give me some emotional beats, solid character or relationship writing, or at the very least more interesting heists. The Toshio drama feels like it should be a mid to late season conflict; it was a bit strange to have that in the first episode when I'm not at all attached to him or the girls yet.

I'll keep up with it for now but not a great first impression ngl

Cat's Eye (2025) is finally here! The remake of Cat's Eye (1983). I remember being concerned that it was going to be another stupid 3DCGI anime, but thankfully that is not the case. It is 2D. I immediately notice that the anime is set in 2025 rather than 1981-1983, as they bring up the internet, saying "online", and the obvious tablet computer. I did watch a bit of the 1983 version, and it seems to be an episodic show. And this is by the same creator as City Hunter, which was also episodic (I watched all the canon episodes of S1). I saw the manga ratings of both, and it seems Cat's Eye has a much lower rating than City Hunter, which makes it the worse of the 2.

So yeah, now that yet another anime has gotten a remake, I have to start saying "Cat's Eye (1983)" and "Cat's Eye (2025)".

Also did some comparisons. It seems that this remake is actually less censored than the original anime, and seems closer to the manga in general. The manga has the boob grab in it, the 1983 version doesn't have the boob grab (catching her in the darkness doesn't even happen), but this 2025 remake, like the manga, has the boob grab. So yeah, uncensored and properly represents the manga.

So...that was something. Nice to see that the dub sounds just as good as the sub for once. Not sure how to feel about this since I've never seen the original so I only have a blind experience to draw on. It feels like the whole Toshio angle is gonna get repetitive and drawn out really fast and the fact this dude isn't trying to read the room makes the whole naive detective angle really an eye rolling endeavor. Curious to see where it goes, but with the weird choice for airing schedule, it might be a binge for me.
Don't believe the hype.

I just skimmed this first episode because I was curious about if they'd use the more iconic OP and ED, and from what I can tell they did use one as the ED, which was nice, but c'mon. Where's Hot Stuff? Seeing it made me wanna go back and finally finish off the iconic OG series. Also, this is airing until next January 30th? What a confusing release schedule. But I guess I'll hold off and watch all of this early next year leading up to that finale.

For me it was pretty terrible. Everything happened way too fast, the 3 sisters looked pretty different from one shot to another, Toshio's sidekicks were way too stupid and not believable. Everyone was way too stupid, like every members of the security team leaving the other room, but it was like that in the original, but the sidekicks are a step or two too far. And the most annoying thing was how they repeatedly explained what just happened or would happen in the next few seconds.

So far it's great, just like the three Kisugi sisters, the art and music are also good, the humor matches the original time, the only thing that bothers me is the 12 episodes until January 30th.

I like that they tried to keep the original designs but they failed modernizing the world unfortunately. They had internet, phones and tablets but clothes and fashion are still from 80s. City Pop can be retro because of the modern environment otherwise it is just Pop. They could have taken Detective Conan or Kaito Kid as an example.

Side tangent: They get to have Ado sing the opening but you cannot enjoy it because they recorded police dialog over it, that is just infuriating.

Pretty cool so far, animation looks decent and music is pretty cool. Kinda takes me out that it takes place in the modern age and the CG does't look too good either. (But..... that's the same for most anime) Really loved the callback to the og opening in the ed though

As cheap as expected from current O.N.A. Never able to sustain the charadesign it chose, overall flat visuals. Only a few night scenes look okay.
Besides, it's super fast. For a first episode, nobody thought of easing the audience in? Of course not, it's aimed at sickly nostalgic people (at least here in Europe, just look at the official translation using our good old dubs' names).

2/5 Dropped.

@pinkimo Thanks. Starting reading this thread, I thought I was the only one seeing the permanent inconsistency in the characters' drawing.

I read many newcomers resenting the childish/"cartoon-like" recipe. It's simply a light and episodic crime caper series for children. Just like Lupin III was. The only difference is the existence of a common thread (and thus, a semblance of final goal).

Moving this to current decade was the worst decision they could make as it shows whoever was responsible for scenario was not up to the task. In 4 minutes they showed so many stupidities that wouldn't be in 80s but in 2020s are that it's staggering.

4 minutes was enough for me to drop it. You need to completely shut off your reasoning to enjoy this show. This story would require heavy rewriting to fit it into current reality, but they chose easy way making something that treats their viewers like idiots.

Cat’s Eye S1E1 makes a flashy first impression, led by an irresistible, propulsive opening theme and a confident glider set piece that announces the show’s style-first appeal. Beneath that sheen, the episode’s plot feels fairly generic and emotionally light, but it cleanly introduces the core dynamic: bumbling detective Toshio is being deftly played maybe even used by the Kisugi sisters, whose motives and loyalties remain intriguingly murky. Hitomi, in particular, is hard to read her feelings for Toshio seem genuine, but her role as the Cat’s Eye front woman adds layers of tension and deception. The art direction has a charm that’s not quite my taste, and the animation shows its budget at times, yet the pacing keeps things moving and the overall vibe is distinct faintly echoing Totally Spies while carving out its own lane. It may not move the heart yet, but it absolutely moves the needle on style, setting the stage for a slick caper series powered by swagger and song.

That was a fun first episode! I watched the original last year, and its clear the creators of the remake are fans of the original and/or the Manga. Hitomi, Rui and Ai look amazing!
Also it may have just been mean but I didn't see much CGI being used in the episode, Clearly it was used in the ED? which maybe the OP?
the integration of modern technology is seamless in the Cats Eye world. I have to also talk about Toshi ah poor Toshi you can see he tires so hard haha.

The drawing style is all other the place in this one. One scene the sisters look like a square-jawed transvestite boob club meet-up, like almost passable femboys in the other and like actual women in another scene.
Especially Rui got the worse end of the stick most of the time, Ai seems most normal but even her character is sometimes drawn like a girly boy, not even a (cute) tomboy that she actually is.

I really don't get the inconsistency and the beauty avoidance. Who thought this would be a good idea?

This was not a good series premiere in my opinion.

I've been very excited since this new adaptation was announced, because Cat's Eyes (or Signé Cat's Eyes as it's known in the Hexagon) has been an institution in France ever since it first aired in the eighties. That was before I was born, but it still impacts how I think of the show and manga, and makes me want to see it succeed. Unfortunately, now that I've watched this first installment of the series, I have to say that the result is disappointing.

Let's start with the writing. I've watched a full episode and don't know anything but the bare bones of what this story is about or who the characters are, what they want, why they do what they do, etc. The protagonists are unsympathetic, trying to get their friend to lose his career and laughing glibly about it, not to mention burning him with coffee to get revenge for… being the one to assault him in the first place. Yeah, makes perfect sense! Also, why does Toshio immediately assume all three burglars are women because one happens to be?

Then, let's talk visuals. The show doesn't look great. It has the plastic feel of early computer animation, think early to mid aughts, despite this being the year of our lord and savior 2025. Ufotable, KyoAni, Science Saru, CloverWorks, Madhouse, Wit Studio, etc. We know it's possible to make good looking animation on tv, so there's no excuse. We can't have those blank faces in plain view and those gaudy colors. What's more, the character design is atrocious. The cops distracted me so much, I couldn't look at anything else when the long-haired guy and the LA guy were on screen.

I have no hope for the future of the show. I'll keep watching because I'm a completist, but I won't be happy about it.

Since I haven’t read or seen the first version, I can’t really make a comparison.
I find that their character designs lack personality, they’re far too plain and look like emotionless beings.

As someone who has watched the original series twice, I can say without hesitation that the modern version is already lacking the distinct art style, fun atmosphere, professional voice acting and sensual appeal that sustains the original as a rewatchable classic for anime fans of any age. Only the first episode, but my initial impressions are apathetic and numb to this version because its visual appeal doesn't have the timeless feel like the original design, the uneven storytelling doesn't allow the audience a chance to embrace the characters and understand the stakes behind their motivations. Just a poorly executed 1st step to a reboot I'm unsure to evaluate how they will try to modernize a classic that didn't need much improvement, just give the audience a proper ending the original was never allowed to give us. Oh well, lets hope the rest of the season improves upon this flashy yet flakey re-introduction the great trio of thieves- Hitomi, Ai, and Rui.

I couldn't watch past the first heist. It's so terrible. Why remake something if your not going to do it better? What was the point of having security for the painting when there was no security for the painting??? It's not like it was a secret? Why not just guard the very room it was in?
