Welp, I give Shiki credit for having the balls to fight in that state. He's the underdog in that fight and faced a barrage of bullets aimed right at him. The show wanted to see if he could truly master his blood ability so in some ways, this felt like a test for him.

Hell of an episode and cliffhanger. This might be Shiki's toughest fight in the season yet.

The fight and drama between Shiki and Mikado feels soo forced and fake.
I hate it in anime when one side or character simply refuses to listen or try to see reason due to plot reasons.
Show really failed hard to make care about their beef, and at this point I genuinely dont care or if Mikado lives or dies (its not like Shiki is at risk of dying).

(Heck its been 22 episodes and the show has failed to really make me care about ANY if its characters...)

At least the a-hole is finally gone. Too bad we had to spend/waste 5 minutes of the episode see him pointlessly spout the same garbage all over again before kicking the can...

I wonder what kind of asspull its going to take for ichinose to get out of this. Haha.

Mikado is insane. Sucks he wont listen at all, but a master manipulator got to him. Sad times.

Good episode. Happy to see that dirtbag die though

God, I am so over media where a massive problem could be solved with a single simple conversation but the other side "refuses to listen" just to create tension and drama.

It feels so manufactured and forced.

It's a shame, because I really liked the show when it first started, but it's really fallen off for me in the last couple of episodes

Shinya has finally died. Jin taking that last attack on him was for sure coming, for everything that Shinya has done to get where he is now, killing a bunch of people. In the end, they revealed his backstory, which in all honestly is what I was expecting, but I don't think the anime was going like "ohh, poor Shinya", they really were just showing us Shinya's perspective of life, that in no way excuses what he did to get to that high position, and why he got this end.

The battle between Shiki and Mikado started slowly this episode, but I'm expecting things to heat up a lot next episode, when Shiki starts to get serious, since Mikado isn't there to play with him, 6 guns against him is crazy.

I don't know, this anime always manages to hype me up with its episodes. It's pure Shounen fun, and I love it. And this arc is for sure much better than the last one.
Only 2 more episodes for Tougen Anki to end. It's so weird honestly, following this for over 20 weeks now, and it's close to ending! I wonder if we're ever getting a 2nd season after this, considering there are still so many volumes to adapt. I personally would like for them to end up producing a 2nd season!

The only excuse that can be made for Mikado is the level of propaganda in their organization, which explains something, but the scene where Shinya resigns is magnificent, and Jin chose an excellent weapon.

@GersonSalas It really is. I get that anime/manga always tries to in some way justify or explain the villains motivations (insert the tragic backstory) but here it's just poorly handled and doesn't move me. At all. I couldn't care less about a POS like Momotaro. And the two dumbasses on the roof fighting should just get a room and get it over with instead of their pointless hammy shounen lines.

Idk why Shiki is so surprised that Mikado don’t wanna listen to shit he got to say after he found out the person he thought was his best friend betrayed him and was using him. Seeing people say that the misunderstanding is dumb and while I agree it’s somewhat contrived, it also makes total sense Mikado wouldn’t wanna hear him out. He stuck his neck out defending Shiki when Shinya was bad mouthing him just to find out he’s the very thing they warned him about.

They are definitely dragging this out for sure tho

You know, it's kinda refreshing to see a villain dying kicking and screaming like that. Lately we only have villains dying after coming to terms and accepting their fate Demon Slayer style, which eventually became stale and repetitive.
Anyway, they keep prolonging this cringe drama and falling off between Shiki and Mikaido to the point that it drags the show down.
Those two somehow become total BFFs the first time they met and then they met one more time and that's literally it. There is literally nothing between them, yet author is trying to pose this as something deep.

It's been several episodes for us viewers since they first met and hung out, but in actual in-universe time Mikado and Shiki have known eachother for like what... a day? Maybe two? Definitely less than a week.
Them (and the show) trying to portray this as some massive "My BFF childhood friend betrayed me, I'll never trust or listen to you again!"-type of betrayal just adds to the disconnect and general feeling of fake drawn out drama. And like you said, it's dragging on - this has been going on for several episodes now, which is ironically longer than the time we actually saw them bond on-screen. :P

This isn't like if Deku where to find out that Bakugo was actually a high ranking member of the League of Villains after 6 seasons/in-universe years (but the show certainly pretends like it is.)
This is just two random strangers who hung out like once (or twice), and now they're acting up some C-tier Shakesperian Othello skit...

This is such a silly breakup considering they only went on one date.

Am I supposed to be impressed by the guy with 6 guns that thinks to cut off an enemy he needs to physically put the gun in front of them? It's a projectile weapon, the gunfire should be able to cut someone off. that level of thinking is not much better than Shiki who decided, he'd jump off his high ground to start fighting when he got serious. Again... projectile weapon. Why are you closing the distance??

For the fight commentator they chose the most boring speaker they had. I get we need someone with battle experience in their world to establish "Shiki is in a bad matchup so it'll be really cool when he both learns from this bout and wins it!" but this guy is so monotone. (I'm watching the dub, btw.)

Everyone is dealt cards by God at birth, really feels like a perspective that would be more appropriate for the fortune teller guy. Also, I guess they really killed off the guy who knew the truth. If they cut off all roads for this fight to end peaceably, I hope they actually have the balls to have Shiki end Mikado instead of some convenient revelation of the truth before that happens or someone interrupting the fight. (It's a longshot, but here's hoping.)

I guess this level of drama and writing is appropriate for the Wrestling style boots they wear. Verbose and melodramatic without really saying anything.

anyway, this whole issue between Mikado and Shiki is kinda forced and somewhat fake to me. BFFs fighting cause one got betrayed? how long have they known each other? 2 days? and Mikado doesn't wanna talk too.

@coolmonk97

It's called "hatewatching" or falling for the "sunk cost fallacy".
Me and a friend I watch it with does it too at this point: We're 22 episodes in, so of course we're gonna finish the damn thing, despite us finding this show to be honestly quite bad (writing and pacing is terrible and 22 episodes in we still don't really like or care about any of the characters. I guess Shiki can be slightly endearing in a goofy way, but thats about it), and in hindsight we should've dropped it like 10+ episodes ago.

Thing is, up to this current arc I found this show to be "OK", not particularly good, but not bad either. Watchable.
Then this current arc happened and it's been a damn snoozefest with focus on fake drama and a complete sidelining of the rest of the class.

Sometimes there's entertainment to be found in bad shows, like laughing at the poor quality of it, and thats pretty much the only entertainmentvalue Tougen Anki has left to give. I can give it 20 minutes of my time every week for 2 more weeks more at the very least.

@Farabeuf What's funny is the backstory showed he was already part of the Momotaro agency regardless.

So he was always evil anyway, because let's say he had a really useful combat ability, what would he be doing with it? Murdering Oni.

When Shinya was dying I was like: YEAH! GTFO BOZO!

And then they showed his backstory and then I was like: ...GTFO BOZO!

Also, I think Mikado is just acting, there's no way he actually believes Shiki did all that, maybe he's just testing him I don't know.
There's no way he fell 100% for Shinya's BS.

But if he actually believes Shiki betrayed him, just like that, then he deserves a good beating from Shiki.

You know I'm really starting to think that the author doesn't believe being part of genocidal organization that's trying hunt a race of people into extinction isn't evil.

Because look at Shinya and Tsubakiri's backstories, they're both already Momotaro by default before "they went bad" meaning the author doesn't think that being part of organization that regularly sends out hit squads to murder entire families is bad by itself.

Wellp, whatever Shiki can do to convince Mikado, there's just no going back to how they were.

I'd like to believe that Shiki and Mikado's relationship can be as genuine as it comes when it first began...but once the gloves are off, there's just no saving either side. And despite Shinya's trick, Kougasaki managing to come out unfazed by slashing him to his death, it's what he truly deserved ater all this while, even when he started his journey walking up the ladder by his nefarious means to prove he's worth at least someone who's worth noting for. And here he is, being taken down by Kougasaki who cares lesser for his manipulation, and honestly at this point, Shinya getting taken care of is better than leaving him alive.

Back to Shiki and Mikado, Masumi clearly seeing from the sidelines that his own Oni is outmatched by the Momotaro, though Shiki sure is trying very hard to manifest his other hand to try and be just like Mikado in the ploy of "who can pull off the most guns". Honestly, that being the focal point just goes show how shallow the fight truly is, it's writing without intelligent thinking, they are definitely dragging this arc outright.

Whatever it is, Shiki better have Mikado dealt with sooner than later...
