Got to love villains with loose tongues. In less than two minutes he gave out the entire plot down to the highest conspirator. It should be interesting to see how Reinhard handles the base commander next.

Giant icicle to the neck! At the very least this OVA has cemented Reinhard's badassness to physical levels.

Also loved the way that petty bad guy got blew up then shot. I also love that whenever Reinhard or Kircheis dispatch a bad guy, there's never any question of whether they should have killed. Too many times in anime we see a side-character object to what the main character is doing, but these guys are on the same level.

Plus you dont insult Annerose.

Reinhard and Kircheis are quite the cold blooded killers. Insult Anne-Rose and you get a bullet through your head even if you're already incapacitated. How very just and honorable... (yes, that is sarcasm).
Fight monsters and act like one? My friend, you are now one of them, congratulations!

Am I wrong or was this the first time we've seen Reinhard killing a man with (almost) bare hands? They both are pretty badass though those ground abttles are totally different than space battles. You're closer to death.
Also every other anime would've made the biggest drama out of it and they would surely hesitate to kill someone even though it's about their survival. Let aside the fact they willingly joined the military in wartimes. Gotta love LOGH.

But why did Herder already send his subordinate after Reinhard? Who would die in only one day?
I probably regret this post by now.

Just goes to show you that Reinhard doesn't fuck around. One word from Kircheis and his ass was dead. Seriously, his desire to save his sister completely overshadows any sense of morals he has and, strangely, Reinhard still manages to be a likable character.

Anyone else find it odd that the alliance's tanks are super secure and can't be operated unless your brain waves match those of previously recorded people, yet you can hack an entire battalion of them through transmitting data obtained from a floppy disc?

The last couple of episodes are some of the finest looking episodes in the OVAs. The blood crystals were visually very compelling. Indeed, bloodshed took an eerie and fantastical form in that colourless landscape. The sparse lighting inside the armoured vehicle also allowed for interesting light-and-shadow play on Reinhard and Kircheis' faces.

Plot-wise though, this episode brought up both of my main gripes with LoGH:

1) Both Reinhard and Yang's 'incompetent' superiors are just one giant trope as a collective: The Highly Incompetent Yet Highly Ranked Leader. They behave in exactly one set pattern, and yell "NANI?!" before dying due to unexpected reasons, making way for our super-competent heroes. Formulaic and trite. On top of that, the Lieutenant did the whole blab-everything-before-dying thing.

2) The sheer ease with which the protagonists apply some strategy or tactic and win the battle. I cannot even begin to buy that the data from one FPA tank can be used to freeze an entire battalion dead. That too when the fake command signal is coming from an enemy tank.

A far more plausible scenario would be Reinhard communicating details of the attack to base ASAP, allowing the base to prepare an ambush/mines that would dispose of the enemy double-quick. The credit for getting the intel would go to Reinhard and Kircheis, which ought to be good enough.

With an officer possessing that kind of loose lips, you have to wonder how he got as far as he did. At least I got to see Reinhard put on a good act.
"I like young-girl sexual creations, Lolicon is just one hobby of my many hobbies," he says.
I ask what his wife, standing nearby, thinks of his "hobby".
"She probably thinks no problem," he replies. "Because she loves young boys sexually interacting with each other."

So interesting but also very odd to see this all after the original OVA ... and finally, there are some fierce land battles! This piece is really complementary and obligatory for every LotGH fan out there.

And lol, Herder is fucked.

At the 6:38 mark the background music when the two imperial officers are discuss killing Reinhard is the iconic Die Israe song from 'The Shining' title sequence. The song choice's irony isn't lost, with them discussing a pre-meditated murder in a frozen wasteland, which definitely has parallels to The Shining.
