Another great episode! It took hunting to a different level. RIP shadow.

It had a feeling of hollowness but overall had the Mushishi style going. And damn, that is a lot of birds. Another typical day in the adventures of Ginko~

Yes, Uchumiya Kouki!

I was sure that the crows would have eaten him alive, but they only ate his arm, but that must have been really gruesome to experience and to watch... ><

I liked the uneasy feeling I got watching this episode!

Disturbing episode.

I really thought he'd get pecked to death. I'm ashamed to admit it but I was actually a bit disappointed it didn't happen. But I wouldn't have been able to watch it anyway so yeah I suppose it was a good thing he didn't die >__<

I really thought this might turn out to be the first sad ending ep.

It was still quite depressing and Tatsu did lose an arm though. Really nice stuff there ^^

Really, this anime is just too good :)

Wow that was definitely darker than the other episodes. In a sense, fuki(?) gave Tatsu the feeling that he was powerful. But at the same time, Tatsu was getting carried away like his father did. It's unfortunate that it took the loss of his arm for him to open up his eyes (interesting thing about the eyes, Ginko told him to open up his eyes, and Tatsu had an "eye" on the palm of his hand). Last week the mc lost a few digits, and this week the mc lost an arm :(

I absolutely ADORE the scenery.

Anime have a tendency to make forests either too bright or too bland, with almost every single tree as straight as they can be, yet here... @_@

I really did expect a sad ending tbh

Fuki occurs when Kouki decays..
Drinking Kouki restores one's health caused by Fuki.

Dark Tatsu was scary; but those birds were scarier!

Tatsu losing his arm was a bit sad, though it's for the best that it happened.

Good episode. Nice OSTs as always!

liked how the tone, direction and artwork supplemented the the theme of the episode, the fear of the dark, and the feeling of being exposed to the unknown; the fear of being hunted and the thrill of having power over others, all summed up in one episode through (mostly) one character.

Last ep felt quite uncomfortable for some reason, but this one was dark and bordered on being disturbing. The scene at the end was really scary. The whole ep, in fact most of the show is so atmospheric and ambient that sometimes I almost feel like I'm there, and at times feel what the 'main' character is feeling. The VA performances, OST's, artwork, direction, dialogues etc all blend perfectly to give that effect. Beautiful stuff.

And with this episode book 6 is done. I wonder if they'll jump a lot between chapters like in season 1 or if they'll keep it like this and finish the books in order. If so, "The ragged road" is certainly getting closer. :D

Damn, so Tatsu lost his right arm to those bloodthirsty birds. That must've been terrifying, having your arm eaten off, but I guess he should count his blessings that he's still alive especially after getting shot.

I really loved the ending when the wolf/cat thing surprised Ginko ^^ It's nice to see a different side to him.

One thing I found very interesting was that Tatsu and Usuke's father is actually still alive. How does that work if his body and soul are gone? I guess he's just an empty invisible shell now.

Easily my favorite episode of the season so far. I loved watching the wild life with nothing but ambient sounds to compliment it.

Right from the start, there was an unsettling, eerie atmosphere surrounding Tatsu. It was both very suspenseful and subtle enough in its build up. I forgot to breathe a few times during the night Ginko returned, especially the moment when it showed the hunters. The foreshadowing of the birds sitting on the house was brilliant. That scene with the birds gathering around Tatsu and swooping in at him was powerful beyond words.

This is the story of the King of the Jungle without his claws, then he realizes that he is huntable just like others. Utterly amazing, nothing less from Mushishi.

Factoring in Ginko's European style clothing and that matchlock rifle or Musket, I guessing this take place around 18th century.

Yes, according to Ginko, the father is still lost wandering the mountains. Ginko said that he lost his body and soul so I guess that means he's an invisible shell. If you had the golden sake from episode 1 you could probably see him since he has transferred into the Mushi world.

I guess it's impossible to bring the father back since the episode ended without any plan tor rescue the father.

It wasn't really a musket. And the first portable firearms appeared around the 14th century in Asia. I guess that makes mushishi being played out between (the equivalent of) the 14th - 18th century. Seen the fact the gun neither looked like very early firearms (derived from the firelance), nor do we see any modern objects, let alone machinery, from the 18th century, we can best-guess it in the middle, and deduce it is most likely to take place in an alternative version of 16th-17th century Japan.

Not one of my favorites this season but that shouldn't hold any negative connotation like it would for most works. I thought it excelled on several levels as another great piece of art in this series but it didn't work for me as much as say, last week's episode. Really loved the opening and ending sequences.

Masuda Toshio is really doing a nice job with Mushishi, his compositions contribute a lot to the atmosphere.

I loved how the story was structured, the character development through the flashback just when needed, the sound of the forest at night, etc.
It's obvious to the viewer that Tatsu is drunk with Hubris, with the power conferred by the Fuki, losing his self-control despite Ginko warnings. And yet at the moment he says he wants to revert to his previous self, alas, it's too late the tragedy flag has been raised, the hope of a happy (and boring?) end is crushed. He won't be able to escape his fate without some scratch, the hunter becomes the prey. Well, it's a relative happy end anyway, but good story telling and nicely executed, imho :)
