Had a weird feeling about this episode given the nature of the buildup...

Lol @ the dog. Hector just jumped on Sakurako XD

The episode had a slow pace feeling to it I guess. The amount of family focus is somewhat interesting with the conflict of the dog. Seems like business picked up at the end. Sakurako and her keen insight~

Edit: "This butterfly likes corpses". More symbolism with that hmm...

Rather gloomy weather this week. It's pretty much like that weather wise where I live today. Perfect subject matter just a few days out of Halloween too. Well I'm glad Fujioka's alive...so far anyway. When I saw this was a Part 1 I figured it'd cliffhang with his death for sure, and it'd be a shame if he left his wife and newborn daughter behind. Get to crackin' the case, Sakurako-san! :D

Oh, and that shot of Sakurako with her pants lowered...awkward fanservice? :D

Hooray, the show finally broke away from its own crappy formula, and look how much better it was as a result.I bet Fujioka's going to die next ep, and I have a strong feeling that it's going to have something to do with that guy he ran into on the way back from collecting the cake. What advice is he following anyhow? Is it something to do with the curse or something else entirely? And what's with the butterflies popping up again?

And they really had to end it there... just when it got interesting.

I kind of don't think Fujioka would die, though there were many scenes that implicates death, but if Fujioka dies, it would be like Sakurako lost, as her primary goal is to pretty much keep Fujioka alive, although in order to do so she has to break this "curse". Wonder how things would turn out without pushing things too much.

In a house like that, and Fujioka still wears the colour black. Looking forward to seeing that painting that Fujioka just can't part with.

Not the best buildup but I liked the turn of events later on. Sakurako-san clicks off from now on for me, an episode of good writing with some off-symbolism added with an awkward fanservice scene. Finally an escape from the episodic formula the show was following and quite an expected one, as it should be taking itself seriously from now on.

And oh, Hector for the win. (´・ω・`)

The dog is not doge level but he is adorable :)

So the butterfly symbolizes death :O

All the men died cause of lots of coincidences.
The tobacco ruining their lungs, genetic illnesses, painting must have some allergic reaction or something, and they must all be allergic to dogs.

This seems like it's going to a drug route?
The junkie last ep. and this guy, maybe he isn't smoking plain cigarettes.

Slow but interesting episode. Seeing the title as "Pt 1", i knew they'd spend time getting into the thick of things for this case. But, still felt weird because of the whole curse/supernatural tag with this case. With bones seemingly like the main theme of this series, i was surprised by this episode.

That said, Sakurako seems to have figured something out, so Im definitely locked in to find out the conclusion of this case.

This.
I dk if its something to do with the art style, to show he's furry, or that it has something to do with the case D:

Let me gather up what I think.
The butterfly is some foreshadowing to the main plot of Sakurako's history I guess.
The painting is old .. might have some toxic chemical to it perhaps ?
Well... I disliked the fan service so there is that.
But the mystery seems nice .. I wonder what rout it shall take.
The doge is cute though :3
He is glowing whit ball of fur >///< As the opening has the dog in it .. maybe they go a tragic route with this arc OR as the doge likes Sakurako it visits her house either way it will lead to fun.
That juicer was good though.. mysterious as well, I liked how looking at it I could sense a feeling of mystery arising. The house is all grey from the outside... kind of tragic. So many premature death can only lead to some air issue I think. There was also a heater in the room, but I ignore that case because only the males are affected in the lineage so something regarding that ? Hmm... I have idea at all.
I don't know why people write that they are approachable persons,
if you were you wouldn't be on MAL.

Pretty gloomy-looking episode. Seeing as how we're so close to Halloween, the atmosphere and overall theme of this little arc seems fitting.

Gonna be interesting to see how this case plays out, especially since they're taking it slow this time around, giving it two episodes instead of wrapping it up in one.

Our main character is pretty shy especially for someone who seems to be around woman a lot.
As the scene with the hip shot suggested and it's not the first thing something like that happened.
It also seems he is a bit unaware of a girls feeling as the first and second episode suggested when the girl from his school showed up.
All these things seems rather strange for someone who was raised by a single mother, you would expect someone like that to be more understanding to a girls feelings.
And a bit more resisting to seeing a girls body part.

The episode itself was a bit slow but i have to say i like the dog.
I also think that Fujioka is very obsessed with this curse, he doesn't realise that his obsession is hurting his wife.
Seeing as he is talking openly to others of taking care of her and his daughter after his death.

I loved the atmosphere the episode created! The cold and gloomy weather, an isolated house, a detour to reach it, a fireplace inside it, all these minute and irrelevant details just added so much to the feel of the episode.

And the ed is sick! Gives me goosebumps every time.

Finally an episode with extended frame. Although it was a bit dismal episode. I loved hector and I think the decision to hip Sakurako will be relevant to a future event (or rather, to Shotaro realize something important). I think this guy is also illegal things, that encounter the side of the road is not good.

Sakurako's hip bone was worth the price of admission.

But even without it, this episode was a clear improvement over last weeks melodrama.

The painting must have some toxic chemical that causes those people to react badly to it.

Animals (pets) are good at sensing death. I've read that in one retirement home there's a cat that will visit and stay with a person who's about to die (sometimes unknowingly), so nobody wants the cat with them lol.

Bet it's some kind of toxic paint? The guy he met though was really shady too. Drug dealer? Murder conspiracy? o_o

Seemed like tasteful, reasonable fan-service. I don't think I've seen a hipbone as fanservice before. Soutarou still blushed. xD

Well they're doing something much different this time around. Can't say for sure what's going on with this 2-parter, but the set up once again seems extremely stupid. If you have a family history of sudden death, wouldn't looking at medical records be the 1st concern as opposed blaming the dog? And why would anyone need to call an osteologist to deal with the occult? Why not just get rid of the dog? It wasn't a terrible episode, doesn't instill much faith in me that the show will improve any time soon though.

Good episode, finally this is turning into full-fledged detective case. Kinda. And gloomy atsmosphere of this episode was so good.
Just notice all those hints and things that could lead to death, like axe, ceiling fan, umbrella during storm, fruit grater and so on.

But when I saw that other person and realize he is playing his role - this all seems like some preparad insurance fraud.

The only thing that was pretty illogical was the car blocking the road. If there was a cop with them he should at least check it to make sure there wasn't any accident.

If you look closely at the shots of Fujioka's hands, you'll notice that his nails have three different shades (instead of the normal two). Sakurako probably noticed this too, considering how she grabbed his arm. As an anime only watcher I'm calling it:

heavy metal poisoning

Fujioka's nails have 'rings' that are the result of toxic build-up in his body. It's a type of poisoning that takes time, and small cumulatives doses can build up (ta da) for weeks, months or even years. Finally, older paints often contained these hazardous materials.

the shady figure is probably some family alternative healer that tells him to hug the painting every day or something similarly ridiculous, only agrevating the problem.

Ya ya ya. I also love how Shoutarou treats her like and talks about her like a kid, in public. That's one messed up relationship I tell you.

Dammit cliffhanger! I'm guessing the painting has some sort of toxic elements mixed into the paints, or his bloodline is just allergic to dogs but showing symptoms in a different way which can lead to an early grave. But with that shady man in the rain, maybe it's all part of a bigger conspiracy, like life-insurance fraud where the men knowingly kill themselves for the sake of their families, and that man in the rain can be the "fixer" that makes it possible by faking the cause of death to be any illnesses, before taking a cut.

Well, at least we know Hector will likely live with Sakurako later since the OP spoiled it.

good episode but i really cant help noticing how hard theyre trying with the animation and thats not a compliment. that scene with the shaky cam when the cursed guy yelled was really rough and forced. it felt sooo jittery and unnatural unlike when for example kyoani does it. to convey the dramatic effect they were going for the panning should be more subtle with less sharp jerks in direction. totally not germaine to the series as a whole but you know i really hate when people try so hard and fail pitifully. ot interesting setup kinda felt like anti smoking propoganda lol

I was initially angry at the cliffhanger ending just as things got interesting, but then I remembered that this little arc would be multiple parts.

Breaking away from the typical setup from the first 3 episodes seemed to do this anime some good, this is definitely more interesting since it allows for more time to flesh out the mystery. I'm also interested in that dude standing in the rain that Fujioka talked to. He probably has something to do with the bigger mystery.

Another reference to butterflies again in this episode. I feel like it might have something to do with Sakurako's past, idk though.

Build-up episode. I actually enjoyed it quite a bit! Typically it ended just when things were going to get the most interesting, but I do not mind that.

I liked Hector, the supernatural not so much. Nonetheless, I do look forward to seeing what Sakurako-san has figured out!
