THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Felt like a buildup episode this week again.

Tessa sure has a lot on her hands to deal with so far. Not to mention, Sousuke himself is getting back to what he does best again. For what's worth, I think the episode really felt like Second Raid. The theme songs made this episode are neat too.

The thrilling action definitely had my attention and what a cliffhanger!

Man, Tessa was cool as ice with those incoming missiles: "If they're nuclear it will be instanteneous" and then that bit with the mutinous soldier, damn!

Interesting how Sousuke absolutely doesn't want Kaname to take violent action. He protects her in more ways than one. But it's taking a toll on her.

Amalgam really are a bunch of nasty scoundrels. Sweet Kyoko doesn't deserve that!

I'll say this as many times as it takes, Tessa is the best girl in FMP.
I thought for sure that she was going to say something like " I don't want you all to die for me so please hand me over if your survival rates are higher that way" some shit like that and then everybody would be like "No way captain" and would show their loyalty.
But instead, it was Tessa who stepped up and showed everyone who she really is and that she was ready to shoot if he was not going to cooperate, Brilliant!

The animation is amazing, this might surpass the previous seasons because of animation alone. All that is left to see is if the plot is good.
I thought the 1st season was ok, but the 2nd season was fantastic. Seemslike this will continue in the footsteps of second raid

The CG was surprisingly great and made that action feel more hype. Fucking awesome episode with a great cliffhanger.

Tessa was amazing in this episode! What an ice queen.

Some really smooth animation in both the opening and the actual episode itself. The CGI in the car driving scene felt a bit out of place in between but otherwise a fantastic episode

That was decent, felt really fast-paced. The chase sequence looked so weird, it kept switching between cheap animated surroundings stuff and good-looking character animation... With war and all the killings seems like the whole season will be serious.

Having read the later light novels to FMP years ago, I've been waiting for years for an anime adaptation for them to come out. And so far, this anime hasn't disappointed me. The more serious and dire mood from those volumes have been retained thus far and the events have been faithfully adapted thus far, including the twist ending that effects Sousuke and Chidori's situation. Also doesn't hurt the animation is perhaps among the best I've seen for the year thus far with its clean visuals and fluid movement, including some nice CG rendering of the mechas. As long they keep the mood like this and the pacing is as good as it is, this could wind up being one of my favorites for this year.

Please don't ruin this for me, Xebec.

Indeed, I think in general this adaptation will keep focus on the serious part of FMP. I hope the BD's get some sort of Fummofu like extra's to balance it out a bit,

Wow, that was intense, I suspect this season may end up being better even than TSR. I feel so bad for everyone: Chidori has to watch innocent people and now even her friends be hurt for her sake, and Tessa at such a young age has had to steel herself to the point that she can wait unflinchingly for the possibility of instant death and is prepared to shoot someone for mutiny. Now Chidori will have to show us if she can work up the same resolve, and I don't think she'll be able to right away. By the end of the season, probably, but not now; I suspect she'll be ready to give in and hand herself over (which of course Sousuke won't like).

I'm reading the LNs up to vol 2 right now, but I feel inclined to just start vol 7. Man...

The Car chase scene was the crapness though. Not in choreography but in very jarring CG.

FINALY ... a good sequel and anime that takes mecha and military seriously ... The CGI delivered for once ( since it's the same team that works on gundam origins ) ... the developement of characters will be huge and it's not the comedy FMP we used to know, characters grew and became more mature ... thank you Xebec ;_;

Aaaaah.....finally delivered after 13 years waiting (for me it's 4 years to be exact from 2014 since watching TSR and finishing the manga). The action scene is thrilling, can't catch a breath . My only complaint it's the CG looks jarring comparing to character drawing, which is a shame considering TSR quality is better than this (different studio/budget I guess)

Looks like someone forgot to add textures to the CGI. It was pretty funny when you see Sousuke's 2D design inside the 3D car lol. Apart from that this was a very intense episode.

After such a long wait i was willing to take almost anything. This season so far isn't perfect but it's beyond what I hoped for. The only bad point is the CGI and if that's the only complained till the end I will be very happy. My only main concern now is that the 12 episode ain't all we are gettng. I think we need at least double that

never expected it to start at full throttle. this is the 1st time Kaname witness what means to protect her, so far she was kept oblivious to the ugly side of it.
they are not pulling any punches, seems they gave up on capturing her.

so, this isn't 24 like usual? hope it won't get to compresed

Tessa is awesome in this season, and I normally don't like when an anime uses such a heavy reliance on CGI but that car chase scene was so much fun to watch, I understand if people still don't like the look of it though.

Anime of the season for me so far.

Only two episodes and in my opinion is already being the best anime of the season, logically many points are not as expected, doesn't make sense nobody does not even try to shoot the tires during the car chase, but the plot is very good indeed, the action scenes were amazing, but the characters are the differential of the anime ..

Sousuke relentless as always, I like to see him struggling, Kaname showing the personality of an ordinary people in the midst of the fight, really a normal person would not resist all of this, but who was the highlight of the episode was Tessa, a strong personality and at the same time gentle, always expect great things when she is on the scene, I was quite excited watching the episode, and I expect a great development ..

Tessa was fucking awesome this episode. She put Speck in his place and in few seconds restored the motivation of everyone present, showing who's the boss here. God bless her.

The car chasing of Sousuke against the forces of Amalgam was cool, though a bit jarring, especially in the parts when the characters were shown in 2D, but still nice. I feel very bad for Kaname, I think this is the first time in the series she sees that many destruction and death in person, I would lost my shit in her place. And now Amalgam has kidnapped her friends (and has 3 Behemoths with them, no less)...

It seems this is going to be darker of what I thought. Even the "main villain" feels more serious than Gauron and Gates, who were at least entertaining nutjobs. I will miss the comedy moments of this show for sure.

Very good episode this week. Ramping up to the big scenes from the novel either next week or the week after. It's really doing it well. Going to be fun watching people's reactions to what happens going forward.

Shame we didn't get Dancing Very Merry Christmas animated, it shows some interesting scenes. So i expect some will get a surprise next episode, but i'll be waiting to see how people react.

It's only going to get darker from here folks. It's one hell of a ride. Also it's not going to finish the show off with 12 episodes. we'll still have probably another cour to go

what a episode it went!!, especially that cliffhanger... lots of actions here and there and some necessary developments of Mithril which was also neat. It was also nice to see Tessa getting serious mood (yeah that reminded me how badass she was). Overall the intensity pretty much have the same feels of what I experienced on TSR (even though it just started!) but this even dark that OP/ED have to be so different. Damn so hyped for next episode!

I thought the 1st season was ok, but the 2nd season was fantastic. Seemslike this will continue in the footsteps of second raid

Lets be honest, the Second Raid had a fantastic second half but the rest was all set up (as was season 1) for the world and the characters of Mithril.
Finally after 1 1/2 season we got to the real enemy (Tessas brother and his organization, Amalgam) and now we can finally see what Mithril is made of. Especially the set up of Tessas growth paid of big time this episode, but what i'm really interested in is the same thing the last part of Second Raid did so well, showing us the the reason for all the events in Full Metal Panic aka Chidori finally starting to show her potential.

At the moment everything is blowing up around her and she finally needs to show us she is indeed a Whispered and that she has the ability to match, because that is what the whole show is centered around, the thought that she is important and everybody wants her on their team or dead.

Dem! Thar was intense! Its full battle of body and mind. No room for heart.
Geez! Im starting to like Tessa as a captain! As long as she doesn't get in between Chidori and Sousuke. The courage she showed really stepped out the game in this episode.

She's not in princess in name only! :D The fact that she said this about herself was damn cool! The lines after that are kind of used so I wasn't fascinated much.

Anyhow, back to my love, Chidori. It's kind of sad to see her being weak but it's understandable because this is the first time she saw a lot of people being killed partly because of her. This is really getting into me. Its pacing is fast but its depicted well. Considering that it only has 12 episodes. I really wish that they would continue it next season. with another 24! >.<

On one hand in a kind of morbid way, Sousuke should be flattered that Amalgam is taking him seriously to throw the kitchen sink at him. Poor Chidori tho, this kind of world Sousuke lives in and unfortunately she will as long as Amalgam isn't dealt with. Agreed with complaints with CG (the chase sequence), but what is worth I did like the overall level tension present throughout the episode.

EDIT: Forgot to add that Tessa is freaking awesome!

I have mixed feelings this episode. I loved all the action, loved seeing Tessa show the only way to survive is to work together but frankly thought Chidori's reaction was out of character. I understand in some part that it's to exaggerate the impact of seeing her hometown, Kyoto get blown up and civilians get caught in the crossfire but she's been through worst in the previous seasons! Held hostage, kidnapped, subjected to torture/experiments, and then now she's gonna freak out??? It just doesn't really make sense when thinking about it in context of the WHOLE class being kidnapped in a plane hijacking and defiantly resisting Gauron.

Other then that, I liked the emphasis that things had changed- Amalgam is going for the jugular and civilian casualties are not an issue anymore. And I loved Tessa 's character being expanded yet again. She's always been the best girl to me as well.

I was thinking Kaname was gonna try turning herself in. Since that'd be totally predictable but understandable. Especially with her mental breakdown?

I've mixed opinion on the animation of this. The art work is clean and well done, but when I see short two second sequences repeating as movement, it just looks cheap. Some of the foreground movement does not match well with the background.

I know their trying to present Tessa as mentally tough, but asking for a pistol and shoot in the ground came across as childish. She is the authority there. Ordering him arrested and taken to the brig would be proper, demonstrated she's in charge, but would not have been as dramatic.

Watching Chidori come to grips with that Sousuke is actually a very seasoned soldier will be good watch. His choosing her as a priority, and acting on such with force will rattle her. Seeing her realize the severity of her plight will be interesting. I hope the show doesn't mess this up.

love this series, but I still think the most gut wrenching arc is when sosuke goes back home in the first series and ends up having to kill his childhood friend who had turned against him and he lost every single member of his unit so yeah watching sagura deal with the trauma after returning is definitely one of the missions that affected him negatively

My heart plummeted at the end of this episode. I expected IV to be more serious than the rest, but dear lord I was not prepared for this.

Chidori's been in danger before, but I don't think anyone else has been hurt because of her before. (Well, except for all the people caught up in Sosuke's catastrophes during Fumoffu!) I feel bad for her. But despite everything happening, she doesn't slow Sosuke down. FMP really does have great characters.

10/10. Every second serves to deliver a plot point across (though that car chase scene feels both overly long and short at the same time-- shorter than what a car chase scene usually is, but felt longer than the rest of the scenes especially when looking at the seemingly unfinished rendering of a flat-shaded CGI.) The focus on the destruction to casualties is chilling-- gives you ample view into what Kaname is seeing as a civilian, and justifies her reaction throughout the entire episode. She really tries not to be a dead weight on Sousuke, but she's still just a normal girl.

"If they're nuclear, it will be instantaneous." That made me respect Tessa even more.
