Welp, school is back in session with a new semster. Yuki's fan club is back again too lol..

Naohito and Toudou also makes appearances. I find it slightly amusing that Toudou kinda represents the anti-Yuki Club with her personality. Yuki better get used to the both of them at school.

Both of these characters should spice up drama a bit this season.

Oh yes, the rest of the student council is here, Kimi and Naohito.
The op slightly changes this episode including Kureno side by side with Rin.
Yuki - student council episode full of chaos this episode, also the Yuki Fanclub will have a hard time dealing with Kimi.
Kakeru mentioning 'just like her' can't wait to see her too.
Machi being quiet the entire time, I want to see more of her.
oh, Haru said that at the end.

It's so good for Yuki to finally gain an "equal" in school that's unrelated to his family.

I absolutely loved this episode! It was great to finally meet Kimi and Naho, and to get a good look at what exactly the student council dynamic is going to be like. Particularly with Yuki and Kakeru. I’m excited to see their friendship grow.

The picking color scene was fantastic, I was laughing so much. & Machi’s face when Yuki asked her what color she likes!!!

My only disappointment was that there wasn’t a new opening and ending. I was really hopeful there would be, since this seemed like a perfect episode for one, with school starting back. However, with the addition of Kureno to the opening scene with Rin, I’m wondering if we’ll get a second opening at all...

I hope this is not all vice president secret, I want to see him more.
If you're viewing as a third person perspective, wild character like him is very charming.
But if you as a first person perspective encounter him, that will be very annoying and conflicted.

And we are back at school. Where is my new opening and ending? It's weird to have the Beach arc opening when summer vacation is over... Well, at least we got to see Kureno and his bird form, so we now have all 13 zodiacs in the Beach arc opening. But gimme a new opening, seriously!

Anyway, this episode combined chapters 66 and 73. Well, most of chapter 66. The rest was covered in episode 11. We get to meet 2 new council members, Kimi and Naohito. Together with Machi and Kakeru now we have met everyone. Poor Yuki has to deal with 4 weird people in the student council. Hang in there Yuki.

There were 2 misstranslations in Horriblesubs version. At 00:57 Kyou should be saying about Uotani: "I didn't think she was the type for that sort of thing." Which is why Hanajima says to him: "Oh my, that's strange for YOU to say." And then she laughs. (BTW, they are talking about falling in love.)

2nd misstranslation was at 06:27 when Naohito tries to say to Yuki that he is his rival and Kakeru butts in and says:"He's your 1st love? Do your best, shorty! I definitely WON'T be cheering for you!"

Next episode we get more of Rin! <3 It will be chapters 69-70.

I still stand by the fact Yuki is the best-written, most "human" character in the series. The other members of the student council aren't the most interesting to me, but I can tolerate them because those episodes inevitably shine a spotlight on Yuki-kun Yun-Yun.

I thought this was going to be a nice fun episode, a break from the heavy eps but no! The scene at the end made my heartthrob. I just want Yuki to be happy and I'm hoping that Kakeru can be someone he can open up to and rely on, a friend who is separate from the Zodiac secret because that's what Yuki really needs.

I'm instantly not a fan of Kimi... she is really annoying. I like Nao though!

Poor Yun-Yun, sorry, Yuki has a lot on his plate now school is back in session. The council has gotten a lot more hectic with the new additions of the scheming Kimi and the angry short brat Naohito, so things will be pretty amusing at the council from here on out.

Kakeru is already proving to be an interesting character. Although it was a dick move of him to kick the flower tray out of Yuki's hands during their heated argument, but it did give the both of them a chance to vent their anger at each other, as well as being honest about their faults and apologising, too.

At least the both of the are back on good terms with each other now. Yuki needed someone like Kakeru to help him, even if it meant that they came close to decking each other. I do look forward to seeing how their friendship evolves in the future. Nice episode. =)

The remainder of Chapter 66's content and Chapter 73 was adapted for this episode. This episode had a few scenes and bits of dialogue removed at points from what was adapted and a noticeable change in time depicted with combining Chapter 66 and 73's events together. In addition, this episode marks the anime debut of the two remaining new student council members with Kimi and Naohito. Here were changes I noticed in this episode:

-Following Saki and Kyo’s exchange, there is a removed scene where a male student was asking for anyone interested in participating in a bowling tournament after school. Tohru turned the request down because she has to work after school. But the classmate and Arisa start teasing Tohru, assuming she is going on a date. This gets Tohru flustered and Kyo then asks what is going on, before asking the others to quit teasing Tohru.
-Throughout the scenes adapted from Chapter 73, all the students were shown in their winter uniforms in the manga instead of their summer ones.
-Some details to comment on with the scene during Yuki’s monologue about Kakeru…

  • Kakeru’s spoken conversation with the soccer club members was added for the anime.
  • Some of the lines during Yuki’s monologue were removed for the anime.
  • There is a removed scene where Yuki recalls a flashback where he’s talking to Tohru about the flowers grown by the Horticulture Club, which is interrupted by Kakeru’s complaint about his sign being removed from the classroom name plate.

-When Kimi brought the whiteboard to the student council room, there was a small bit removed from the scene for the anime that showed Kimi charming a teacher into letting her have it.
-The argument with Kimi, Kakeru, and Naohito was extended a bit for the anime.
-When Kakeru was observing Tohru, she was shown talking with Yuki near the Horticulture Club’s flowers in the manga instead of walking home with Kyo.
-During Yuki and Kakeru’s argument, there was some inner dialogue from Yuki regarding his thoughts on his happiness that got removed from the anime.
-Kakeru’s response to the Horticulture Club member was extended a bit for the anime. In addition, some lines from Yuki’s inner monologue in the scene were removed for the anime.
-During Kakeru’s apology to Kyo, only one other male student was with Kyo in the manga instead of two.

Hmmm...the student council members definitely are not my cup of tea, three of them are pretty annoying. The fight between Yuki and that vice-president was interesting and I could see where it was going, but all I could think about while they were fighting was WOW, did that idiot really have to do that to the plants? Talk about overreaction, what did the poor plants ever do to you?!

I see a lot of people find Kimi annoying, understandable, but I find her to be interesting. We don't really have a character like her in this series. Most of the characters are either too pure or too manipulative.

Kakeru's reckless attitude can be irritating, but I think it compliments well with Yuki's hesitant attitude.

Yuki is already growing and he is just going to keep on growing. I'm glad he is getting development outside of the Sohma family drama. After all, it's not like this cult-like-family is the only thing in the world.

I can't wait to see more of my girl Machi.

I like how the student council members have a wide array of characteristics and personalities that, somehow, seems to mesh well with one another. Yuki, the reliable level-headed yet extremely low self-esteemed president. Kakeru, the energetic, goofy yet difficulty to express his honest intentions, vice-president. Machi, the very quiet, secluded treasurer. Kimi, the sassy, antagonizing with faux politeness, secretary 1. And Naohito, the straightforward, short-tempered secretary 2. Such a colorful cast of members.

Very important Yuki episode this week as we begin bridge over to the second cour. After the beach arc Yuki is a very changed character. He's far more determined now to connect with people and establish himself to grow that independence away from Akito and the Sohmas. The antics this episode really made me laugh, getting introduced to the new characters as members of the student council. Kimi and Naohito being polar opposites in personality but there to help the elder members of the student council. The start with Kimi just walking up to Yuki and calling him Yun Yun was the best. Hilarious moment seeing the Yuki fan club freak out every time Kimi would mess with them.

Manabe coming back this episode as the vice president. Having to make rounds with Yuki, whom brings up the great point of if the student council doesn't benefit the students then it's no good. Pressing Yuki buttons talking about Kyo and Tohru getting all cushy. They do kinda look like a couple now just on sight. did like seeing the main gang with Uo being upset about not seeing Kureno again. Yuki and Manabe almost coming to blows with each other projecting their pain. Yuki feeling like he can't get close to people and Manabe not being able to understand anyone. They each have inner pain and jealousy towards the other. Which speaks to a lot of people and how they feel towards those around them. We don't often see our own strengths just other's. Yuki remarking at the end about how they can better understand they can grow closer was very sweet to end it with.

You know? I almost felt bad for Yuki here. Having to deal with such... eccentric people must be so frustrating, especially when Kakeru decides to go full retarded. His goofy/stupid side kinda irritates me, not gonna lie.

Overall, it was a weak episode if I'm honest. I mean, I really like the idea of Yuki opening up to other people outside of his usual social circle but I only wish the personalities of the student council's members weren't so "extreme". Especially in Kakeru's case, whose drastic changes between emotions looked more jarring than anything else.

So, Haru-focused episode next time? Guess we will know more about Rin as well so I'm particularly looking forward to it.

To be honest, the student council members were even more interesting to watch than merely reading them from the Fruits Basket manga. At first, I was hoping they would condense the ark because it really doesn't really involve most of the Soumas
(except Yuki and a bit of Tooru, Kyo, and Ayame). But it was really nice watching an interesting group so colorful, youthful, and lively.

But it would be nice if they can just combine the student council chapters together like in this episode. Kakeru Manabe is definitely the second key for Yuki to break out of his shell. Although Yuki is so popular, he still is keeping to himself. (The first key is Tooru Honda obviously).

But coming back to the story after some rereads I've come to appreciate them more... Especially for Yuki's growth and development!
So yeah I was looking forward to this episode. It was a nice break from the usual furuba.
Kimi I think I actually like more than before

Back to school for Tohru and the rest, now that summer break is a done deal.

Speaking of school...the Yuki Fan Club is back once again to draw more ire as their endless antics parade around the always-beautiful bishounen. Always a happy and funny time for the Fan Club in distress being at buttheads with the Student Council "seductress" of a secretary.

And then the draw to the Student Council from the few episodes prior...what a low-brow tactic, but now being heralded as the president, Yuki has to stand strong. One thing's for sure: with a band of troublemakers, his getting along is in for a path written in rough patch: a chuunibyou-esque double-faced vice president, a rowdy shorty secretary, a seducting secretary, and a cold and aloof but bullied treasurer. Anything but full of hilarity.

But when things that are Tohru-related to Yuki comes up, his comparison with Kyou is simply unmatched, but to the outsider, it's as much as a mere shrug of concern. His trauma of being inferior isn't as much over as his experiences with Akito, that's for sure.

For the vice president Kakeru Manabe, he might have just been Yuki's MVP this episode in character development. At first, I'd thought like his dynamic with Yuki was worlds apart, but his temperament with wanting to think like Yuki just about changes his persepective to be in his shoes.

Another great episode, Fruits Basket has always been very consistent so far.

Back to this show's obnoxious, unfunny comedic worst, with yet more annoying characters thrown into the mix. I don't know how this show can continue to create new characters who are this annoying when the existing cast already have plenty of obnoxious members to go around. And I know we've already seen Kakeru, but he's infuriating: how in the world did he manage to get onto any student council? How did any of them, for that matter?

Yep, Kakeru is even worse than Kagura. I didn't know that was possible, yet here we are.
