Oh Hana...but I think her reactions were natural after the confession. It's what she waited to hear for a long time but now, she seems confused.

This episode gives off similar vibes to this anime's early episodes. Also got one last on screen movie date between them. About time the two were able to express their feelings to another. This finale imo had a charming and emotional feel to it despite the awkwardness.

Ueno finding both Tetsuo and Uguisudani in the former's place just hanging out, to ascertain advice on how to deal with Hana, and Granny Sae soon brings an opportunity for him with a pair of movie tickets to see Hana's favourite manga on the big screen. And in the same way, Hana feels the same watching her favourite series in anime form, feeling a lot more cringe and worried the more that she thinks about Ueno. That's where both Uguisudani and Sayaka comes in to help Hana shake off her worries and face Ueno properly, as soon as the rumours of Ueno's crush goes around the school, and Shinbashi has quite the shock of learning him and Hana are a thing. Of course, Shinbashi has an objective of his own (to date Uguisudani), as much as both Ueno and Hana finally confront each other and face their romantic worries together, but that he however, confessed to the wrong girl for the double date.

A little bit of the past with Akabane, of which Hana took his role in the beautification committee, and seeing him regret his choices of her being ugly, it's just a shame that he stuck in his old ways. On the other hand, Shinbashi regretting his choice to bring Sayaka along, thankfully she's a good choice for knowing Ueno better for longer, as much as the movie made Ueno sleep the way through and almost embarrassing Hana. And though she had some time meeting Akabane by coincidence thinking that she's on a date with Ueno, she shrugged it off...but that Ueno bought the misunderstanding as well? Hana's pep talk with the florist Ritsuko certainly helped clear things up, though once Ueno heard her heart's cry, he could not just forget what she said out of her mouth, and the two finally put their feelings and emotions in front to confess their love to each other, even if they are OK to date in secret.

Just like Honey Lemon Soda, this show easily earns the goodness of typical rom-coms in that vein. A decent to good showing.

And so we end with a movie double date and a tearful confession.

Pretty cute series on the whole carried largely by the secondary cast. Ueno's brother and Shinbashi were probably my favorite characters in this. For a good chunk of this I actually found myself enjoying it more than the other major romance show I watched this season, Fragrant Flower, but that show picked up in the last handful of episodes while this one dropped a bit near the end. Not enough to say it was bad by any stretch, but when it finally came time to focus on Ueno and Tabata getting together I began to lose interest. It felt like we were going on autopilot a bit and not until this finale did we really focus much on Tabata's side of things. Regardless, I enjoyed this enough for a solid 7/10.

Oh, and this was my 1,100th completed entry on here, so huzzah for that!

This anime adds nothing new to the "ugly outside, beauty inside" genre, even the mediocre Uglymug, Epicfighter tries harder than this anime.

Pretty good, though to be honest I was more interested in the side couples than the main couple. I mean it let viewers infer where the relationships will go for Tetsuo and Sumire as well as Shinbashi and Saya, but I honestly wanted to follow their story. The misunderstandings, while understandable, were tired and felt silly by the end. An OVA with a time skip would be nice; then we could see how things went with everyone.

This was a really good show!

The first airing one I ever watched.... tbh, I think it's a solid 7/10, I found it boring at some parts, especially with the constant misunderstandings that kinda pissed me off a tiny tad.

Overall, 7/10, I know we are probably not going to get a season 2 (it doesn't seem to be popular enough for that), but still, glad I could watch this series as it aired.

What a touching, cute, sad and awkward confession, this episode was great all around, we got to see Tetsuo and Uguisudani getting closer and closer and even a new possible couple out of a misunderstanding / mistake, slow burn anime but the good kind I'll say the only thing that I really disliked more and more was that I liked when Shinbashi realized about Uguisudani's feeling for him a few episodes back yet he was still fixated with her as if that lovely moment of self reflection and growth didn't happen. More of this show would be great, specially with Akabane situation, Tabata was extra cute with those pigtails back then.

Final episode. Even at the end, the love stories of the supporting cast were better than that of the main pair. This one wanted to obviously emulate the KnT formula, but it did not hit quite right. I hope the supporting cast’s love stories go well, but this anime will be one of those things I look back on in the future and go, “oh yeah, I watched that.”

So aggressively mid.

Yes, they do stuff as a couple. But I haven't really read it myself.

They did a really good job adapting this story. Although i kinda missed some scenes with Tetsuo and Uguisudani from the manga that fleshed out their relatioship a lot more. I hope we get a second season cause it could clearly adapt the arcs that are left.

Very good, both the ending episode and the series!

Yousuke and Hana form an adorable couple. Tetsuo and Sumire too. Wish them the best!

More from both couples would be a pleasure. Second season much welcome if and when coming.

The problem with this is Tabata is just too bland and dull AF for it to be believable that anyone guy would think she was "cute". She's one of those people who's barely there.

Some cute moments with other characters, but this wasn't the greatest overall.

It was a sweet and charming romance. Having to face those who mocked them is precisely what makes Ueno such a good protagonist: he doesn't care what others think, because he loves her, and that's all that matters. For now, they will keep their relationship a secret.

But, honestly, the characters I liked the most as the episodes progressed were Sumire and Shinbashi. She started out as the typical pretty girl who might try to sabotage the main couple, although she never really had the chance. Little by little, she will overcome her heartbreak and develop feelings for Tetsuo. And Shinbashi made the best mistake of his life by accidentally asking Sayaka out on a date.

I'm very curious to learn more about the secondary characters, so I hope there will be a sequel.

I really enjoyed this series. I relate to Tabata on a personal level andnknowing that she did not think of herself like that prior to that comment, goes to show just how much words truly have an impact.
Happy for the ending and hope a season 2 is made.

Completed. I still think Gotanda x Uguisudani or Tsutomu x Tabata had fun chemistry than Ueno x Tabata though.

But ngl, the ending was both hilarious yet cute, like wth was that slow chase scene lol

All things considered, this is a cute and wholesome romcom with believable, if not relatable character interactions & reactions.

Probably my show of the season

That's what we ask when we want to see a good anime romance, everything was good and the story ended like it should have Some people are gonna say "that's not very original" or "it's too basic," but that's not a problem because this anime is just that: a good romance with a classic story, and I like that!

I'm in Málaga, Spain, attending the San Diego Comic-Con, its first-ever event outside the United States. And even so, I had to watch this week's episode, the final one.

This girl's romance with Ueno-kun is easily one of the best of the season:

Loved it! This was the best couple in the whole series. She didn't settle for Ueno's best friend. She didn't even know they were that compatible. At this point, they already look like a married couple. After all, Tetsuo was always there for her, and she had her unique persona, just for him (because not even Ueno had the chance to see that once in the story):

BEAUTIFUL!!!!

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Tabata is great, even Ugu and Saya are interesting, however all the boys are boring, it's hard to ship any of the girls to any of the boys

that Akabane guy tho was interesting, he has potential with Tabata, he's flawed and has a lot of room for character development unlike Ueno who's almost too perfect with only flaws are superficial ones like being dense, heck even at the end he's super dense

God, for a second i was so worried they were about to completely fuck up the series. Luckily they pulled through. I was about to go on a whole tirade about how the series sidelining the MC mirrors how we feel in our own lives, when we get a chance to shine other people take the spotlight, and other stuff like that. XD

i'm still mad about the focus randomly shifting to the side characters in the last 2 episodes though. If i ever rewatch this, i'll probably skip those episodes. Without them, this would've been a 10/10 series, but they soured my watching experience enough to drop it to 9/10.

Screw it, this series is an eight in my heart and I'm going to rate it as such. I already really liked the manga, so chances were high that I was going to enjoy the anime. This series is a genuinely good time, the characters are lovely, and the budding romance between Tabata and Ueno is very cute. It's been fun getting to see the series brought to life through animation and voice acting these past few months!

Now I hope a team gets around to translating the rest of the manga...

A pure romantic comedy aimed at teens. It embodies the ideals and fantasies of adolescent girls lacking confidence in their appearance. While it might be rare in the US and European countries, young Japanese girls like this—girls who lack confidence in themselves—are actually quite common.

Just realizing I never commented on the last episode or that I forgot to mark it as completed oops.

This epsiode was so funny, Shinbashi literally wanted to dig a hole and die in it when he realized he didn't ask Sumire out.

Shinya is a dick for calling Tabata ugly, even tho he's not completely wrong. He's also really annoying for never apologizing and for being disappointed because he didn't get to apologize. Like, you had ample opportunities to apologize lmao

I'm really happy Tetsuo and Sumire are talking and possibly going to date. They're so cute together and he really notices small details about her. I will be mad if it doesn't go anywhere.

I really hate that Tabata has a horrible tendency of being like "no we aren't dating"!!!! or "no we aren't on a date!!!!" like bitch stfu, you should be honored to be in Ueno's presence and have someone like him fall in love with you. That was my biggest gripe with this anime.

I agree that Tabata was incredibly dull, but this shit is more likely to happen than people think lol sometimes personalities really do make up for the lack of visual appeal.

I really liked this anime though, more than the other romance this season. I'm sad its over and that it was incredibly underrated. Imo the only reason why it was underrated because CR, netflix, and other companies didn't pick it up. I had to go out of my way to watch this. I'm happy the score on this went up, but its still too low imo.

That was a great confession scene. Loved the worry from Tabata on her appearance as you wouldnt see that in any other romance with normal female leads.

It does suck that the confession, like usual, was at the very end of the series so we dont get to see them going out. Guess in that sense its an ad for the source material.

Overall great series. I was plently surprised to finish this so soon as I thought for sure this would be one of those seasonal series I put on hold until I come back to it waaaaay later. I'd say this is probably the first romance I've seen that focuses on a less attractive female lead that doesnt involve some glowup. ('Kiss Him Not Me' she has a huge glowup power so they never really utilized the fact she was originally less attractive)

I really enjoyed this series; it was slow-paced, but that was expected based on the two MCs. They finally came together through all the misunderstandings and are now dating... in secret (???). I wasn't happy about that part, as it defeats the whole purpose.

Overall, an 8/10, and I would love to have a second season.
