Kind of an underwhelming season finale imo. These last few episodes including this one was mostly focused on dealing with Shiki. Mudano was truly a man of words and wisdom this season, even some of his past moments were replayed again.

Nothing dramatic at all and felt like any other episode without some grand climax. They still threw in some lighthearted and comedic moments in this so the stakes didn't feel high. Well, I guess Shiki is going to have to move on with his life and decide on what to do next.

Well, what all that's happened, it's really a miracle for the remaining members alive, at least for Mudano to want to bring everyone to the negotation table for a consensus between Oni and Momotaro, which is quite the hurdle to cross at this point of time.

With Shiki saved from his Enki transformation that nearly put him to death, and Masumi ready to hand over the reins to Kaoru since the loss of his right leg due to Shiki going berserk, Kyoya being here to finally fix Shiki up as Mikado made his amends with Shinya acknowledging him amidst his nefarious plan to pit him against Shiki, it'd better be the blessings that they're even alive up to this point. With Shiki's Kishin blood restoring his life as the Flame Oni Enki, to think that the power he exerted is only 10% of his total power, and with his regeneration being faster than the usual Kishin that puts his life at risk if he goes overboard, it's control that Shiki needs to master, otherwise he would face death early.

With the deeds done, Kyoya transferring to Rasetsu Academy to supervise Shiki's development, as they bid farewell to Masumi, and even to Mikado who went through all that pain for himself to get used by Shinya, Shiki was truly acting like his friend all the time, unabashedly unashamed at that. Even both Osuke and Tsukuyomi managing to recover to want revenge another time, as the students finally head back to Rasetsu for their next training.

Shiki's family grave being nearby Mudano visitng the grave of the Oni, as is his tattoo adding up whenever someone else dies, which is not a good proposition. Yet, Shiki acting all cocky to want Mudano to train him harder from now on, let's see if the teacher can uphold the promise...in the sequel.

The Nerima Arc for the 2nd Cour is REALLY quite the drag for a Shonen series, that tore everything that was decent about the 1st Cour apart.
Hopefully the sequel can be different and not feel so shallow...

And so we end the Nerima arc, and this first season, with some aftermath-style healing both physically and emotionally, a friendship restored, a graveside visit and most importantly: some pubic hair jokes.

This show was...fine. I never really ended up liking or connecting with it as much as I'd hoped, but in a weaker anime season I could see myself watching a hypothetical season two. Assuming one comes. I've gone on record in previous episode threads regarding my largest takeaways. Namely, that the pacing of these first two large arcs felt rather messy and that for the vast majority of the show the biggest positive for me seemed to be how nearly every female character had big, beautiful tits. Hell, that still might have been the biggest positive by the end(heh.) But yeah, 6/10.

EDIT: I see a continuation HAS been announced already, huh? Well like I said, I may check it out. We'll see.

This anime would be a phenomenon if it airs 20 years ago, could even establish a franchise. But right now it's not different than other anime in the market, maybe it's just a little bit gayer, which is nice, but not enough in year 2025 anymore.

The chibis are too cutie.

The excitement every week i felt (★^O^★) from summer to fall, thanks, I'm so delighted.

And now they've announced Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, omfg I'm literally crying, Hayate and the others are coming kyaaaaaaaaaaa..

Despite the good and bad by people, idc, me personally, i love Tougen Anki, i adore them ♡
And I'm super happy to see them being animated in the very first place.

Really-really until we meet again (^v^)

Of course, the MC survives and everyone is happy.

Welp, Tougen Stinki (😏) has to be the bare bones of what a Shounen needs to at least provide. But when you're against other airing shounens like Gachiakuta, you're always gonna be compared and belittled. Kinda surprised a sequel has already been announced.

Now, everyone say thank you for the MAL Tougen Anki Badge. 🙏☂️

I feel like this was a really nice episode to end things up for this 1st season of the anime.

We got a nice conclusion for the Nerima arc, which, in my opinion, was much better than the previous arc.
Kyouya makes a reappearance! Good to see him back! I actually mentioned some episodes ago how he was probably going to be the one to save Ikari (and now he's saving Shiki too).
Seeing Shiki all burned up was hard to see, but it reminded me of Attack on Titan (if you know, you know).

They also finally gave some more info about Kishin's children. The 1st part we all already knew about, but Kyouya now gave us the information that all of this power comes with a cost, and that cost seems to be that all of Kishin's children die at an early age, some even in their teens.
That certainly isn't good for Shiki, considering Momotarou won't leave him alone, and he'll need to use Enki's powers more and more. All of this reminded me, once again, of Attack on Titan though.

The most interesting part is when Shiki leaves the room after being embarassed of everyone seeing his privates (I feel, I think only the medical staff and maybe the teachers saw it) and sharing that he was pubeless, but in reality he leaves the room to be able to reflect about the idea that he might be close to dying "in his teens". I think this section showed a bit more of nuance to Shiki's character, that was honestly needed, an information lika that would affect anyone. I found it interesting he was worried to die in his teens, since Shiki is 17 according to the manga, so he's almost out of his teenage years, but I get the idea, dying in your 20s is not nice either.
But can we talk about how Jin followed him, so that he could cheer up Shiki? That was really cute, and a payoff of the development we saw between the 2 some episodes ago. Shiki even blushed after that. I swear, these 2 are going to be another Naruto and Sasuke, a could be couple, that never goes forth because the manga/anime doesn't want to be a Yaoi/BL (and considering that the author really likes BLs, I feel like these moments are going to be more common).

Not the green-haired guy stating to Homare that he was pubeless too... Like, why do they have to make the character like that?

Anyways, we then finally get the Mikado and Shiki reconciliation I was really looking foward to. Honestly, I was expecting something a bit better. I wasn't expecting Shiki to hold grudges towards Mikado, so that's on character, but I was expecting something more personal, and not in front of all of the other Oni, and a rather quick talk too, I wanted something a bit more developed.

We finally end the Nerima arc, and after the ending credits, I noticed we still have 4 minutes left, so I was curious to see what was going to happen. We finally see Shiki going to visit his father at the grave, something they mention in episode 2, and never showed later. So I'm glad they ended this season on that note. Not only that, BUT WOW, MUDANO HAS TATTOOS? As expected, Mudano also carries a lot of tragic stories with him, and Shiki's speech, while a bit corny, it was cute and certainly appreciated by Mudano.
I feel like this last scene was a really good way to end the season, by showing a bit more of the characters, instead of just ending with "well, the Nerima arc is over now".

So, this is it, no more weekly dose of Tougen Anki. I'm honestly going to miss this anime. As I said many times before, although the anime is generic, the writing is not the best many times, and it has an exaggerated design of female characters, I somehow really enjoyed it.
The biggest problems with these anime I would say are 2. The first one is the power scalling. Making Shiki defeat a Momotarou captain so early on still seems to be not a great idea for the long run. For this Nerima arc it still worked, but I'm not sure if the power scalling isn't going to be all weird in the next arcs.
The 2nd problem is the hypersexualization of the design of the female characters. It's just disturbing in a way honestly, and the fact that this is common for all the important female characters is not good at all.
But taking those 2 away, the anime does a good job at being a Battle Shounen. While it uses a lot of common troupes, the truth is that they work and make the story entertaining, and you can clearly see it's more inspirated by "older" Shounen shows, like Naruto, and honestly, it also gives this anime a bit of nostalgic feeling to it.

One thing this anime deserves more recognition is with the skills of each character. They were so far all unique, and the battles ended up always looking really cool. Even while not having the best animation, and having to rely on CGI, they did a good job with it, and the final product ended up really cool and fluid. Also, while some of the characters are, well, questionable (looking at you green-haired guy), some others were really cool, like Mudano, and even Shiki does a good job at being a protagonist.

As I said, I personally don't really know why I enjoyed this anime as much as I did, I guess it's just one of those anime that clicks with you, and in this case, Tougen Anki is one of those anime for me. Taking into consideration also the bad and mid aspects the anime also has, I'm going to give it a 7/10. For me it's almost an 8/10, especially after this 2nd cour, but I have to take in consideration that the 1st cour had some major flaws in its storetelling (and I'm repeating, THE POWERSCALLING).
I also have to thank Tougen Anki for giving us 2 of the best anime openings of the year "Overnight" and "Amidakuji". "Overnight" by The Oral Cigarettes in particular is so good, my favorite opening of the year, and my most heard song of the year too. That is a big win for Tougen Anki in my books! The OST is also incredibly good! I really recommend checking it out! Kohta Yamamoto did an amazing job!

At this point I would start saying "Oh, I hope we're getting a 2nd season for this anime, since I really had a good time following these weekly episodes", but there's no need!
Tougen Anki's 2nd season has already been confirmed, and I'm really happy about that! I'm going to be waiting for it quite eagerly! I'm curious to see how the story develops here on out! Also, the teaser showed a new character, that is already giving vibes that is going to be really powerful. I'm also curious to see if in this 2nd season we're seeing another Kishin child!

As a final suggestion, I recommend for those who don't to watch the mini episodes that they released alongside the anime, that you can find on their YouTube channel with English subs! It's called Onimomomomo. Some of the episodes develop more some of the characters, and they are only 2 minutes long, so totally worth to check them out!

It was a pleasure to discuss the episodes of Tougen Anki every week with all of you! For those who plan to see the 2nd season, I plan to see you there!
Also, is there any manga reader that can tell in which volume/chapter the anime stopped with this 1st season?

Meh, it went with every shounen cliché in the book at the end and conpletely lost all of it's momentum. MC and Momotaro should just have kissed at the end to make all of this ridiculousness worthwhile.

One of the worst modern shonen i’ve seen.

Zero depth in world building, zero depth in story, zero depth in characters, especially lame bloodthirsty antagonists. The only passable thing was action and I don’t believe this is enough for the show to be mildly popular, but sadly it seems like it is. 3.5/10

Thank God this bullshit is over. Another series that wasted 6 months of my life. Arguably the most generic battle shonen of all time with its only memorable trait being the yaoi bait teasing. CGI was dogshit, MC is annoying, story feels like it was written by an AI that was given the prompt “make a modern battle shonen and make it sound human”.

They tried to keep us locked in with the big tiddy fanservice shit in the first cour, but no matter how much you dress a turd, it’s still a turd. I have NO idea how this got another season, but I will NOT be there. They really spent the whole second cour dealing with this forced doomed yaoi gimmick for two people that met and knew each other for all of 2 days lmaoo. Good riddance. Waste of a Yamamoto Kohta ost.

First half was bad, as in, really bad. (As in, a 4/10 AT MOST)
Second half was pretty decent, though.
You could maybe argue that it was a bit dragged out due to how many episodes it took, but it didn't feel like that while watching it.

Yeah, it still has issues, and comparing it to the other shounen in the same season, Gachiakuta, just shows how weak it is... but contrary to the rest here, that second arc showed me that there's promise in this anime (Though most of the cast got sidelined this arc), so I'm giving it a light-6/10.

🌟🌟🌟🌟FINISHED🌟🌟🌟🌟 This anime Touhen Anki is probably the MOST GENERIC shounen anime, maybe that's the intention, unlike Gachiakuta which is a shounen anime but has a different plot from most shounen. Even so, I still enjoyed watching it from episode 1 to 24. Enjoyable is the most important thing. I give this anime a rating of 7.0/10❤️. By the way, this anime has been confirmed to get a season 2, just check it on MyAnimeList."

Honestly the number of people bitching that this is another generic battle shonen should surprise me, but it doesn't. Like I'm sorry but if you don't enjoy that kind of thing why are you even here? Go watch something else. Crying that other anime do better at subverting shonen tropes really just proves you have no idea why those tropes are there to be subverted in the first place. I'll give you a hint: it's not because they're unpopular or uninteresting. In order for another story to say something new and different in a given category, there has to be a baseline for them to be new and different from. That's how storytelling works.

If you look at this as what it is, a generic feels-good battle shonen, it's great. It does exactly what that kind of story needs to do: overpowered underdog MC who's a bit of a dimwit, power of friendship saves the day, homoerotic tension with the main rival, it nails everything. The only trope it tries to subvert, in making the protagonists the societal "bad guys", it does well too, positioning the Momotaro as the elite forces fighting to save humanity from the berserk demons and still making sure you know they're not in the right.

I could sit here and write another thousand words about Tougen Anki's storytelling choices and how it plays into its genre so well, but I don't need to. The people who understand that already know, and the people who don't want to aren't going to give a shit. So I'll eagerly await the second season while laughing at all the snobs who are mad that it gets one.

Fairy Tail is a generic feel-good battle shonen, and its head and shoulders above this. Being generic isn't its problem.

This is generic and *bad*. Failure at almost every level, besides a few cool powers and I guess anime boobs.

It was simple, generic, but it was honest. At least I didn't feel like this anime was trying to be the new "mainstream shounen slop", which made me enjoy it. Don't know if I'll be watching the sequel, but this first season was enjoyable, at least.

I’m very pleased with the conclusion of this first season.

It’s great to see Jin demonstrate his growth by showing concern for Shiki. He knew immediately that Shiki wasn’t feeling well and managed to motivate him even more.

In addition, Mikado and Shiki were able to salvage their friendship, and I’m glad to see them speak one last time before the end of the season. Hopefully, these two can create a bridge between Oni and Momotaro.

aside from that, it was an enjoyable shounen. Top 3 for my season.

The problem isn't that it's generic it's that it's bad.

The story sucks, the characters are all one-dimensional and annoying, the antagonists suck, and the fights and animation aren't even good.

@thewiru ah funny for me Gachiakuta is the worst of the two because it fail to deliver a final fight with actual tension while as Tougen Anki not that much better handled his tension better by limiting who you were seeing in action.

Haven't they already explained the whole kishin thing? Also I never expected Mudano to be inked like that, those stripes on his face weren't really an obvious giveaway. Anyway, it's a good watch thought has a lot of cringe shit especially when Mikado showed up. Has a lot of used up shounen tropes also.

Still u can rly tell by the blushes and smiles Yuri (the author) has done BL before XD

Okay I'll give it a 2 out of 10 for an okay final episode. I am starting to see some upside with this show but I need more as this season was a mess overall.
I had to change this because some loser couldn't make an actual argument. So....yeah I hope you guys like the new sig.

Nah, this is garbage. I actually liked the start, even though it was generic af. But, instead of spending time developing characters they just jumped into one battle arc after another. If this anime/manga had some sort of "school arc" training, it would be a different story. A better one.

This was a good finale and just needed some action, but I enjoyed this anime!! 9/10 for me since that last arc was hard to sit through with barely any fighting. Can't wait for season 2 and maybe be better with more action!!

I really enjoyed this. Love the concept, the chemistry between the class members were nice to watch, the art style was amazing, and animation was pretty good. I will always love the school + fantasy genre, it's a soft spot for me, so I really enjoyed this. Season 2 has already been announced, so I am excited for it. W ANIME!!🔥🔥💯🙌✅️

Mikado should've just trusted himself from the start instead of the manipulative asshole. Mikado will be a huge instrumental force in trying to change momotaro

As a side note, where are the helicopters, police, firemen, etc???

What sucks is that Shiki and the other NPCs never got sufficient training and were never supposed to be directly involved in fighting, but of course creepy eyes blames Shiki.

So are Mikado and Shiki going to continue being friends or?

------Final review------
My biggest rant about this anime, is that we learned more about the momotaro after their death than Shiki's classmates. We were given essentially 0 information on the oni. This makes a lot of the side characters feel like NPCs and will be easily forgettable. All I know about the pink haired girl is that she has awful anxiety and can't control her sister/ability. I guess that's typical for a pink haired girl in shonen though </3

A lot of the abilities were wasted despite having a lot of potential if used wisely. I don't understand why it took 22 episodes for something interesting to finally start. Overall, the animation was okay but the fight scene in episode 23 was the best out of the entire season. Truly a shame.

This anime would've done better if they trimmed down the character list, combined the abilities of them into a few people, and didn't follow the classic shonen tropes.

Truly a mid anime, that I'm giving a 5/10

Second half of this series was awful. And Shiki is not really a likeable or groundbreaking protagonist. Just your average hot headed nakama fanatic MC. 4/10

Despite the utterly ridiculous premise (bacteria forming barriers? weapons? in accordance with a drawn taro card? I mean, what...? and average human looking bodies producing oceans of blood on short notice without dying or even collapsing? <-- for which Mudano is the worst offender btw) and while there were some episodes, mostly in the middle, that dragged, overall it was pretty fun - just unabashed mindless battle shounen fun, which is in short supply these days, with some bouts of misery porn and cartoonish villains who still manage to be at least somewhat fun. So much fun, in fact, that I, unable to wait for s2 to release, took up the manga and caught up to the latest chapter (257 atm). Now I'm excited for s2, it should cover a pretty solid battle arc in the same style.

If I had to nitpick the anime (setting aside the fact that the original material is what it is), besides the weird pacing of some of the middle episodes, I'd say what was the most jarring was the excessive use of bad CG on characters. If you watch through it with only half a mind, it's probably not as offensive, but I've been rewatching some of the better episodes with full attention and it was glaring. Oh well, can't have everything perfect, I guess, and using that kind of budget-saving CG allowed for better animation to be allotted to some of the more interesting fights. My favorite is probably Mudano vs Ousuke the hentai, that was exciting and well choreographed.
