Well, Charlie is half human but seems he's smarter than the average human. But yeah, it's hard to imagine him living a normal life just because of what he is. Not to mention, there's people coming after him. His encounter with Lucy draws a relationship that can be potentially complex because of how different they are. A very interesting premise imo, with a lot of potential. Charlie's character study this anime should take time to explore imo, because he's easily the intriguing character.

Miss me with that Beastars furry bs, anime has truly peaked with this invention. Jokes aside, this was way more wholesome than I expected. I thought it’d be the usual “he’s a dirty animal, not like us humans” angle that these shows always push, but nope. That alone was a nice breath of fresh air. Also, everyone is absolutely thirsting over my guy here. I’m like 99% sure he’s a dude, even if it’s never fully spelled out. And yeah, he’s kind and all, but don’t mess with him cause dude's a straight menace. The way he answered that bum’s question about the rat and basically said he’d shoot him on the spot xD Wholesome, interesting, and honestly way better than expected. Yeah, this one’s definitely going in the book. I’m all in for more.

Mangaka Shun Umezawa's series that takes a page off of Charles Darwin's evolutionary biology, this is certainly interesting at best. Pair this with yet another brand new studio at that, and it gives the anime quite the unique look. Official HIGE DANdism's OP is rather OK though... Literally, I'm seeing Curious George through the human-chimpanzee hybrid of Charlie Stein, though him being in the human society, which by that point of tine, had been widely accepted as one experiment in the works. And it's one experiment good enough to send him to school, where he would meet someone similar to him: the girl of Lucy Eldred. As expected of humans when it comes to treating animal hybrids, some like Lucy can treat him right, while others have disdain for him. But when a terrorist act goes awry from the very same facility where he came from, the eco-terrorist organization of the Animal Liberation Alliance, things take a turn for the topsy-turvy... Quite the intriguing setup for what's to come...

Average vegan activities xD There's almost no vegan representation in anime, actually most anime celebrate eating meat, so it's cool to have a series with vegan themes for a change. Although, it's a pretty extreme one featuring a radical animal rights group who has declared war. In the middle of all of that you have Charlie trying to live a normal life. Read the first chapter a while ago and I'm interested to see how this series will play out. So far the best start this season.

Looks a little bit too stiff and unpolished at times. Some of the cuts are also awkward and disorienting. We also have some Initial D ps1 plastic cars thrown in there for good measure lol. Even so, It's got a nice vibe/feeling to it, i hope it gets better!

Out of all the new anime airing, this one I have the most hopes for, as someone with a background in natural sciences(specifically marine biology but I know my zoology too) I am excited for the ethical and scientific dilemma that will be brought up in this series, however, the whole vegan terrorist antagonist we're currently seeing has dissapointed me, It's based on the animal liberation front, which itself isn't vegan but aims for the abolishment of animal cruelty, which itself is a noble goal, unfortunately the organization in the series has been reduced to "human bad, animal good" and the association with vegans is probably meant to push the viewer into hating this villain more and more, which isn't a bad thing, but it takes away the notion that maybe they aren't the bad guys. Charlie himself on the other hand is very interesting, you can tell from the interactions shown in this episode, especially the mouse disease dilemma the other guy said, that he's definitely smarter than any chimpanzee, and very much smarter than many humans, his interactions with his parents, imo are meant to show us how "deep" his thinking goes and characterize him as more than just a freak of nature, Overall if the anime keeps going like this it will be a good and enjoyable watch. If it turns into romance for any reason other than to stir up ethical questions and stuff like that, I'll drop it because HOW CAN YOU HAVE A PREMISE THIS GOOD AND FUCK UP LATER.

A character who is half human, half monkey, some very strange experiences.. The episode shows how this being came into existence and how he eventually arrived at high school. It seems he had already had a previous experience in the education system when he was younger, one that ended badly. The themes of difference and inclusion are central here, along with the struggle of standing out from the majority. They say they found him again after 15 years, but he was already circulating on social media before that. If they wanted to use him for their cause, they could have tracked him much earlier, and they’ll likely try to bring him over to their side. Overall, it’s not unpleasant, but it’s definitely odd. The ending is visually underwhelming, even outright disappointing, especially in how it seems to cater to fetishistic appeal.

I was thinking "I dont want to watch another DOG + girl romance type of anime again" (btw just traumatized after 1st ep, so i didnt watch that anime ) but after watching full ep of this. I understood the CORE concept of this anime. and I think its an INTERESTING TOPIC. (Core topic: Veiwing the meaning of LIFE from both human and animal prespective) I will continue watching this. it will be INTERESTING.

I couldn't read much of the info on those newspaper clippings about the incident. Lucy seems to be a decent girl who respects Charlie. At least Charlie is attracting all girls even if the guys hate him. |

Interesting start, show seems about modern problems and their groups in the west with a big twist, Charlie seems pretty chill but it feels like he don't really care much about his "human life", i liked the discussion about the deadly animal and how to consider it compared to other life forms, something to think about Also best opening of the season for now, so good

Kitty will come down when he's damn good and ready! Even in America, we still can't escape high school. Charlie is a very interesting character. All this philosophy behind animals and nature is something I hope he'll explore. I was worried about him fitting in, but he's already threatened to shoot someone on his first day of class, so he's doing pretty good in that regard. Lucy also seems like a nice character that I want to see more of. Animal rights terrorists declaring war on humanity... Good shit, I'm hooked.

This anime reminds me that this is a highly competitive season with many anime have the potential to be anime of the season, and some of them might even turn into anime of the year. And yes, Darwin Incident is a strong candidate. The name "Charlie" seems to be inspired by Charles Darwin while the name "Lucy" was inspired by AL 288-1.

| Very unique premise and i believe, this is gonna turn explosive soon with the terrorists and the MC. I have a feeling that the humanzee is gonna do some fucked up shit at first, just a hunch. | I picked this series up after reading the first volume in a store a couple years ago, not a bad start but the animation is definitely a little stiff at times (also CGI for cars and background NPCs is something I've grown tired of but whatever). It may come off a bit heavy handed, especially at the beginning, but I enjoyed the manga up to the point I read it (volume 4), just sucks that the translated chapters are only available once a full volume is released. |

@Niwaka-Samurai ALA mentioned turning the mother chimpanzee over to a vet, so I'm assuming his adoptive parents are part of some science institute who took him in afterwards to raise and observe him.

Amazing ep Dr. Grossman freaky asl. Nice to see that Darwin's parents raised him with true love. Love the world-building already. Darwin alr aurafarming with that swift save 😂 Great to see that Lucy isn't like the others. Had a feeling that guy would be a annoying. Tho, Darwin basically threatened him without actually doing anything. Wonder why they need Charlie? Is it just to utilize his strength? 10/10

wow, very good depiction of an American public school. That was just the right amount of stupid. I appreciate an anime that dips its toes in divisive themes, but I don't know how to feel about the obvious compensation for the radical Peta people by having Reta's Ozzy make the dumbest attempt at dismantling veganism to then be shocked at the logical outcome of his own argument, self defense. I guess that's how a dumbass public schooled leftie that is not vegan would operate irl though, so not too bad.

Maybe I was watching with my eyes closed or blinked at the wrong moment but ep 1 seems kinda silly. A freak of nature that's never been experienced before is born with the government and scientists just shrugging and saying "huh that's weird" and letting it live like a person just seems unlikely. It seems even less likely to let him go to school or even just go in public without protection from some agency since he's a 1 of 1 being, especially since he's famous. I could also just be a bit too critical for a first episode...

I have to say the setting taking place in America is very interesting for an anime, outside of that I'm curious what direction this anime is going to go? Charlie a hybrid chimpanzee and human and Lucy seem to be our protagonist with the strange ALA group after them. I already like the strange questions and hypotheticals Charlie had to answer this episode.

| I found it very interesting; it seems to be one of those anime that makes you think. At one point, I even wondered: how the hell does an animal rights organization have enough power to orchestrate terrorist attacks? Bruh. Charlie seems like a very interesting character to me. I'm very intrigued by what his life was like during those 15 years that pass from the beginning of the story until that moment. | Well, as someone with an otaku-esque interest in evolutionary biology, who was deeply intrigued by the Soviet humanzee experiments of the 1920s when I first learned of them, and having been always fascinated with the concept of cross-breeding/hybridization and genetic splicing between two or more different species, including the human species with other species, I figured that this would be one of the more interesting new series I've seen in a while and the first episode didn't disappoint in that regard and seems to be setting up a number of things which will develop and come to a boil later on. This was my most anticipated new series of the season and the entire year for a reason. Now, whether it will be something leaning more into being substantively thought-provoking with scenarios/dilemmas and dialogue to provide fuel for ruminating on long after the episode is over, more dramatic and tense scene to scene in the moment as a social thriller with elements of action and drama, or more emotionally resonant with the feelings and relationships between the human and humanzee main characters being the core and taking center stage, it's tough to say, but ideally all of the above. Although from a production standpoint I feel as if this a series which will probably just be matter of fact/run-of-the-mill and kind of straightforward and cut and dry and not really have some kind of crazy purposeful artistic A-level direction which would elevate it to some masterpiece status and instead rely on being carried by the meat of the writing and inherent fascination of the premise itself. Which, while that kind of direction and vision would always be more than welcome, I always emphasize that writing is the beating heart and ultimately most important part of any series and story to me, which is true. As long as it's the case that they expand and develop outward writing-wise from pure reliance on the amazing novelty of the premise. |
