THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Even though they kept showing Reinhard as being ill it never crossed my mind that what he had was incurable. After all that fighting it's a less than 'glorious' way to have to go. I don't think he's even seen his son yet.

Reinhard mentioned at one point about being cursed from the Goldenbaum Dynasty. Considering his illeness became most severe during the anniversary of Yang's death he might want to change that around.

So many people lost their lives. Merkatz, Schenkopp, and even Mashengo. After all those deaths I thought they'd axe Poplan but it looks like he'll survive to womanize another day. Still it's sad how so many more died in that bloodbath ;_;

By far one of the most epic episodes in the whole series. Very sad and emotional too, even though he didn't seem to get a lot of development and screen time, I got kind of teary when Merkatz went. The narrator pointing out his battley history being twice Reinhard's and Yang's combined was incredible. I suspected Schenkopp was going to die at some point ... what a way to go, he was a beast. Felt bad for Mashengo, that guy was one hell of a bodyguard, and I was really worried they'd axe Poplan myself ... phew (am I watching Gundam? heh..)

I assume things will quiet down from here, but I fear the worst for Reinhard ... and he hasn't even seen his son yet.

Damn, so many great characters dead in just one episode, it shows just how desperate the battle was, even Schenkopp died, I was completely surprised, such a pity, I really wanted him to live on and make up with his daughter and besides I honestly thought this guy was invulnerable... well, at least he had one of the most awesome deaths in the series, up there with Reuenthal's.

What happened to Linz though... did he die too? It wasn't all that clear wether the ceasefire orders came in time to save his life... after Schenkopp's death he was the last of the important Rosenritter left... and since the regiment was decimated it would be so nice if he at least got out alive.

Holy crap, everyone is just dying. Thats one of the things I like with this series though, noone is immune to death in a boring and predictable way.

Goddammit, Schenkopp was such a beast, why did he have to die?!! After Reuenthal died, he was the last character that was overflowing with epic manliness...such a shame. Oh well, at leased his death was just as epic and manly as his character.

Shivers and shrugs: This is what I'm feeling at the moment, I can't believe all that bloodshed they have been through, a tear came when I saw Schenkopp diying.

I'm speechless at the moment.

Indeed, Louis Mashengo left with a line as epic as any other in this show, "Humans can't go against their fate."

*salutes*

After him, followed two manly men of overwhelming manliness, Willibald Joachim von Merkatz and Walter von Schenkopp.

Merkatz ultimately died in the way he wanted, at his Kaiser's hands.

*salutes*

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Schenkopp, though he died while ripping though those guards like paper. It's sad to know that he'll never be able to attend his daughter's wedding nor be there to become a grandfather.

*salutes*

That aside, it's doubly saddening to know that Reinhard is suffering from what appears to be an incurable disease, in that sense, he'll be following Yang by not living his ideal end by falling in battle. This just goes to reinforce the idea that nothing goes truly as planned, whether it be in battle or elsewhere.

Now, to see what fruits Julian's efforts have brought...

Amazing.

Some amazing characters have been killed. Mashengo and his "Humans cannot go against their fate" catch phrase will be one of my favorites from LoGH.

Damn, too many deaths in this episode :(
Mashengo, Merkatz and Schenkopp, I don't even know for which one I grieve the most. Julian will not be happy about this too...
But I'm glad Poplan survived, it would have been too much if everyone on Brunhild besides Julian died.
Also I think I have an idea what Julian wants to offer to Rainhard, but I'll keep quiet and wait how it turns out.
I probably regret this post by now.

What a tragedic episode, but yet so fascinating.
First Merkatz death, then Mashengo offered his life to protect Julian.
Then most of the remaining Rosen Ritters lost their lives. They give time to the empire-defecting people to say a few words of how they were happy of their life and their death, like they give it to imperial admirals. I don't remember this kind of thing for FPA apart from Bucock, but maybe my memory fails after so many episodes.

Julian was right from the start when he understood that he had to prove that democracy was worth by shedding blood, and it's funny to see that Mittermeyer only seemed to understand it, when his kaiser asked him to let Julian come at the cost of his own efforts and bravery.

yeah kill everyone, how convenient, now it feels like i'm watching Clannad all over again xD(orzel bait /end)

no i was kidding :p...but seriously,first Merkats,then the black guy...and afterwards Schenkopp???

I only cared much from the FPA people from Brunhild for Julian,Poplan and Schenkopp...couldn't they have let all of them live? :(

and Lohengramm ofcourse he was sitting like a damn spoiled kid waiting for Julian there...that's it,i want him dead...may space aids kill him ^^
although in the same time i don't want him dead because the kid will have to grow up without a father :\...i really don't know

5/5,and this was the 2nd best episode from all lotgh IMO,i wonder why so few replies

Poplan threw a grenade instead of fighting with an axe, while Mashengo was shot to death (and not even by projectile weapons). These two things make every instance of axe-fighting and ship-boarding totally fucking retarded, as if they already weren't.

Something is bugging me. Just watching this episode for a second time and when Julian meets Reinhard and collapses because of exhaustion Reinhard says, 'This is the second man who has come to me and collapses, isn't it Muller?'

Who was the first? As if it was Kircheis, why did it sound to flippant and why not address to Mittermeyer?

Have I totally overlooked something?

I'm pissed they killed off someone like Schelenkopp before Poplan. I wanted Poplan to die, if someone had to go. But considering the temptation for making an impact, Schelenkopp was regrettably the better choice.

Well there goes the only remaining Iserlohn person that I liked. :( Oh, there's still Frederica.

I seriously can't bring myself to like Julian. He was cute as a housekeeper and as long as Yang was alive, but right now he's just annoying. He invades the Kaiser's ship violently and when the Kaiser's guards kill his bodyguard he goes on a rage as though he'd been wronged?! *sigh*

Reinhard getting killed by that illness is not something I want transpire. And seriously, how retarded are those doctors assigned to Reinhard? They saw nothing for years, but after being threatened by Mecklinger they discover what's wrong with him within an hour?! ugh. just ugh.

Merkatz was a legend.
I actually liked Mashengo's fate speech, I know it was cliche but I liked it.
Shenkopp!!! ;-; he was my favorite from Iserlohn! What an epic death, soo epic and sad ;-;
And what's this disease? Everything seems too suspicious :/
And Finally, seriously Julian? So he just went straight to Brunhilde, attacked and now he wants to talk...I don't know, I just can't like this 'plan or tactic' or whatever he want to call it.

Back in episode 17, when Siegfried and Yang met for a prisoner exchange at Iserlohn, I found myself waiting for the inevitable meeting of their counterparts, Julian and Reinhard. That, of course, was when Julian was Siegfried's counterpart, before the latter's death. Now, 91 episodes later, circumstances have evolved -- and the character of Julian has evolved -- in such a way to make that meeting all the more significant. What a powerful scene.

This ought to be fun
so apparently the invincible plot armor gang known as the rosenritter got owned for some reason, when they usually destroy enemies 10times their numbers and a lot more skilled in close combat than the ones they fought here, what's funny is how people die in this show, most of the time there is a better choice but they just go and die.
what's even more funny, is the ending how they want to stop the battle to avoid any more bloodshed

Rosenritter got lost this time because this battle is a little different with the battles before this, befores they fought at Zephyr Particle where using of laser gun is impossible..

Nice strategy and nice luck again from and for Julian at how way he was to infiltrates Brunhild..

They are actually not invincible; they just appear to be. They do in fact suffer from losses in most engagements (besides their famous capture of Iserlohn Fortress in episode 7) and attrition has taken a toll on them after the Battle of Vermilion where they were no longer reinforced. Boarding the Brünhild was a already a risky move by itself, as it is to be expected that it would be protected by the best Imperial troops. Despite all those disadvantages, the Rosenritter arguably still fared pretty well, and Schönkopf was only brought down due to a combination of fatigue and bad luck. And in the end, they succeeded in their objective of buying time for Julian anyway.

It's super sad that Reinhard will probably never get to lead a normal life with his family (I actually think he was coming around to the idea of it) but on the other hand, I'm glad he wasn't killed then and there. I'm surprised though that the entire Rosenritter was wiped out, and that Julian just barely made it to the Kaiser . . . I really thought they would be in tremendous danger, but had they tried more thoroughly to stop it, they easily could have . . . Anyways alot of important people died this episode.

That Reinhard wanted a war before negotiations just for proof that the Iserlohn forces have enough conviction, and to finally stop it for Julian's eloquence... it seems whimsical and I thought he's not exempt from the idea that people become pro-war the farther they are from the frontline. But then again, a war is inevitable when Julian and co. are unwilling to surrender. They paid a heavy price, though. RIP, Schenkopp :( and Mashengo and Merkatz.

Reinhard's illness has no known cure. That's disappointing :|

Rip Legendary Admiral Merkatz, I liked you from the beginning and you never dissapointed. Without you Yang Wenli's resistance would not have been possible.

Rip "Frieza" Mashengo, you are the most badass black man in Anime ever. You earned my respect right from the get go when you protected Frederica from the scum PKA. I only wish you could have protected Yang at the most crucial of moments. You made up for it partially by saving Julian at the end, like you always did.

Rip Badboy "Invincible" von Schenkop, you always did what was necessary, and said what was necessary. If only Yang would have heeded your words of usurping power.. Your combat prowess was legendary, you have no equal in that regard in Logh. You also have the best looking and coolest daughter ever in anime, so the fruit of your works bore fruit in all regards.

Deaths were abundant and tragic here. Did it have to be this way? In the LOGH world sadly yes..

Finally Schenkopp died. This should have happened around 90 episodes ago. Rosenrittens were very boring to watch as they always won.

Reinhard was glorious in the end of episode. Just sitting there waiting for Julian to come to meet him. :D I think Julian should give some respect to Reinhard since he conquered whole galaxy and not just whine about how he is autocratic leader... Autocratic or not, you should give respect when it is due.
