Interesting episode. Although it might seem that there are many unanswered questions and it may seem to be slow, in my opinion the director has done a very good job in creating the atmosphere that wraps around you and before you realize you feel you're living in the same world with the characters. I'm liking this anime so far.

That explains why that Ran (the little girl) was breathing heavy in the last episode, she could sense something bad was going to happen before it happened.

I agree, the director has done quite a good job here at creating the atmosphere, the way it's executed really does draw you in, making you want to watch the next episode. You could almost tell from episode one that Ran had an ability like seeing the future by the way her eyes enlarged every time something was gonna happen. I can't help but wonder what the guy who's had one of his legs and arms cut off has done to anger the organisation type group who seem to have a lot of power in Lux.

Can't really fault the anime so far, I like the slow build up and hope it continues in this fashion.

Still extremely difficult to tell what's going on, but the atmospheric approach is fine for now.

Important characters at the moment seem to be Ran, the guy who got his limbs chopped off, and the traveler guy whose name I forget. I'm interested to see whether these three will meet up, or if the story will follow them separately.

wat. Stop having dialogue. :|

I don't think the show is hard to follow at all, this dialogue thingie the director just discovered seems to have been proven an overeffective means of getting information to us viewers.

I don't think episode 2 was terribly dialog heavy, except maybe in comparison to the first episode. And even then dialog they've been dishing out doesn't feel like obvious EXPOSITION TIME NAO!

In fact, I'm still not sure whether this guy

is mute or not. And he's probably the main character, if I had to pick one.

lol, yes. I just preferred the nigh-dialogue-less first episode. Was refreshing not having things we could tell with our eyes repeated to us via speech. I dunno though, is there anything which at all is important to understanding what's going on which we haven't been told? I'm pretty sure we know, as of yet, everything we need to know.

Just not a single bit more than that, though.

I was convinced Ran was mute until she spoke a few sentences, though. Well, not that there was much of a difference.

I don't mind the lack of dialog, but iirc, that's sort of the same approach that the script writer took with Lain. And while Lain was an enjoyable series overall, it felt like he ran out of things to NOT say after a few episodes and we got stuck with a bunch of stylized power line montages while waiting for the climax. I worry that problem would be multiplied in a series twice as long, so I'm okay with a different approach in Texhnolyze.

Now let's see if I can summarize the important information we've been given to get it straight in my head:

- There's obviously a caste system in place, with the main character being called a "dog", not being allowed to get his limbs replaced, and forced to participate in what I assume are gladiatorial activities

- There's a religious organization of some sort running the show and kicking around the "baby gangs"

- Ran is a precog who works for... someone.

- There's a traveler guy who comes from somewhere better. I'm not sure what that means, but what comes to mind is a situation like FF7's Midgar.

- Texhnolization is apparently the same thing as cyberization

...that's actually more than I thought I knew about what was going on, heh. Still not sure about most of those things, but that's about normal for episode 2, I suppose.

And of course
- There's some Salvation Union, which seems to be a religious order, and the seemingly more yakuza-like Organo, and they do not seem to be on good terms.
- The SU tried to kill the leader of that village, which seems affiliated with Organo.
- The chick who maimed the mute guy seems to be midboss for something affiliated with Organo or Organo itself.
- Texhnolyze is a horrible, horrible name for a show.

I think.

Agreed, lol. I hate everything about that word. Why would you add a silent "h"? Why would you replace the "c" with an "x" in techno? The extra consonant sound makes the word sound extremely clumsy. I guess they just wanted to pass on the awkwardness of Engrish to people who actually speak the language.

The "-lyze" suffix is the opposite of what they seem to want to get across - unless they're trying to have a theme of "the death/dissolution of technology", which seems unlikely.

Oh yes, and it's impossible to spell unless you already know how to spell it.

Well, techno is written τέχνηο, the χ being sort of a KH sound. So it makes sense, even if it is an atypical - and ugly - romanization.

Wait, so you're telling me that they looked up the greek root of the word, but didn't bother to find out if the neologism they were forging made sense, was redundant, or sounded natural?

...that's... sort of awesome. As expected from the anime industry, I suppose.

What resilience! What an incredible determination to live, for a "dog".

I'm not sure what that means, but what comes to mind is a situation like FF7's Midgar.

And then Ran said she sells flowers! (Hello Aerith!) XD

The blonde woman at the end is the same Texhnolyze doctor lady fixing that Organo boss ehh? Very interesting, looks like the "dog" is gonna have his chance to bite back, (I hope!).

This is a comparatively slow anime compared to a lot of them that I've watched, but I'm not hating it. I need to go back and look for the lady's hair thing again (I seem to have missed it).

Exactly. Now the previous episode makes total sense even if I said the opposite when I commented on it. To understand it, we just had to be drawn into the world of this story, of these characters. I even thought, that I'll forget for episode one and I'll just continue watching, probably rethinking it at the end of the show, as I usually do in such cases. Well, it seems that episode 1 is strongly connected to episode 2. Maybe this anime will require us to watch the next episode, to understand what's happening now. Just maybe.
About the episode itself... I was surprised by the harsh act against Ichise. The episode revealed almost nothing to us, and yet - it draws us even further into the atmosphere of the story. I loved once again the OP, and then I realized why is all the love - the track is Juno Reactor's creation. It really explains why I like it so much, after all Juno Reactor participates in the Matrix Reloaded/AnimatrixOST. I hope this means, that this anime will be really cyberpunk-oriented, because this the main reason I started watching it ;D

Watched it, but as my 11 year old daughter is playing her obnoxious DSi right behind me and I can't really focus to write a comment. Hopefully next episode I'll be alone. (No, she did not watch the episode, nor is she watching the show with me). I don't understand why the fighter got his arm cut off in the first place. I guess I might have to rewatch the first episode.

Awesome anime so far!
Really like the slow pace of how it evolves.

I think I understand most of what is going on, except why the fighter got his arm cut, I believe it might have something to do with the "relationship" he seemed to maintain with the chick with the texhnolyzed arm, that would explain why he got so angry at her.

What a cruel world this anime has set up. There are even guys like Shinji who knocks him down in that state. :(

The protagonist is like a discarded (err, what's the word for the) roosters/dogs/betafish/whatever people cruelly raise to fight one another. Poor guy. The little girl's Raven Simone, and I guess the Organo is like an oppressive government. Plot is coming slowly, but I still don't really understand what's going on.

This show somehow manages not to be boring at all but actually really captivating. I'm probably going to finish this in one sitting.

I wish I wasn't so desensitized towards violence sometimes...
I have to literally put myself in Ichise's shoe(s) to get that uncomfortableness instead of just looking at his lost limbs.
Though showing how people are either taking pity or taking advantage of him is harsh too.

Interesting first couple of episodes. I'm sure it will only get better!

Why does that mustache from-the-surface guy smile so much? Motherfucker never stops smiling. I dig the parallels between him and the mute guy. Real powerful atmosphere and the loss of his limbs and the aftermath is depicted really well. Better than ergo proxy so far and seems to have a deeper storyline than Blame. This has potential to be one of the best works of cyberpunk I've ever seen and be on my favorites. I could end up disliking it though. Too soon to call that.

I'm not 100% certain but this is what I worked out: He won the fight. He didn't seem all that happy about having to fight in the first place. The woman was dangling that envelope (his reward I think) in front of him and pretty much sexually assaulting him. She raped him and he ended up getting pissed and knocked her off him. She got mad and had those guys cut his limbs off.

At least episode 2 has more dialogue. Still a real job to be able to pay attention.
I understand the parts with the main character, but as for the rest, itll take awhile to get un-lost.

Seeing how good Ergo Proxy was, surely Madhouse can meet my expectations.

This episode was very depressing. I felt really bad for the MC when he had to crawl around carrying his body parts. I wasn't completely sure what he did with them in that water thing. Maybe he's depositing them in their and he will get them later when he needs them or something. I find it great that I barely know anything about the MC and he doesn't have much dialogue yet I already fell very bad for him and I cared for him more than I can say for most generic MCs. It was also sad when he envisioned himself walking up the stairs with legs and how his former self that he is envisioning wouldn't have given a shit about him and thought he was worthless and the cold look in his eye further proved that. This was a great and interesting episode.

Isn't this because she was sort of sexually assaulting him? I guess inserting her fake sharp fingernail into his eye was what made him retort. Or was that some psychological symbolism/metaphor?
And his rejection made her mad. So she decided to have his arm cut off.

A very depressing, but amazing episode. The staircase scene was very well done, and the plot is slowly unravelling. I think the main theme of this show is presenting the corrupted humanity that we live in, and how the mind can be extremely selfish at times.

That stair scene of him seeing his former self with all limbs intact and not giving two shits about someone who was in the same situation really depressed me.

I was more curious how he was able to tourniquet his severed extremities and how he was able to get a bill of money in his mouth. Seeing him obviously hungry and being unable to eat was really depressing too
