Well considering I really disliked the last episode. I thought this one was a huge improvement. It once again told a previously unadapted story. And it had a lot of the elements I liked from the original series. While also touching on ideas and themes we haven't been beaten to death with before. Like the environmental impact represented by the country's wake. And the supreme advantage that comes from being a more developed nation. And how the leaders choose to act on that.

I still think while recognizable as Kino. The character feels a bit different to me. Perhaps more naive. Or less cold and withdrawn. But there were certainly moments in the first series where Kino was both naive and more invested than was wise as well. But I can't imagine the Kino of the old series taking arms. If non lethally. To defend a mural. While just... choosing to ignore the farmers whose livelihood was being unfairly crushed. I don't mind the ambiguity of the city's actions. It's Kino's reaction that bugs me. This series continues to disappoint in the shadow of the great 03 original. But I think it's on the right track.

lol at everyone saying the country is horrible. You do realize that every country in the world are bothersome just like they said right? This country do far less damage to the world even with their high technology. What countries are you guys from huh? United States? Everyone uses and waste way more than they need and the pollution is up the roof and they fuck around the other side of the world like the whole thing with Middle East, World War 2, Vietnam War etc. Not to mention inventing nuclear bombs. China? The pollution to the environment is even worse than the US and they do some fucked up shit as well. This goes for the same for pretty much every single country in the world just at different degrees.

As the show says, like countries, even humans are a bother just by living. You have been consuming since you were born and creating entropy, essentially accelerating the death of the universe. Saying this country is horrible is a ignorant and hypocritical statement.

Btw some people don't understand why Kino broke her 3 day staying rule in the country but it was pretty obvious. Kino tried to go through the country but they demanded her Woodsman pistol to cross it. Kino realized that the moving country is heading to their direction and made a rough calculation of how long it would take them to get there based on their speed hence she said "5-10 days".

Well that was conflicting, but I guess that's the point of the show in some episodes.

I'm surprised no-one thought that the moving country is alot like the U.S. and many 1st world country with Nuclear Weapons at their disposal.

They are civilize people who did not want to intentionally harm other countries despite having enough military force to destroy other countries, but always think of their own interest first and does not hesitate to sacrifice other countries if it contributes their own country's survival.

Seriously no-one think that the moving country is direct reference to the U.S.?

Well, this is why that Kino's Journey is kinda 2 of my favourite shows in Fall 2017.
It debates about fantasy countries that're of direct reference from real countries. They're not pure black or pure white, pure right or pure wrong, but always in a grey area for you to debate and interpret the meaning of it.

I feel some kind of way about that traveling country just basically laying waste all over the world. However, when it was revealed that the country with the wall was extorting travelers, I felt they deserved everything they got! I wonder if the officials of the traveling country knew that before they approached.

So hyped for the upcoming Mortal Engines film lol.
I like how the powerful yet peaceful country sorta mirrors Kino in constantly traveling, using that power (somewhat) responsibly.
Where she got the rifle? The pro sniping with green outfit all very Sinon-ish, nicely done action & osts.
Good to see country foreign affairs, theme of merely existing causes some bother to the environment & neighbors, and strange contrast between militaristic country blocking a large territory vs peaceful small traveling tower.
Oh expected more surprise, first time Kino went pass 3 days.

Quite a different episode from the original and I must say it was good. The moving country was beautiful and way to go for Kino to protect it, her gunmanship is top notch on this series and it is shown a lot. I see also she has rifles now as well as other cool looking guns.

I will watch till the end, let's be great to each other.

This was a great episode tbh. Makes you really think what you are doing to the environment because of your way of living. Ever been on a cruise ship or took a plane? Do you have a car? Do you eat meat or anything grown in agriculture? Do you use items made out of plastic? What's the impact of using a PC and internet on a daily basis. It certainly doesn't stop.

This episode was surely messed up but very though-provoking. Since the "impact on the environment" may have been a bit exaggerated (was it really? maybe it was just more straight forward than stuff like CO2 emission, nuclear waste etc.). Also makes you question what level of "bother to the surroundings" is acceptable and what level is too much.

Since when does Kino stay in a country for more than 3 days? Also, Lerche, stop with the Kino blushing scenes, they're totally unneeded. Other than that, this was an improvement compared to the previous episodes.

It is said 3 days is the best. Staying longer wouldn't be surprising considering the country is moving.

SPOILER

3 days is because it's the perfect time and longer may induce the wish to stay in that country forever. That's the reason Kino refuses to stay longer than 3 days.

Pretty lit. I loved seeing the conflict in this episode! Neither countries were in the right but we got to see both sides. This show doesn't have a "good side" and "bad side" which is very interesting to see. They're willing to trample over someone else's land but they still cherish the children's mural. It's such a contrast.

This show is a gem!

Initially, I had thought of the moving country as the aggressor in that conflict. Even if the other country didn't seem likable at first approach, the moving country was still causing needless devastation for them. That's what I thought. Towards the end, however, what the immigration guy said really summed it up best. That people can place burdens on others by simply existing and that it's something you have to learn to live with. In that sense, the other country creating an unnatural wall to monopolize resources was, in actuality, a greater bother than the moving country.

It's really incredible how quickly the same scenario can change depending on the perspective.

Only thing that bothered me was Kino saying she wanted to say for 5-10 days. I guess maybe it had to do with testing her rifle out, but it seemed very out of character considering previously established implications.

Wow. A moving country. It reminds me of Chrome Shelled reqios. Its cool and all but the down side is trespassing into other's territory and runing environments.. Though the walled country deserved getting rammed by that.

Someone on the comments had already explained about Kino's visit to that walled country prior to the start of the episode and thansk to that, it made it clear now. Her skills with the rifle at high. She can become a dangerous assassin if she wants.

I read that in Ozzy man's voice. Hilarious.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

The whole moving country thing ruined it for me. What a bunch of fuck heads, just trampling over anyone in their way. (how lucky these guys seemed to be assholes, what happens if they come upon some cool people?)

What a bothersome country...uhm well countries. The travelling country was disturbing everything on it's path, homes, farms, walls, etc then ruining the environment on it's wake while the country with walls are extorting very high and unreasonable tolls. I still feel bad for the farmers, and properties that could get run over by the travelling country. The people from the travelling country doesn't seem to be bad, heck they're having their peaceful lives with changing scenery everyday but what about environmental responsibilities to everything around them, and the destruction of properties of others?

The traveling city seems like a metaphor for humanity itself. Do we feel any remorse when we trample on lesser inferior species like ants, termites, mice and every other animal that we consider vermin and bothersome.

Seems like every episode needs to have some action which seems a little antithetical to the premise but there was some subtlety; the man is right when he says that traveling inevitably leaves marks or that all countries cause "some degree" of bother but he lazily stops thinking there and ignores that the marks and bother they creates are massive in scale and all so they can go on a journey without having to sacrifice comfort and convenience. Kino's usual way of doing things is a counterpoint but even she was a little seduced by unlimited hot water, free pajamas, and "a clean bed" with "white sheets".

Still I think this one was a little thin to take up the whole episode. I don't want to harp on about the 2003 series but I liked that it was willing to o several short stories within a single episode rather than draw things out to meet the running time.

What an awful country. Also I dislike how they tried to make others countries look bad like in this episode -the Wall Country extort people for money-, imagine if an innocent city or town are crushed by them. The morale of this episode is stupid, they don't care about anything except their journey, they are evil.

For me the stories of this version are much better than the old one and the characters are much more charismatic even Kino's skill with weapons is much more believable than in the previous version.
And all the sound of the anime, opening and ending are better too.
The stories in this version are much more interesting and believable than in the previous one that forced a morbid tone on purpose.

PT-BR

The episode was alright, but it was a bit disjointed and didn't have much purpose. I get that the entire show is about looking at how humans react in various situations, but this episode just felt a little bland compared to the previous two.

Ok revealed at the end the country that got rammed through wasn't exactly nice. Sure fine sorta had it coming. But in the process handicapped their defenses, living situation of citizens, farmland and resources, and the tracks would also have a impact alone.

Since they operate on treads I can't see them being too flexible in moving but if they have such advanced and strong technology couldn't they find a different solution. Naw totally against this moving turd in the end. Too many negatives and terrible impacts in exchange for their comfy lifestyle and WELL IT IS WHAT IT IS attitude.
