| Over the five episodes so far, the humor here is on the same level as Konosuba: everyone just yells and makes stupid faces, zero actual wit or interesting topics, and I’ve felt exactly zero emotions in all five episodes. The cooking is still the same pretty but boring crap: they lavishly show the preparation of some magical nonsense made from the mythical ass of a legendary mole, just so the same annoying elf can scream that she won’t eat it, and then once again go on about how delicious it is. The characters are still complete non-entities. I picture the elf as a 35-year-old office lady who acts like a 12-year-old and constantly screams and whines about everything. The logic is also limping in places. Example: they show a whole party of clearly experienced adventurers who got wiped out by some bugs, and then it turns out everyone knows about these bugs, people eat them, know how to cook them, and they’re a totally ordinary dish on the surface. Yet our group of six has never in their lives heard of them and couldn’t even suspect that the gold wasn’t real, even though the coins literally have little legs sticking out the other side. Food here is a plot device for absolutely everything, and dishes prepared yesterday miraculously kill your enemies today with pinpoint accuracy. Because of all these contrivances, immersion suffers badly. It’s pretty boring overall, for now I’m watching at 1.25× speed. |
