@JohnDowson well i see where you are coming from, because i notice it as well! But if the first episodes where the chracterization is the focus, lacking some animation impromevents...it aint like it doesn't happen on many other famous animes...Naruto Shippuden Naruto vs Pain fight...Dragon Ball Super with some Animations that really lacked effort during climax fights and whatnot...you already saw a good fight this last episode and it wasnt bad.. the first season was criticized A LOT because of the art style,to the point that they changed this time around... Now people ask for it back?

Nobody critized the art style of first season to the point that they changed it just because of that ;d It wasn't even that bad to begin with and if you compare it to this season, it was actually pretty good.

That's not how it works. If the same studio was doing this season, the art style would have been the same but now we have a completely different studio and so far all they are doing is a massive disappointment.

I'm a massive fan of the webtoon. But that's probably if anything why I have zero interest in this. The first season was so incredibly botched that it's just laughable.

If going by MAL members, it’s the third most watched of this season (even if going by those who are watching vs planning to watch it’s still 4th or 5th). So I’m not sure this question is relevant.

But I am in agreement about how great the show is. I also don’t dislike the animation as it is very true to the comic. The OST is also excellent (both seasons), and I like the low budget aesthetically creative OP/ED production. There will always be haters as people’s tastes are subjective, but personally I love the comic and animation. It has solid (not the best, but it’s good) world-building and the main character fuels side character development, even if his own isn’t the most exciting. I mean, I’m 600+ chapters deep and still hangin’ so I guess that says something :p

I mean it's still the third most popular anime this season, but I'll bite-

Pacing, directing, art style, and animation aside, there are quite a few other noticeable problems with this season. The most glaring being with episode 4; it's hard to follow through what was happening, with the badly explained game rules and the terrible pacing. They somehow excluded the most fucking important part of the game - the conclusion. The explanation of how Wangnan's team passed despite him giving Viole the connector. No one in their right mind would exclude that. The director or whoever else has clearly shown that they don't care about this show with all the inconsistencies (I can name at least three others) there are.

Add that to the fact that the new main cast aren't exactly the most charismatic, so new anime watchers are frustrated at having this change and wanting the old cast back. I will say though - manhwa readers had the same reaction to the new characters when the chapters came out but many, including me, began to love the new cast even more than the old cast, so hopefully this second season will be able to follow through and get the anime watchers to love them as well. Lastly, the plot has yet to pick up so there's not much to talk about. This cour is more about introducing new characters, including Viole, and setting things up for the next one. Episode 7 will probably be one of the more popular episodes this cour...though I fear more than ever for the animation. Anyways, there are some takes that I think are too harsh and others that are reasonable, but overall with the adaptation being so subpar, I could definitely understand why this season hasn't been garnering as much attention as it could. If this adaptation got the level of passion that, say, Oshi no Ko, Alya, Wistoria, Makeine, or Elusive Samurai got, I guarantee this season would've been so much more of a hit.
@Xiao This is exactly what's wrong with this season. There's just no passion for the adaptation anymore which made it turn into a generic isekai lookalike. The direction and storyboarding are quite literally a mess and it's awkward to follow what's being shown. I do understand the critics about the new cast and a "boring" start for most of the part. But, it could have been so much better if it was adapted like it actually mattered.

I've been a long fan of the manhwa and the unique adaptation of the first season was exactly what TOG needed to get attention. I feel like it's just doing the opposite at the moment. I'm not trying to hate, but I'm trying to believe that this adaptation can still do a 180-turn and become something good. The studio change is a disappointment. Their last work was literally a decade ago and on top of that; two directors where one of them is a newbie and the other one hasn't done any direction besides for an average movie. I don't think they have the capability to get what they need. I'm glad that Pekin is still on the show.

Regardless of the disastrous production and the garbage episodes that this 2nd season is offering us, I wonder why no one is talking about it? Tog is one of the most important manhwa in the industry but it seems that no one cares about this 2nd season, despite the discrete success of the 1st.

I watched the first 2 episode and shifted to the manhwa. I gave up on the Manhwa before because the art was so shit at first. I am almost caught up now. the second season in the manhwa was really good and the my god the art has improved a lot.

I don't mind you addressing the problem what I do mind is you doing calling it trash because you personally have a problem with it . I said it once and I will say it again if you're not enjoying this season then feel free to drop it

A lot of people are watching it though... and the problem with the second season is that the second season of the manhwa is loooooooooong as hell (over 300 chapters) and takes quite a while to really pick up (imo) so it's going to take awhile for the anime to hit it's stride unless they rush it like they did the first season (which I REALLY hope that they DON'T do). And yeah, the new characters are important to the plot but I miss Khun and it probably won't even get to him this season (but then they do tend to rush crap so... maybe they will?).

Really bro? You are defending this absolute disappointment? People don't shit on it out of nowhere and for no reason. Thing is that there are reasons why people say this season is really bad. Everything that was good in season 1 is gone in this one. You have to be either blind or a delusion fanboy to think this is any good.

Instead of addressing the problem that guy seems to not want to face the reality that this season of tog has been an utter disappointment, people need to wake up.

Word. Yeah, the little moments between the characters are a big part of what makes Tower of God so good. The next episode will be full of character dialogue, and I'm so scared they're gonna rush the pacing again to get to the more "exciting" parts. The OSTs really are the only amazing aspect of this anime, thank god for Penkin. I honestly wasn't a big fan of how the first season was adapted either, but it definitely has more upsides compared to this season. I'm more of a glass half-empty type of person so I'll just be watching the rest of the season bracing myself for continued disappointment, but guess the only thing we can do is wait and see how the rest of this season plays out.

Guys really believe people are just shitting on the show for NO reason. Usually there is a reason, and in my case it's because all these new characters are so boring and unlikeable. Season 1's characters at least had something interesting going on- This new blonde dude has to be the most obnoxious characters I've seen in a while

It's absolute garbage. It seems that the change in animation studio really hurt this series. It went from a heavily stylised show (with pretty good animation tbh) to a generic shit art style akin to some no name isekai 12 episode series.

Haters are always the loudest. Back when s1 was airing it was nothing but hate for the artstyle, animation and pacing. Now they all love it all of a sudden.
@Ri-iel we still don't like season 1 adaptation lol. It's just that season 2 artstyle and animation is somehow EVEN worse. But if you wanna keep defending a objectively horrible adaptation, keep going. I am just sad that tower of God deserved so much better than this.

@Nik03178 I don't think you understand how much S1 elevated TOG and how many people it brought in when it easily could've went in the garbage direction S2 did. S1 handled character design, animation, art, and directing beyond any typical garbage adaptation out there especially for a Japanese studio that likely weren't familiar with TOG for being a manhwa. I can hardly think of an anime adaptation of a manhwa that did it better than TOG did at that time. People bashing S1 can't comprehend that an adaptation cannot adapt ALL source content and do not understand the risk profile of adapting a manhwa ie. LIMITED budget. At least we got some sakuga from S1 and any content that was cut could easily be included in the next season anyways. If you think the only issues are S2's artstyle and animation, you should get your head checked.

I am not enjoying it myself, for some reason I liked the 1st season more but I'm trying to follow in case it gets better since this is such a hot manhwa apparently.
It just feels both generic and confusing? I can't understand the character's behaviors, feels very disconnected and all over the place.
It has been enough time too for me to forget the basics or whatever of the tower because I can't understand any of it anymore like:
Why are powerless people even attempting to climb the tower when it's a death sentence like the glasses woman and the little girl?
Where do the others get their powers from? Do these characters ever improve?
I can't understand the universe for the most part.
The animation is so trash in fighting scenes, like I get it, you won't waste budget on "filler" fights but this is so bad, I don't remember the 1st season having this quality.
I think the soundtrack is a big reason why I keep up with the 2nd season, it helps a lot.
I am tempted to read the manhwa instead but with the recent bad experience with manhwas I had lately, I feel like manhwa in general are mostly garbage.
No offense to manhwa but their storytelling is so superficial even the top ones. Solo leveling was supposed to be so good too but it felt like such a power fantasy, like some edgy teenager wrote it, just like sword art online. Rooftop swordmaster was another one that made me lose hope with manhwa in general.

I'll tell you why I'm not talking about it. Because I do not feel the hype. At. All.
The manhwa bored me half to death at this point in the story and the anime is sadly no different.

I can only take so many time skips before I lose the ability to get attached to characters, much less care about them. Heck. I don't even care for Baam at this point.

The animation is really the least of my issues with this.

Currently I have watched 9 episodes and by next episode I'll likely have caught up to where I gave up reading the Manhwa. I am tired of waiting for something interesting to happen.

@Tormented I can only agree with you. The disconnect certainly isn't helped by the constant and often huge time skips that just disconnects you even further from the story and the characters.

But I haven't really thought about these questions. Because I do not care enough for the explanations to even ask in the first place.

The soundtrack is about the only redeeming quality.

Personally I would not recommend the manhwa. I hit a wall trying to read it, and I am hitting the same wall trying to watch it as well.

In my opinion Solo Leveling is one of the better ones... Yes it's an edgy power fantasy, but at least I can manage to enjoy it because it doesn't try to be anything else. I get the hype for that one. This... It's a complete mystery to me.
