| Generally found this clever in both its concept, and how it executed it. The mystery of the "multiple protagonists" was technically solved only a few episodes in, but with enough residual questions to leave more to unravel about Takeda all the way up to the last episode. Some of the alter-egos had more immediate charm to them than others, particularly early on, but they were fine-tuned throughout as well. Unfortunately, the resolution of the central plot point was unsatisfying, grounded in an inflexible resignment to reality without any consideration for the malleability of what Takeda's reality could be. It would perhaps take a noticeably bitter, sudden shift in tone to implement my preferred ending, but with the topic of child abuse and maternal suicide being a key element of this episode regardless, I don't think it would be entirely out of place. Said ending, of course, would be Takeda telling Asuka to get fucked. Still an impressive, unique twist on the usual "dude surrounded by cute girls" formula, with some generous fan-service and the occasional witty humour scene to keep the watch fresh. |
