So in the end, Frieren still has some spells that are just OP that she reserves for dangerous situations. Fern might have the ability to harm her, best chance actually, but she still has a long way to go before she can kill Frieren. SUCH POWER.

Ok so if Frieren is THAT strong why was she unable to kill that dragon easily and needed Stark's help? Thats the only thing that is bugging me on the show so far, other than that 10/10 episode and series 100%, Madhouse is INSANE
@Aaronide_ger frieren didnt say she can't beat the dragon she said she wanted stark to hold the dragon for 30 seconds so she can cast a powerful spell and she knew stark would beat the dragon anyway

Oh crap, I have a tattoo planned on Frieren and Fern's staffs on my arms. Fern's Staff just broke into pieces, hey manga readers, is she getting a completely different staff?? Should I be worried? Please post in a spoiler of course.

Dragons are magic resistant or at least they have very high magic resistances.

Peak anime, I've been watching since the first 4 episodes were released, and wow just wow. Also I like how the show explains magic, like they don't explain a specific spell or while they're conjuring it, but on a wide perspective like on the Übel vs Sense part. Like when they actually use the spell especially the frieren fight, there were only visuals, ost, and not much dialogues cuz shit needs to get done! When I see the frieren fight, I kept asking questions on how spells work and how insane they are. But there is one spell I don't understand tho which is the black hole one. I mean the visuals was so insane and my eyes was mesmerized, but what the hell does it do? Cuz it just suck some rocks and goes boom, but it had no effect on frieren whatsoever. Can anyone explain the purpose?

@xdogma Honestly I think she could've soloed the dragon easily, but she wanted to use it as a teaching aid for Stark (or Fern but apparently that was too much for her at that moment). Pretty sure she said 30 seconds simply because she figured Stark would deal with it in that time. If she actually needed 30 seconds, she would have started casting or preparing something the moment Stark started fighting, but she did nothing.

I was kinda disappointed at the ending of the last episode because I thought it was over. Of course a fight like that wouldn't end so quickly!

Wow, this episode is incredible, easily the best episode from this anime, everything was so damn good here and the animation was "chef kiss".

And Ubel sure was creepy, we got to understand her psycho-sadistic nature a bit more, no wonder she is able to dispatch Sense quickly, that girl is naturally afraid of Ubel which made her copy weaker by default, it was cool seeing Fern do her spell machine-gun thingie, that was awesome and was animated so damn good, man, I'm really impressed with this episode, this shit was so fucking hype here.

It's a 5/5 episode for sure and if anyone thinks this episode is bad then you're out of your mind.

Frieren is an absolute madness.
If she had been cornered, would she use lethal magic like that? Wow. Last time was 80 years!
They could make an arc that envolves old fights, I would be very grateful.
But well, it scared me a little when Fern was ejected with so much power, it brought back memories of fights where it all ended there.
Thank god she resisted it and Frieren took care of the job.
And yeah, not to mention that Ubel literally has Sukuna's CT: Dismantle.
Looking forward for the next EXAM!!

That was a fun episode but I think the mimic joke is getting overused... 🥲
I didn't get to see Fern's clone though or am I losing it? 🤔

There are two more episodes left, and I doubt the next exam, or if there are more, will be finished anytime soon in this season. 😖

I'd have agreed that the mimic was being overused if they didn't say that it's only 99% accurate, it's a part of Frieren's character that she wants any opportunity to find Grimoires

Amazing episode, that's how magic should be done!

Not a fan of Ubel's conceptual magic, conceptual magic kinda comes out of nowhere and is immediately OP.

Sense should be murdered imo. This 'test' is bs, how does this random crap prove that any of the last ones standing are 1st class.
Also.. beating this dungeon that sense and the other 1st class can't even beat, somehow make them on the same level? if anything all current 1st class and lower should be bumped down a class to make way for the actual 1st class.

Match ups are all about exploiting weaknesses. In the world of mages and magic knowing your opponents weak points is the key to victory. All these replicas descending to the bottom of the dungeon to converse on the remaining test takers. Frieren and Fern deal with the elf's replica while the rest try to take on any favorable match ups against their replicas. I suppose that spell Fern lined up at the end of last episode didn't work since they're still having trouble nailing down Frieren replica. Even using that split second she stops detecting mana isn't enough without a huge distraction. That's where Frieren herself comes in to keep the replica occupied while Fern can sneak in a killing blow. We got some more incredible looking animation with this fight continuing, the staff went all out with double the Frieren power on display. Fern being blasted back even after knocking off both replica Frieren arms was wild. Frieren herself having to finish off her replica. Apart from a few the other replicas weren't much trouble they just came down to a battle of attrition with the mages having to outlast them until Frieren and Fern could break through. Most of the characters we've been following passing this second test is great to see. We'll find out which ones pass the final test.

Every week it seem like I said this but this is my new favorite episode I guess I'm going to said this about the last two episodes. I can't believe we only got two more episodes left really hopefully we will get a season two. Also wondering what spell clone Frieren use to make original Frieren say she hasn't use that and over eighty years.

The episode most definitely lives up to the title, Ubel's ideology on magic and seeing the power of Frieren at her best is astounding to me. Such an incredible episode, the animation goes so insane, the entirety of the show has such smooth animation and this episode just shows how far animation in fights can really go, it completely knocked the ball out of the park. 10/10 episode for sure

Frieren literally casting a supernova at the beginning of the episode... oh, dear lord.
And Übel being the walking definition of "think outside the box". Such a terrifying adversary indeed.

Masterclass episode. Excellent from beginning to end, though I'm a bit "disappointed" we didn't see Methode fighting Clone Fern. Especially since it seems she managed to stand her ground against the clone.
Favorite frame of the episode, by the way:

The battle is too much for YouTube's compression algorithm to handle.
If you are talking about the animation at the beginning of the episode, probably it's not Youtube's fault. I watched it on TV broadcast with TS (Transport Stream) quality, but it seemed like low frame rate movie; especially the whirling floating rocks. As any block distortion cannot be seen and Frieren's hair moves relatively smoother than the rocks, it would be the actual/intended movie. Though many people would feel it something wrong, the scene might be fixed in the BD release.

So why do some people say they like Ubel more after this episode? Not judging, I'm just curious. Because it's the exact opposite for me.

She killed the examiner, a human being, and didn't show any hint of remorse or anything.

I love frieren but I fell harder for the clone despite monotone color she looks both beautiful and badass everytime I see her cold face I imagine old frieren how scary she must be.
The clone with her loose hair and that bloody glared towards fern before smashing her really gave me chills and how fern's eyes got bigger while realizing that she's f**ked now that moment was really amazing I wonder how strong fern's body is to withstand that move and being alive considering how badly her wand broken down and clone was indeed wanted to murder her lol.In short people thought fern can defeat frieren easily was quite wrong.

Ubel is she really a human or a demon hiding her appearance I wonder? Her killing spree is morally questionable but no one cares I believe infact she literally killed the cloak man I felt sorry for him but yeah she's scary sometimes I believe she's stronger than fern.
Method is very versatile and capable mage.

Now magic is all about visualization so how far a mage's mana can support that visualization also depends right? Like if someone wants to create a blackhole but doesn't have a great mana pool will surely fails right?

One of the greatest episodes in anime history for sure.

Seeing more Ubel makes my pp very hard, and knowing how her magic works now makes her even better. She's fantastic.

The frieren vs frieren fight was awesome. That "No mana look slam" thing the clone did on Fern was epic. Like... She couldn't detect that mana was used against her? So freaking cool.

We are eating so good this season.

My thinking is it's a second phase or transformation, allowing her to manipulate mana directly as Fern says she can't detect mana or recognize it as magic as she knows it.

The first spell is spatial magic it's a black hole, so it the other one with the planets, looked like reality warping, serie also knows spatial magic

Both Ubel's spell and clone Frieren's spell that crushed Fern against the wall were very interesting. I hope they explain what Frieren's spell was. Considering she used it only 80 years back, it wasn't related to the Demon King.. so I wonder what happened.
