Ahh this makes me remember why I enjoyed the beginning of the manga so damn much. The animation quality is also very nice - great job cloverworks.

man this show hit all the right spots for me. Hori seems such a great girl to be friends with and Miyamura is what you wanted to be lol. I didn't expect drama this early but I like it. I gotta say though Hori's headbutt kinda ruined the moment but it's okay I guess this is a romcom.

and can we acknowledge the fact that dude legit pierced himself with a safety pin??

looking really good so far. Cloverworks really nailed the artwork and the animation and the fact that they're making 3 shows this season without any major drops in quality.

Did not disappoint. Thrilled that one of my all time fave manga finally has a proper anime, and so far it's doing it justice. Delightfully comfy episode, I almost want to watch it again right away!

A strong start with a lot of fun moments and suprisingly strong animation.

Miyamura has some incredible guts having so many piercings and tattoos when he's still only in middle school.

I feel really bad for poor Ishiwaka at the end.

Felt so rushed and I didn‘t like how the transition of scenes were handled... Some scenes lack build up and therefore felt too dramatic. It‘s a good adaptation and almost just like the manga I‘d say (identical scenes with little changes in detail and order of events, but they make more sense like that), but is it just me or did the whole thing feel kinda awkward? I really liked the Ishikawa and Miyamura scene on the roof though. The OP was nice too.
3/5

I never read the manga, and yes I thought the pacing feels rushed and lots of scenes felt awkward because lack of build up. I even thought they cut out significant parts from the manga, but I guess they didn't?

it skipped chapter 2.. it was very rushed.

It's finally here! And I can already tell that this will be great from start till the end

The animation is really great. I like how they put the color of the hair so that we will not confuse to them. But I notice something.. I think they skipped some parts of it. Don't know why but this first ep is pretty fast paced. I hope it won't affect the overall story.

The relationship of Hori and Miyamura is pretty cute. I like how they quickly understand each other. Hori is already giving a "romance" air to him. I wonder when to Miyamura :>

OP and ED was really unique. I really like it

9/10 for the first ep. Keep up the good work, the rookie rising star Studio Cloverworks!

PS: I feel bad for those 37 people who dropped this. They'll miss this "One of the best RomCom anime of all time" :')

Hori is a real wife.Sometimes she comes a little angry to Miyamura but this makes her cuter : )When her classmates borrow her notebook, she will complain as lending to them generously. That's so cute.

Hori is the best girl !

P.S. If you want to have a girlfriend ,you should be close to her youngerr brother first.

How many chapters were adapted for this 1st episode? I did feel like it was lacking build up at around the beginning.. Miyamura become comfortable to visit Hori so quick. I guess Hori did explained about how much she got to know a lot about Miyamura, but too bad the process wasn't shown.

I like the characters though, will continue to next episode.

Literally chapter 1 and 3, and aside from adding a bit that wasn't there (mostly the stuff with the creeper teacher), it's pretty straight forwardly adapted. Skips 2, but 2 is, honestly, not very relevant to the story going forward. Like never mentioned again beyond the introduction of a single character who recurs from time to time.

It does chapter 1 and 3.

Chapter 2 is pretty good, really goes into Hori characterization and the reason she opens up with Miyamura, makes chapter 3 (later half of ep 1) feel way less forced and rushed.

The sexual tension I've felt between Hori and Miyamura when I first read the manga was kept as I watched the first episode today so kudos to CloverWorks and other staff for perfectly capturing it lol

I also love that they already introduced a bit about the other characters right off the bat and they made them all endearing (like it should be anyway lol).

I've been waiting for this anime adaptation as soon as it was announced so I am very excited to watch it. Thank god i was not disappointed.

It adapts the manga pretty accurately and the direction of the humor and the animation are spot on. One small thing is that there is a very small rushed feeling about how Hori tells Miya that she wants nobody else to know about his real identity but I also felt like that in the manga as well.

You should maybe go back and skim chapter 3 again. Pretty much adapts it and chapter 1 in their entirety. It does skip Chapter 2, but chapter 2 also is pretty much forgotten about after it happens.

I may have to read chapter 3 again but chapter 2 is important because it fleshes out Hori and Miyamura's relationship, through more interactions it feels more natural for them to be close. But the episode jumping from ch 1 to 3 was too big a leap, the relationship felt a bit more forced that way. Ultimately making Hori's crying over Miyamura's actions in ch 3 feel a bit off.

When this was announced and PVs were shown off, I felt like this was waaaay overhyped for something that seemed pretty stereotypical, especially nowadays when theres only like 1-2 shoujos per season (yes i know this is shounen but it has that unmistakeable vibe)
But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the premiere! I also really liked that the idea of Ishikawa and Miyamura being a couple or asking each other out wasn't played out for laughs, but actually considered as an option. I'll keep watching ^_^

Maybe a little bit, not going to lie. But, I still stand by the entirety of chapter 2 kind of getting thrown away after it happens in the manga. Parts of it maybe could have been adapted to show that build up of their early relationship, but honestly, his bromance with Tooru is more important in the long term, if we have to be choosy on how much we get adapted.

Anti-otaku and figure-collecting message soured what could have been a good experience. This kind of negativity is not what anime should be about. What happened to positive shows like "Love is Hard for Otaku" and similar shows which celebrated alternative lifestyles? This show expects me to cheer on a main heroine that is prejudiced against something I identify strongly with. Perhaps I will be able to watch it more but I couldn't finish the episode after it directly attacked me and other otaku. Very disappointing.

The thing is most of the side character focus is probably gonna be thrown out for the anime adaptation. Even with two seasons, the meat of the story revolving all chapters of Hori and Miyamura ends around 63. And probably takes up around 40 of those chapters. That's a bit off-topic tho, the bromance matters significantly less in comparison to the main couple's relationship at the end of the day. All I hope is they don't rush through content too much, they are probably aiming to reach ch 37.

You are reading way too into it. They just assumed he is a quiet otaku type and they were wrong. Never once did they go "eew, gross".

But also, as someone with hundreds of figures and collectibles sitting all around me.... it's weird. We're weird. Ain't no changing that, lol.

I love the animation and the visuals and the OP and ED were great! Though my favorite parts of the first few chapters on the manga weren’t in the first episode, it was still great.

I’m looking forward to seeing the relationship growth between Hori and Miyamura, (my fav) and, of course, the development of all the other characters — especially Iura and Ishikawa.

Finally, The Anime Adaptation of the Most Popular Romance Anime.
I have read about 35 chapters of the Manga.

It felt a little rushed but it is not something I can complain about since it was the same in Manga.

Otherwise, Art and Animation was Damn Good.
The soundtrack was Awesome.

Very Satisfied with this Adaptation compared to that Horimiya OVA.

Op was cute, probably going to search for its english lyrics to know what it means. The art is absolutely beautiful.

The start kind of creep me out, because of that creeper of a teacher, hopefully he is not a recurrent character.

The main characters are enjoyable, but I don't get why Hiro´s personal life is supposed to be opposite to her school life, like taking care of your sibling and house doesn't its not a shocking thing. Hopefully we can see more depth about it.

I don't know if it can be considered as instant love, it was a bit weird the comic relief parts where there were supposed to be feeling.

I don't read the manga, but somehow it felt a bit rushed in some parts. Because in this only episode there were many things going on that would normally take 3-4 episode.

I still enjoyed very much and can't wait for the next episodes!

A solid first ep with consistent direction. IMO. I figured this would be a hit (not a manga reader, sry). Expectations are rather high, considering what the field looks like. But I have to say...

Basically boils down to Quint VAs vs Haruka in RomCom this season. Kinda reminds me of BokuBen S2 vs Ore wo Suki (Haruka). But HSG S2 came out on top, anyway..

Much anime to watch this season. That's what truly matters, though!

Enjoyable episode. But several issues.
The comedy here isn't anything better than generic anime shtick. It made me chuckle though a couple times. The developments in this episode happened a bit too fast which didn't allow me to get invested in it properly. Hate the concept and theme of having two 'faces' though. Always hated such stuff when explicitly mentioned. Sounds preachy and pretentious as hell. No subtlety.

As for the technical side of things. The animation is fine, not anything great. The art is fine too but I don't like the shiny noses. And the line work is a bit rough. Moving on to audio. The voice acting was just fine. Nothing too special. There was a lack of OST during the episode which is not good. The OP theme was straight up trash not unlike most anime OP/ED. The ED started out good but devolved into trash a few seconds in.

Conclusion: Should've been animated by Kyoto Animation or Shaft.

Perfect casting for the VAs!
Tomatsu was exactly how I envisioned Hori sounding, and Uchiyama Kouki as Miyamura was pretty spot on as well!

As far as the episode goes, really happy they stayed faithful with the chibi/reaction faces, that was my favourite part about the manga.

The character design was also pretty consistent with the manga, I didn't think I'd like it from the PVs, but it's actually fine.

The only contention is I'm not a big fan of the background music for reactions and such— I wanted there to be a better OST for the series, but so far, it's just been short snippets of music, almost like Eyecatches, instead of a dedicated and memorable OST for the series. Though, the OST during the confession scene was pretty good, so I'm hopeful.

But, other than that, really happy with what Cloverworks has done with Horimiya!
Looking forward to how this all plays out!

Yeah, i know.
It just matter of preference, I just like the Harem God VA more from the OVA's.

My experience with Raku from Nisekoi anime was not that good, it made me started to not liking/give any tolerance to wishy washy character after that.

But het, the visual quality update was phenomenal.

This anime went out of its way to tell that this is not pandering to the otaku. Instead it's now pandering to the 'normal' people. The lack of subtlety is concerning.
