For those who haven't caught up with Cid's character, yet.

He is basically a chuuni edgelord whose imagination turns out to be true. Hmm, Cult of Diablos? Descendant of Heroes? Yep, they are all Cid's imagination..... which turns out to be true too.

So Cid is basically Haruhi. While the show is pretty much Overlord. That's it. That's the comedy. The anime somewhat failed in expressing Cid's irony.
Unfortunately, the comedy as of right now isn't really translating. In the LN it's all the extra details, monologues, and inner thoughts that greatly enhance the comedic premise, while in the anime it really does feel like a more typical isekai power fantasy, but with an extra dose of edginess added on. I hope they start taking some cues from the manga in terms of comedy, because that would be a lot easier to implement.

Eh, I think the comedy translates just fine, one just need to *click* into the differences in mediums. The LN/WN does it with expanded monologues from Cid and the girls, the manga does it with over the top visuals like uber-buff Kageno in the previous world flashbacks and good panel layout for other jokes. The anime (so far) does it with a combination of the VA's performance, the music in the scene and how they structure the animation. The scene with Cid going all shifty eyed as he's trying to think of who could possibly be the perpetrator for his chuuni story about the "curse" and then going all "No! It's too soon to reveal that to you!" is hilarious to me, for example.

But, humor is subjective, so I don't fault people who don't *click* with the humor of the show, even rejecting to contemplate the mindset of the protagonist. Their loss, but eh...

Regarding something YosepRA said I think Cid is less Haruhi and more Okabe Rintarou, he lucks into the truth of the world with his chuunibyou delusions rather than making them a reality through his subconscious will. Cid uses an established "fairy tale" in the fantasy world as the basis for his delusion, Hououin Kyouma uses an established scientific organization as the basis for his delusion. They both just happen to be correct.

Crazy how people were hyping this up as the next big series and it's the exact same pedestrian garbage as every other series to get the "it's not like the other isekai!" treatment like Overlord. I genuinely almost fell asleep watching this.

Interesting, how do you consider this "pedestrian garbage"?

it could be good, but the end of the first episode and the beginning of the second confused me quite a bit it's moving at a fast pace but gives us seemingly irrelevant information at that fast pace it could end up that it's all relevant to the story but as of now I am just confused.

The manga adaptation is way better. Maybe my expectation were too high or maybe this work is just mid.

Understanding his mindset ??? No no no sorry I'm not crazy enough to imagine myself to have that stupid delusion. Such a shame this looks really good but they have to ruin it for me with that shit..... sigh sad

Thank you though for explaining
No. I meant just knowing he's an autistic, psychotic, chuuinbyu, not about trying to understand his actual thought process, he's mental.

Well whatever he is, to me he just ruin the show

I feel like we're talking about different things, I'm talking about the anime being comedic in a very similar way to the LN is, not that the anime can't make jokes through a visual medium, such as the shifting eyes, which is definitely not in the LN. As far as I can see there's no reason they can't incorporate more of the manga's comedic styling, which is more suitable for anime, it's not as if they're following the LN to a tee by any stretch, it's just a more fleshed out story for them to draw upon compared to the manga. I don't think making him an even more dramatic edge-lord would benefit the anime in the same way it benefits the manga, however.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

That's fair enough, I'm probably looking at it too much from the perspective of an LN reader, there's definitely issues from an anime-only perspective.

The story "starts" (next episode) when he's 15, it's just a quick speed run of him becoming stupid OP, and getting his harem before that.

I really wish there was something about how he got that slime sword/armor thing. Even a simple "I tripped over it one day" or some sort of acknowledgement that he had to attain it somehow...cuz right now it almost treats it as something he was borne with...which...couldn't possibly be true right?

Other than that....idk how I feel about this so far. I see where it's trying to be funny but it's easily forgettable. I saw someone else say that the manga and/or LN had more inner monologue -related comedy and I sort of wish there was more of that here but these [mostly] one-line deliveries I saw in this episode particularly idk....make it feel rushed? (like..."wait did he seriously just say....ok it just went into serious mode...and onto the next thing....nevermind...")

I felt ep1 was a prologue and now this felt like a prologue/tease ep. Are we seriously following this trend for the rest of the series?

The real start of the series is next episode, when he turns 15 and goes to the royal academy, the 2nd episode is a quick prologue.

Oh, and in the LN he murders thousands of slimes and experiments on them, knocking the whole ecosystem out of wack. lol

I Love that this is pure edginess. makes you cringe so much that goes full circle and is good. only complain is that the manga is like a self joke and is funny. here they tried to be more serious with the animation and kinda ruins the fun. the sister is beautiful but I wanted a poorly drawn mess annoying her brother.
the manga had 2 good things comedy and super edgy. here is only super edgy with great animation that this show really didn't need, it needed to be comedy oriented animation.
still a great watch for the season. but for now manga is better because is it makes you laught more

The manga went the gag-comedy route, the LN is all written serious/edgy, but it's the contrast of that with how much of an autistic Chhuni psycho Cid is that makes it so hilarious, not to mention all the absurd misunderstandings. The anime just hasn't given us enough background context, inner monologues, inner thoughts during conversations, etc. to truly appreciate the humor behind the premise/parody.

What a let down. Even without first episode showing how much better it would be without the isekai crap, it was just tedious. I guess it's supposed to be a comedy but there was absolutely nothing funny in the whole episode. Pacing was awful as well and a gaggle of waifus was pointless, since they don't even do as an eye candy. What's the point of this series?
